Chapter 44

Bill's POV

The other three, unfamiliar voices unnerved me. They sounded authoritative and intimidating. All I knew is that they weren't right.

Pine Tree looked at me confused. "Why would they bring company over all of a sudden?" He asked.

I shrugged. "I don't know. Who is it?"

Pine Tree cautiously snuck up to the door and cracked it open, peering out of the room. There was a moment where nothing happened, but then he suddenly went ridged and quickly but quietly closed the door. He whipped around, white faced. "The cops are here."

Shooting Star and I both gasped.

"What?!" She exclaimed, but then lowered her voice. "Why are they here?"

"They are probably trying to get rid of Bill." Pine Tree looked over at me and I saw real fear in his eyes. He didn't want me to go.

I ignored the feeling in chest when I realized that. "What am I going to do?" I couldn't just teleport out of here, Shooting Star couldn't know my secret.

"Hide!" Pine Tree whisper screamed.

"Where?" I hissed. "I can't just crawl underneath your bed."

"Go through my window, get on the roof and just stay there for a while." Pine Tree looked over his shoulder quickly. "I have no idea if there are cops in front, but I'm not taking any chances."

I nodded and backed far away from the door and over to his window. I gripped onto the bottom and slid it up, hopping into his backyard.

Before Pine Tree closed it he whispered, "be careful," and he drew it down, leaving it cracked open, if he had to call for me, and ushered me to leave.

I leaped up, grabbing onto the edge of the slanted roof and hoisted myself up and laid on my stomach, breathing hard.

In his bedroom, the door opened up, and Keith stepped into Pine Tree's room.

"Hey Dad," he said as casually as he could, "is something up?" He and Shooting Star were sitting on his bed, acting like they had been talking.

Keith closed the door behind him, his mood dark. "Where is Bill?" He said my name with much distaste.

Pine Tree shrugged. "I don't know, I think he went out or something." After all this time, he had gotten used to lying and was quite a perfectionist.

Keith narrowed his eyes at him and looked over to his twin. "Mabel?" He asked.

She shrugged as well. "Why would I know?"

Keith walked up to them, glaring furiously. "I know you are lying, especially you, Dipper."

Pine Tree returned his glare. "What makes you say that?"

"Where is he?!" He exclaimed. "We did not agree to house this beggar and we don't deserve to be threatened by him. He's being taken into custody until further notice."

"WHAT?!" Pine Tree leaped to his feet, eyes wide and frightful. "You can't do that! I'm fine with keeping him here and he only threatened you because you are ungrateful and cruel!"

Keith's eyes were like daggers. "I don't need my naive son shaming our family name! You really think I want the name 'Pines' to go extinct because you can't choose a female partner?!"

I knew it was all an act that Pine Tree and I were pulling, but tears welled up in Pine Tree's eyes. Pine Tree never knew this side of his father.

"How can you say that?!" He screamed.

Shooting Star sat on his bed, mortified and watched her dad in horror.

"Dipper, you are young and stupid - I understand that - and I'm trying to get you out of this mess. This Bill guy is no good for you."

I knew that Pine Tree could have given up the act and just agreed with him and that would be the beginning to solving his problems, but this wasn't about our lie now. It was about Pine Tree and Keith and what a monster his dad really was.

"N-no!" Pine Tree stammered. "He is good for me. We're good for each other."

Sitting on top of the roof, listening, I couldn't tell if he was acting or not. Part of me prayed he was acting for everyone's sake.

"You don't see it, but I do. We are taking this psycho away and maybe being a part will help you." Keith tried to grab his son's shoulders reassuringly, but Pine Tree shoved him away.

"What is wrong with you?! I didn't know that this was how looked at the world, Dad! This isn't just about my relationship with Bill anymore, ok?" He crossed his arms, holding back the tears so they didn't spill.

"You think I want to have to awkwardly go through life, knowing that my son is gay?" He growled. "You are better than that."

"Dad stop it!" Shooting Star cried out desperately. "Can't you see you're crushing him?!"

