1. The beginning of trouble.
Perspective of Aaliyah.
I hit the steering wheel once again. I was pissed off. For a good thirty minutes I was standing in a traffic jam, trying to get to Queens. I was hoping that May won't be angry... I knew how much she cares about every time we spent together. I couldn't afford to have many of them because of my work.
Suddenly the music on the radio was drowned out by my phone's bell. I picked up immediately, not looking at who was calling.
''Yes, I'm listening?'' I asked, putting the device to my ear.
''Where are you?!'' I heard my sister's voice. ''We're waiting half an hour for you!''
''It's nice to hear you too...'' I murmured. ''I'm in traffic, but I see that something has finally moved, so I'm finishing. I'll call you when I'll be there. Bye.'' I quickly hung up, because angry May is the worst thing in the world...
Fifteen minutes later there was no sign after the traffic jam, so I arrived at my sister's apartment without any problem. I parked under the building, took my purse and pressed the closing button on the remote to my beloved Maserati (photo of the car in the media). I checked several times whether it was definitely closed, and then I went into the building and to the right floor. I knocked on the door a few times, which was opened quite quickly.
''Hi, finally! Come in.'' May said, letting me into the apartment. She looked great for her age, as usual. Her long dark brown hair cascaded down her shoulders, perfectly fitting her character. Exuberant, busy, and at the same time incredibly entertaining. Beer colored, almond eyes gave me a glimpse, and the snow-white smile made up for the hardships I had before I got here. Finally at home!
After entering the living room, it was impossible not to feel the wonderful smell from the kitchen, so my legs took me there myself. I sat on the counter top, watching as May put food on the plates.
''Where is Peter?'' I asked.
''He's locked in the room.'' she replied without interrupting the previous action.
"Oh, I'd better knock before I come in..."
The woman shook her head, laughing.
As I said, I did. I knocked - Peter opened the door almost immediately. He was probably impatiently waiting for my arrival.
''Hey, Aunt!'' He greeted me with an embrace.
''Hey, kiddo! How was at school?''
''Nothing interesting.'' He shrugged and sat at the table, where plates filled with food were already waiting for us.
''You must have been crazy about this amount... Where can I put it!?'' I said, looking fearfully at the plate.
''Stop talking, just eat. You eat only fast food at home. And don't deny it! I saw how many cartons after pizza and Chinese food you have in your flat...''
"Hey, take a look at this..." Peter interrupted us, pointing to the television.
May made messages louder - that spoke of an assassination in which eighty people were killed. Almost at the same moment, I received a message from my boss - Fury.
Nick Fury: Hello, Aaliyah. Forgive me for bothering you despite your holiday, but you've probably already seen on TV what's going on... I need you here for a special job. I don't accept a refusal!
I sighed. I've rarely been here recently, with my family, my only family... I looked at my sister, and she already knew I had to go. She always could read from me like from an open book, but I could also - and I saw how disappointed she was. I promised her that I will stay for at least three days...
I looked down at the plate and carried it into the kitchen. Peter probably sensed the tense atmosphere, because he apologized us and left the table. As soon as the dark-haired boy disappeared from our view, May came up to me.
''Really? I understand that work is important to you, but more important than your family?'' she said with a sad voice that I hated so much. I remembered that after Ben's death, for a long time, she used only that tone, croaky from crying. ''What's the job which needs so much from you...?''
I couldn't tell her that I was an agent... She would kill me for that. It was easier to tell her that I was a journalist.
''May... You know, this job isn't easy, and you saw that something is happening, so they need me to write a good article about it...''
She interrupted me:
''You're not the only one journalist!''
''But I'm the best, so they need me... I'm sorry, really.'' I looked into her eyes. ''When I do what is right for me, I will come as soon as possible, I promise.'' I hugged her. ''Bye, May! Bye, kiddo!'' I shouted.
''Bye, Auntie!'' answered Peter, slightly drowned out by the door.
I left the building and got into the car. After fifteen minutes I arrived at the place where I was going to wait for a helicopter, which I was supposed to get to Helicarrier. I wanted to do it quickly and just go back and spend the weekend with my family as soon as possible. When transport arrived for me, the flight seemed to have no end.
The landing was the worst... Honestly, like the whole flight. I hated flying.
I got out of the helicopter and went to the bow of the ship, where my boss used to be. I passed laboratories and other offices. There was a terrible chaos. It's kind of a norm, but not today... Everybody was running somewhere, everyone seemed more upset than usual. I opened the control room door and I saw people who were foreign to me. One of them was a tall, well-built man with long blond hair. He had beautiful blue eyes, which despite great distance I saw perfectly. In addition, there was facial hair that suited him perfectly. He wore an unusual clothing, it was something like the armor to which the red cape was attached. Well, he was handsome. Very. Even very, very handsome. I looked at another person. This one was quite skinny and had short, brown hair. He wore a purple shirt and looked at those gathered anxiously. I have already associated other people, namely Steve Rogers, Tony Stark and... Natasha Romanoff. I hated her, because she was working for Hydra. Who knows, she can still work with them... Anyone who knows her, knows perfectly well that she is characterized by being a double agent.
''I came, boss.'' I finally said.
"Oh, finally... Before I tell you what to do, let me introduce you Bruce Banner.'' He pointed to a man in a purple shirt, who smiled to me.
"And I'm Thor..." Handsome blond man in a cape interrupted him. ''Thor Odinson, the rightful king of Asgard.'' he greeted me, placing a kiss on the top of my hand. I looked at him embarrassed. What the hell is Asgard...?
''Nice to meet you...'' I said. ''But I didn't give up my plans for strangers, so... Boss, can you tell me what I'm doing here?''
"Excuse me, lady, but you're here for the same reason as all of us... Because of my brother..." said Thor, correcting the hammer which I had just noticed.
''Is he the perpetrator of the yesterday's event?''
''Yes, that's him.'' Fury added. ''And it's your job to look after him. We cannot risk his escaping.''
''Excuse me, what? I left my family to take care of some random guy?!'' I got annoyed.
"You will keep an eye on him until we find Clint, over whom he has taken control!'' The Widow growled.
I took a deep breath.
''Where is he?''
I didn't have to ask twice. Natasha took me to his cell. When we entered, a tall man in a green and black outfit with golden accessories stood proudly in the middle of it, as if it were at least a throne room, not a cell. I came closer, but without Natasha - she came back upstairs to help find our friend.
''You don't like her.'' He stated in a low voice.
I ignored him, leaned against the railing and started to play with the phone.
''You can't ignore me!'' He raised his voice.
''And you can't kill innocent people.'' I replied without looking at him. I was too busy with looking for Thor on Facebook.
''They were random victims.'' He said it as if human life means nothing. It hurt me, so I finally looked at him. His hair was black, his eyes were green and blue, and his features were sharp. He was also handsome. But he was also a psychopath. With a damn nice smile. But still a psychopath.
''This is going to be a long day...''
