Darry’s POV

“No way man, I just don’t get it, It just doesn’t happen.” Drew said he was trying to wrap his head around how I got a date with the prettiest girl in school. “Well it does because it is, I tell ya man I think she’s the one.” I looked up at the sky and took a drag off my cigarette. “Yeah well calm down hotshot because you haven’t even been on a date yet.” He reminded me cocking an eyebrow.  “I know man but there is just this- there is just something about her.” “Yeah whatever you say, I’m happy with my woman.” He said as he watched his “woman” come towards him from across the street. Susan was pretty she had dull red hair, grey eyes and a pale complexion with high cheekbones.  Whereas Drew had brown hair, blue/grey eyes, a straight pointy nose and pale skin. They were madly in love those two and as I walked away from them because they were really only interested with each other, I thought about my date tonight. I was planning on taking her out for dinner and then ice-skating, I thought she would like it, shoot I hoped she did otherwise I’m screwed. I went home and jumped in the shower, I got out and put on some clean blue jeans and a black button down with my fancy shoes. I combed my hair back which was full of grease then I grabbed my keys and drove to her house where she was waiting at the front door ready for me. She looked gorgeous, her blonde hair falling over her shoulders, and she was wearing this red dress with white little polka dots and I could have just looked at her all night. I went to get out of the car to hold the door open for her but she had already ran and gotten in, “So where are we going?” she asked looking at me unimpressed. “Out for dinner.” I simply said I smiled and then drove off to our destination. “Yes but where?” she smiled and then rolled her head to look at me. “You’ll find out soon enough.” I smiled at her and she smiled back but then went back to looking out the window. I pulled into the car park of the diner and walked around to her side of the car, I opened the door and she stepped out. We got a few looks when we walked in the diner and I could tell she was a little uncomfortable so I quickly took her to the booth furthest away from everyone. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.” I shyly stated. “Oh no you didn’t, it’s just people judge and I don’t like it when they do because it’s mean.” Amelia grabbed my hands, which I had perched on top of the table. I smiled and quickly changed the subject to get off of this awkward one, I handed her a menu and asked what she would like. We both made up our minds pretty quick and I went up to order and sat back down with Amelia. She had made a crane out of a napkin while I was gone, I just grinned at it and then asked “Can you teach me?” picking it up and admiring it. “Sure I can.” She picked two napkins and gave me one. Amelia tried explaining how to fold the piece of paper into a crane but I just made into a huge mess and we both laughed at my failure. I was glad when dinner came out though because then I could give up before I could fail anymore. We both finished our meal pretty quickly so I asked if she would like some chocolate cake, “Yes please!! I love chocolate cake, it’s my favourite.” She said excitedly and I knew then this is the girl for me. I brought back some chocolate cake and we both gobbled it down, we finished our cokes that came with our meal and then got back in the car. “Where to now?” she asked stretching out her arms. “It’s a secret.” I replied “oh come on?” she complained but I just laughed and shook my head. We arrived at the skating rink and a smile spread across her face, “I love ice-skating, I used to go all the time as a kid.” I walked in and gave the guy 50 cents and he gave us our skates.  When we were putting them on I turned to Amelia and asked “So why don’t you skate anymore?” “Well I just don’t have time my only free time is Sunday afternoon’s and Friday and Saturday nights. The rest of the time I am occupied with dance, tennis and lady lessons, tutoring, school and friends.” “Lady Lessons?” I laughed. “It’s not as weird as it sounds, it is lessons on how to be a lady and how to be a good wife and mother personally I hate them but mother makes me take them.” She sighed and rested her head on her hands. “Well let me take your mind of that and take you skating.” I held out my arm for her to hold and we walked to the rink.

“ARGH!!! DARRY!!! HELP!!!” I heard Amelia scream out. I spun around so fast my stomach churned but I didn’t pay much attention to it because I saw Amelia collapsed on the ground clutching her ankle. I skated over to her and asked her what’s wrong even though I had a pretty good idea it was her ankle. She just grunted and said “my ankle” through gritted teeth. I scooped her up in my arms and carried her to the first aid area; I held her hand while the guy put ice over her ankle. “Well this date will always be memorable.” I joked. “Nice joke.” She sarcastically said and then laughed a little. “Well I am right thought aren’t I?” trying to be a smartass. “Yes, you’re right.” She said rolling her eyes but smiling. Once her ankle was feeling better I took her over to the cafeteria area and brought some chocolate ice-cream.  We ate it and enjoyed each other’s company just talking and she told me all about her life. “So tell me about you!” “Ah not much to tell really, I live alone in my parents’ house and I have a group of friends that are like brothers to me. When I leave school I plan to be a mechanic when I leave school and a good one.” “Where are your parents?” she asked. “They died in a car accident last year.” “I am so sorry.” She looked into my eyes and turned her eyebrows up so she looked sad. “Oh don’t be it’s fine.” I gave her a reassuring smile and then asked how her ankle was and she said it was a bit sore but fine. It was getting late and she promised her parents she would be home by 10 and it was already 9:35, “I had better get you home I don’t want your parents hating me already.” I said jokingly and I helped her to the car because of her ankle.  We got to her house and I walked her to the door. “Thanks I have had a really great time.” She said happily “me too maybe we can go out again soon?” I asked “I’d like that, Sunday night?” she said. “Woah, what makes you think I want to see you again that soon?” I joked. “Get over yourself” she laughed and smacked my arm. Then we just stared into each other’s eyes and I kissed her, it was amazing. She pulled back and said my daddy is probably waiting for me so I let her go and said I will pick you up on Sunday night and walked to the car. I spent the rest of the night just replaying the date in my mind over and over again.