Keith looked mildly surprised, like he had forgotten Shooting Star was there. "Mabel, if you don't want to stay and listen then get out of here while I discuss these matters with your brother."

Pine Tree turned to her, whispered something calming things to her and made her leave. He couldn't bear to see Shooting Star distressed like that and Shooting Star couldn't bear seeing Pine Tree cry. I couldn't either anymore.

Once she left, Keith sighed, shaking his head. "Just tell us where he is, Dipper. I'll take care of the rest."

"You hate me. I know you do. You're too obsessed with your stupid reputation and 'family name' to give a damn about me anymore." His face was flushed with rage and his eyes were rimmed with tears.

"I don't hate you. I hate your choices. You are too young to understand." Keith scoffed. "Just tell me, kid. Bill is just a nuisance and you know it. You're not five, I expected better from you."

I could hear him coming apart at each of his father's words. That's it. I slid off the roof, dropping onto the ground. I then stormed up to his window and threw it upwards, stepping in. "I'm here, you bastard." I spat hatefully.

Keith rested his fiery gaze on me. He was more of a monster than I was. I under estimated how much humans could evolve over the years. "Come with me, we are going to-"

"NO!" Pine Tree screamed furiously. "What are you, stupid?! Don't you get it?! Bill's not coming with you." He was visibly shaking with fury.

Keith clenched his hands into fists. "This is for your good, Dipper."

"No, this is for your good!" He countered, eyes ringed red. He squeezed his eyes shut, tight.

I wanted to do something to help him. I needed to. I couldn't watch him suffer like this. Even if causing him pain was my intention in the first place - it was the reason I started this whole thing - I couldn't let it happen now.

"Bill doesn't let you make your own choices, Dipper. He's using you are something! He is always doing something to embarrass you or anything! This guy isn't right!"

I knew what he was talking about. How I had kissed Pine Tree the last couple times as an excuse for something, causing him to panic straight after. Keith noticed Pine Tree's reluctance and anger while the others didn't.

"You don't think I make my own choices?" Pine Tree whispered softly and he looked up at me slowly, obviously thinking about something carefully.

I tried to read his thoughts, but for the first time, I couldn't. His thoughts were hazed and blocked.

"You really think that?" His steady gaze turned angry and he side glanced at his dad.

Keith stood up straighter, a deep frown on his face.

Pine Tree shook his head and I finally heard a thought of his saying, "Well, here yah go."

I didn't have the time to react, only a split second confused looked crossed my face before Pine Tree pulled me down and kissed me on the lips. I felt my heart jump with absolute shock at his sudden passion that made stiffen. Never in a trillion years would I think that that he'd be leading the kiss. A kiss with me for that. It felt strange to have his mouth moving on mine instead of the other way around.

When he pulled away, he wasn't blushing like crazy, it was me who was doing the honors. I grew extremely flustered, my heart racing so fast that I thought it'd fly of the tracks.

"Is that enough for you? Now get out of my room. Me and my boyfriend need to talk. Tell the police you were being over paranoid." Pine Tree turned around, looking much older with his straight and angry face with me stammering in the corner.

Keith was red faced, but he whipped around and exited the room, slamming the door so hard behind him that I thought it was going to pop off of its hinges.

"P-Pine Tree, I-I didn't expect you to-to-to..." I trailed off, not able to get words to form and emerge from my mouth.

Pine Tree didn't roughly wipe his lips disrespectfully, he looked over at me with understanding eyes. "Hey, I like you, that's what friends do."

I swallowed, my face still the color fuchsia. "I-I just..." I didn't know if I could blush anymore than I could now. "It-it felt..." I snapped off before I said anything stupid in this daze.

"What?" Pine Tree swallowed nervously.

"N-never mind." Flustered, I pulled at my shirt collar. "Forget it..." I looked away before I could grow anymore embarrassed.

Pine Tree let out a long sigh and brought his hands to his face and muttered something to himself. "Let's pretend that didn't happen."

My gosh... How much I did want to forget that it did happen.

But my heart was still racing.

O-o i luv yall?? i d k
