Chapter 33

Bill's POV

I made sure to take Pine Tree all the way across the beach, far away from the bullies. I mean, it wasn't like I was protecting him or anything, I wanted to actually have a good time today.

"Bill..." Pine Tree said. He was sitting on the sand with his legs crossed and was tracing his fingers in the wet sand. He had been quiet for a while and I had just sat beside him, mute as well.

"Yeah..?"

"Thanks for doing that."

I clenched my jaw, feeling anger at the good deed I had committed. "Forget about it. Don't expect me to be kind to you forever, kid. You just got lucky..." I closed my eye, sighing.

"You punched him in the face, I'm not gonna forget that." He breathed softly.

I shot Pine Tree a glare. He was making it really hard to hate him, right now. "I only reacted how any other human would."

Pine Tree let out a huff of laughter and stopped playing in the sand and leaned back on the sand, stretching out. "Maybe you do actually like me and you're not acting."

I felt blush gather in my cheeks but I shook my head, feeling angry straight after that. "NO!" I screamed. "I do NOT!"

Pine Tree glanced at me, amused. "I'm just joking, jeez."

I exhaled hotly. "Fine." I crossed my arms. "I'd think so. I am here to torture you!"

Pine Tree rolled his eyes back. "Right... You don't seem to be torturing me right now..."

"Yes I am. I'm pretending to be your fake boyfriend." I spat, annoyed. He was starting to get on my nerves.

Pine Tree scoffed. "But no one else knows that. We're just sitting here chilling in the sun."

I glanced away. He was right. I wasn't really pulling off a convincing act... I thought to myself. What to do...? I had told myself to wait till tomorrow to start up, but how about proving myself that I wasn't going soft? Yeah. It wouldn't be too harsh of a punishment. "You really think so?"

Pine Tree had his eyes closed now and his arms behind his head. "Mhm."

I smirked. "Do I need to be more convincing?"

"Well, may-" he broke off and cracked open one eye to look at me. "What are you getting at?"

The smirk on my face grew.

His eye widened. "Bill. No. Let a man have his peace for once." He exhaled softly.

"You said it yourself..." I breathed and laid on my side right next to him.

Pine Tree looked over at me with half open eyes. "Please, just let me sleep. You don't need to constantly be lying to random strangers."

"Yes I do." I growled.

"But you haven't." Pine Tree chuckled.

I felt my face grow hot with anger. I looked over my shoulder to see a random women sitting on a beach towel reading book. "Hey, lady!" I called.

She looked up from her book, surprised.

I moved out of the way, so she could see Pine Tree as well. "Isn't my boyfriend adorable?!"

Pine Tree shot up, eyes wide. "What?! No-"

I turned my head around, reminding him he still had to fake with me.

Annoyance filled up his gaze.

The lady smiled awkwardly. "Uh...yes...?"

I pulled Pine Tree into a hug. "He's adorable to me!"

The lady smiled hastily and went back to her book.

Pine Tree struggled to get out of my hug. "Ok, ok, you proved your point. Sorry!"

I unwrapped my arms. "Thank you. That'll teach you to keep your mouth shut."

Pine Tree laid back down, but on his side, facing away from me.

"You seem upset." I said quietly.

Pine Tree didn't respond.

I then decided to put my ideas to work. I laid down like he did and scooted up so we were practically spooning, our bodies pressed together.

He nearly jumped out of his skin if it weren't for me holding him down. "Dude." He hissed, embarrassed. "D-don't do this."

"You look upset." I repeated into his ear and he cringed.

"Well, I am now." He growled back.

I wrapped my arms around him. "Aww, how pathetic."

"Bill, not now, please." He said with visible restraint.

"I hope you still remember that I'm the all powerful demon, here, not you." I muttered and he sighed.

"But do your weird displays of affection have to be public?" He asked through clenched teeth.

"Well, duh, or else they wouldn't be nearly as effective." I chuckled.

"This is PDA." He murmured.

"I'm not kissing you, idiot." I retorted.

Pine Tree went silent at that.

I crawled over him so I could see his face, which was full of anger. "But I could start if that's what-"

"N-no!" He scooted back and tried to stand up, but I snatched his wrist and pulled him back down.

"See? I'm still the one with the upper hand, Pine Tree."

"Bill, your not funny. You're disgusting." He stated.

"I know how to get under your skin. That's all. The thing that gets you squirming just happened to be the worst possible one." I sat up and sat crossed legged, facing him. "You think I like pretending to be with you? Pft, yeah right. I hate it, but I can tolerate it. It's what I had to do."

Pine Tree cocked his head to the side. "Then why not just stop if you hate it?"

I swallowed and clenched my hands into fists, grabbing a hand full of sand in the process. "Because I can't, not yet."

He sighed. "You're not giving up?"

I shook my head stubbornly. "Nope. Never. I will take this act as far as it has to go until I'm done."

Pine Tree grimaced. "Meaning?"

I nodded like it was nothing. "You know what I mean."

Pine Tree looked sick. "What the hell, I don't think so. You can find another toy to play with."

I smirked and decided to not tell him I was joking. It'd most likely never get that far. "But we still have to convince other's: strangers. We need witnesses as back up."

"Oh God." He rolled his eyes.

"It's true! Like that lady, she's a witness to back up our little lie." I explained.

"Are you sure dying isn't an easier option." He asked.

I flashed back to me murdering him, blasting a laser straight through his midsection. I never thought I'd find myself pretending the be his boyfriend to win his ex's heart. It was somewhat strange when you really thought of it and didn't make sense. But I had everything mapped out so if nothing interfered, I was home free.

"Yes," I said sternly, "I am sure dying isn't easier." I looked up at him, a small bout of silence passed over us. "I remember killing you quite vividly."

A flash of fear shot across his eyes and he tore his gaze away from mine. "And...?"

"Well, there was a lot of blood and it was pretty gruesome." I swallowed and was now staring blankly into space. "I shot you right here." I lifted my hand and poked my finger into his stomach.

Pine Tree looked down and then up at me. "Did you regret it?"

I drew my hand away, not looking directly at him, but somewhat through him. "I don't know. I did kill you on purpose."

Pine Tree swallowed anxiously. "O-oh."

I shrugged. "Oh well, I guess."

Pine Tree held his arms. "Do you kill people often?" He asked almost shyly.

I blinked, my gaze finally focusing back on him. "Only if I have to."

Pine Tree exhaled and put his face in his hands and went quiet.

"What is it?"

He didn't lift up his head. "You could kill me, everyone, right now if you wanted..."

"Your point is?" I asked confused.

"That's terrifying."

I inhaled sharply, biting my bottom lip. No, you're not going to start feeling regret. You're not giving up so don't even think about it. I tried my best to harden up my feelings, but I felt sympathy towards him. Dammit. Tomorrow... Tomorrow... I exhaled after reassuring myself. "I'm...sorry."

He shook his head and brought his face back up. "I'm being forced to be your little slave. Why not just kill me and get me out of the way?"

I flicked my eyes away. "I can't. You don't understand." I crossed my arms, starting to get agitated. "I'd only do it if I had to."

"Can we go back?" Pine Tree whispered.

"Not yet. I don't want to yet." I shook my head, trying to bat the sympathetic human feelings that were in my head. Why was he making it so hard to stay pissed off at him? Was he doing it on purpose...?
