New life🌬️
It had been six years since Mayloorna finished high school. Her father suggested she had a change of identity so wouldn't be easy to be recognized.
And she currently goes by the name 'Mrs. Iris Banks' who studied 'crime and forensics' in college and is currently a prosecutor in the United Kingdom.
"Ughhh..."
She groaned at the sound of her alarm. "Why does mornings have to come by quickly" she sighed as she got dressed for work.
Upon reaching her office, she noticed a large crowd was there as she struggled to get inside due to the crowded area.
"What's going on? Why are there people outside?"
"Mr. Davis, the guy who was accused of killing his father, committed suicide to escape the trial and humiliation after making a confession video" Simon, a colleague of her's replied and at this she smiled slightly.
The day before, she had questioned Mr. Davis and threatened to expose his other shady businesses for indeed he was a despicable man. Although she didn't expect him to commit suicide.
"Okay" briefly saying as she walked into her office.
"Morning boss" her apprentice, Smith called out to her as she frowned at him.
"Morning Smith. Finished with all the paper works I gave you?"
"Yes boss and I found something too..." He said as he brought out a piece of paper and handed it to her.
When she saw it she looked pale. It was her original nationality certificate with her name on it.
"It says Mayloorna Andrew Hernandez, I looked it up and it says she died six years ago but the paper was confirmed to have been given 4years ago however, was printed illegally."
Then he turned up to her "and I don't get why you have the paper..."
Looking up at her, he realised the sudden change of her expression.
"No way! You're Mayloorna?" He gasped in shocked as she sighed in affirmation.
"But smith..."
"I know, I won't tell anyone, trust me" he assured her.
How did my papers get to him?
"Mrs. Iris, we're to spectate the trial of the lady who was accused of killing her husband" Smith said as she nodded.
******************
"I didn't do it" the lady cried. "Yes we weren't in good terms and I had threatened to kill him but I swear I didn't kill him!" She yelled.
"Your honor, as at the time her husband was killed, it was only her, some maids and their adopted son at home. Her son at the moment was in his room asleep and wasn't caught on camera stepping out of his room." Her adopted son's lawyer explained.
"Don't couples have misunderstandings?!" She yelled. "Lee young, tell them... Tell them I didn't kill your father huh? Tell them!" She begged and cried as a little smirk plastered on his face.
"This woman, who happens to be my mother killed her husband" he cried. "Despite the hated she had for him, he loved her" he fought back tears.
"He didn't deserve that.."
And with that, she was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. "I didn't do it! I'm being framed" she pleaded as she was taken away.
From a distance, a young man watched the scence in sadness. He shook his head in bewilderment and annoyance.
And this happened to catch Iris attention as she walked up to him "it's not fair! My sister did nothing!" He hissed and she decided to take a step back.
She wasn't the type that engaged in other people's problems, she cared less about situations like these, especially family ones.
"Ma'am it's time to go" a security informed her and she proceeded to move.
*******************
When she got to her office, she could hear commotions just from outside her office and decided to check what it was about.
"At least investigate who killed my friend!" The voice cried. "You couldn't do anything for my sister but please help me out here" he became sobber and when Iris got close, she realised it was the same man she had seen earlier.
"Sir we understand you but at the moment we're really busy, please try to understand" a prosecutor lied and at this Iris became furious.
"Busy?! The chief said we shouldn't investigate this matter am I right?" She asked when she knew what was going on and her colleagues silence was an affirmation.
Taking a deep breath she asked the sulking man to come into her office.
"What's your complaint?" She asked.
"A friend of mine got into a hit and run accident yesterday, I keep coming here but I'm told the same thing" he cried.
"My sister got accused of murdering her husband today which was just some lies then my business was brought down, they said it was a shady deal but I didn't do anything... And now people see me as a laughingstock..." He furrowed his brows.
"They're all fucked up!" He cursed.
At this, Iris eyes widened. The man had gone through a lot and all went in vain.
"Don't worry, I'll help you" she smiled and reassured him.
"Really?" He beamed.
"Yes, just write your name down and that of your friend's with your number. I'll contact you for more questions another day" she informed and he jotted down his name on a piece of paper and then handed it over to her.
Mr. Jonah? She swore she had heard that name before but where?
Then she looked down at the friend's name 'Camille'
She was taken aback. These were her high school mates while she stayed at New York.
She felt a bit of guilt for not telling them what had happened before she left New York abruptly.
How they must have felt for her sudden attitude and movement must have cost them was all she could think of. But now one of them was dead!
She looked at the paper with sadness as a tear rolled down her cheeks.
"Camille is d...dead?" She asked without realizing what she said.
"Yes, do you know her?" Jonah asked confused.
"Oh err...well..." She stammered as she realised she wasn't Mayloorna and he couldn't recognized her.
"You wrote her name didn't you?" She tried to cover up.
"Well... I'll call you when I'm ready, right now I'm really busy" she changed the topic as she discharged her client.
