The Meeting
"Thank you father you won't regret giving me the opportunity."
"Please my son do not forget to be careful. Your coronation is set to be in two months so you must be back in one. Please don't make me have to send Alexander to come get you."
"I won't father. Trust me. The humans will love us."
The king slowly nodded his head and handed his eldest son a sack. "This should provide the essentials for your journey my child."
He held onto the pack with all his might.
"Your mother would be so proud of you." He handed his son a small sack full of pearls.
He took one out of the sack and crushed it. Suddenly he felt the world shift all around him. He felt himself being pulled out of the water. The rush was incredible, like he was swimming a million miles a second yet someone was swimming for him and he wasn't the one actually doing it.
He felt the sky. He didn't feel water, he was in the air almost like a dolphin but he felt like he was really flying. It was too dark to see anything but as he landed back in the water he knew he had made a loud noise, one that was sure to scare anyone who might be near.
He knew he was about to lose his fins for a whole month so he had to swim with strength to get to land in time before he completely became human. He held his sack tightly as he swam, the water felt like it was cutting into his skin. He saw the edge of the continental shelf and saw some debris floating around.
"See this is why they need to learn." He said to himself. The humans didn't understand what it was like having other people constantly dirty their home. He made his way to the debris and saw- it was a human. He couldn't see the human very well in the darkness but he could tell she was in danger. He swam to her and pulled her to him and pulled her to the beach.
He felt for her pulse and found it was extremely weak. He leaned down and pressed his lips to her.

Mary Ann felt soft lips on hers, she slowly realized she actually felt genuine life being breathed into her lungs. She slowly opened her eyes and started coughing. Unfortunately it wasn't a pretty cough and she started to throw up ocean water, the man that was with her rubbed and softly patted her back as she threw up anything and everything she'd ever eaten.
"It's okay girl you're alright now." The man had a strange accent that she'd never heard before. It reminded her of someone who was trying to fake an Australian accent. She looked back over her shoulder at the man she'd never met before. His hair was long, at least the length of her arm or maybe even his. His eyes were beautiful blue that looked just like the ocean. His hair was a beautiful shade of blonde, dirty but not too dark.
The life that he felt be breathed into her she suddenly lost. He was absolutely beautiful.
"You're okay." He gently cupped her face and stroked her cheek with his thumb, her head relaxing into her hand.
"Do you need anymore help?"
It clicked.
"My mother!" She got up and nearly fell back into the sand. Being in a panic and trying to run back into the ocean, the strange man watched her.
"Is this what you're looking for?" He asked holding something in his hand.
Mary Ann grabbed for the urn and opened it, terrified of what she was going to see. The urn looked unopened and untouched. Everything looked as is should.
"But- how-"
"You might've left it on the beach while you were swimming." She nodded even though she knew that wasn't what happened.
"I'm Mary Ann." She held out her hand. This man made her weak in all the best ways. He caused a pit in her stomach that she had never felt before.
"Call me Douglas."
She giggled at his name. "I've never actually heard someone be named that before. Are you free for dinner sir Douglas? I think I should repay you, I'm sure you saved my life."
Meanwhile under the ocean.
"Father, I fear Terrence might try to interfere with Douglas's mission. I've found books and books and books in his room filled with the most malicious things. Father it looks like he intends to become human too."
"Alexander my son your brother has not become human. Despite my efforts Douglas wants the humans to know about merpeople. I believe if they know they'll try to kill us for our scales or control us, but your brother thinks he can get through to them."
Alexander let out a loud sigh. He was frustrated because he always had known Terrence was a bad person, ever since they were children Terrence never acted like him or Douglas. He didn't think- no- he knew Terrence was going to do something to sabotage his brother's coronation. His brother, not their brother.
Alexander went to Terrence's private library. He knew Terrence wasn't going to be back for another few hours and he wanted to read around some more.

Alexander slammed each book shut. They were filled with utter nonsense, like they were coded. He picked up one more and flipped it to a random page.

Alexander if you look at one more page I will have to kill you.
Alexander felt a shiver run down his spine. 'How does he know?' Alexander always tried to cover his tracks.
"Get out. " He looked up and saw Terrence's dark painful eyes. His demon eyes.
"Terrence it isn't what it looks like."
"GET OUT!"
Alexander swam out, still with book in hand, and locked himself in his chambers.
Terrence looked around at what was supposed to be his safe place, feeling haunted, scared, and just like always he felt alone.

My hope with the rewrite is that the chapters will be longer I did want it to be longer than this but after several hours I realized I thought this might be a good place to end
