Chapter 43
I told my dad I was going out to the forest just to play around so he wouldn't come searching for me.
Bill was actually better than I expected. Well, as good as a dream demon can get.
We walked in the forest, silently. Bill said he'd help me with the Dipper situation, but not yet.
I brushed my hands along the bark of trees I walked past. Bill was quiet as he floated behind me. Over all, it was awkward after our little talk.
Bill sighed. "You're still mad aren't you? Even though you said it was good?"
I cringed. "Um...yah, but not as much as before." I sighed.
Bill sighed too. "Oh."
I kicked a pebble. "It's just...you've got to learn to handle stuff in a different way, I mean, you don't do stuff right." I informed him.'
"Sorry, I didn't know demons were supposed to be perfect." Bill said slightly annoyed.
More silence.
Buzz. Buzz.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket when I felt it vibrating. I looked on the screen.
Dipper.
I swallowed nervously and I could feel Bill's gaze over my shoulder. I turned to him. "Uh, maybe you should give me some privacy." I said carefully.
Bill started to turn red, but he cooled himself down. "Fine." He turned away and floated a little ways off.
I clicked the answer button and put it up to my ear. "Hello?"
"Eleanor...I-I need to ask you a few questions." Dipper's voice came out.
I groaned. "Dipper. Drop it. It's not working out...every time you and I talk it leads to more trouble." I said exasperated.
I heard two voices, muffled, speaking to each other on the phone.
Dipper came back. "No, Eleanor, why did you pair up with Bill?" He asked.
I sighed again. "Look, I didn't, he found me...can we drop that subject, please?"
Silence came from the phone.
"Eleanor." It was Mabel. "You...you made me very upset...I tried to be friends with you, but you always mess everything up."
I licked my dry lips. "I know, and I'm sorry...some things just don't work out."
Mabel paused for a second. "So, you don't wanna try to be friends again?"
"No, I do want to be friends just..." I trailed off.
Mabel sniffed. "I see."
Dipper got the phone back. "Eleanor, I'm just curious how all of this happened!"
I gritted my teeth. "It doesn't matter Dipper." I said curtly. "I-I just want to get back-" I broke off as I felt Bill staring at me. Back with you...
Dipper grew confused. "Back, get back where? With what?" He paused. "Hello? Eleanor?"
I put my mouth closer to the phone. "Back together...with you."
Dipper went silent for a little bit. "Oh, but Eleanor, I don't know if I can even trust you anymore." His voice was reluctant.
"No...please Dipper, Bill did it on purpose, because-" I broke off again. I felt Bill staring. "I-I can't talk now, I'm sorry, maybe later. Bye."
"No! Elea-"
Beep.
I hung up.
Bill floated over to me.
"Bill...stop."
Bill drew away from me with a snarky look on his face.
I stuffed my phone in my pocket angrily. "I guess we'll have to talk later..."
