Chapter 16

During my sleep, I was restless. My dreams were filled with floating cities, strange books, Stan, Bill, the twins and many other strange things. I could remember a very small fragment from my dream. Everything was floating and in torment. I could hear Stan in the background, saying "Don't!!!" I didn't understand these dreams. I knew to much. I was afraid, I was scared of my self and my knowledge. Early in the morning, I got up and went to eat breakfast.

My dad came out, carrying an axe.

"Uh, dad?" I started.

"It's ok sweety, I'm gonna chop some wood later." He assured me.

I took a bite of my cereal. "Mhm." I mumbled. Suddenly, I jolted. "Page 32: reference to portal, activate." I said hypnotized. I shook and was back to normal.

My dad stared at me precariously. "Um, what? Are you ok?" He asked as he held the milk.

I looked around fearfully. What was that about?! "Oh, nothing, just Eleanor being...Eleanor." I said quickly.

My dad nodded, unconvinced.

I looked down at my cereal, for some reason it wasn't so appetizing now. "I'm done, so I'm gonna go." I rinsed out my bowl, got dressed, and ran out. As soon as I was alone in the forest I called out. "Bill! Where are you?! Bill?!" And just like that he appeared.

"Oh, well look who's summoning who." He said snootily.

"Ha ha ha." I said sarcastically. "Can you explain random information outbursts?!" I questioned him paranoid.

Bill laughed. "Whoops, might have over done your information obtaining." He said with fake pity. "The reason this is happening is, because most humans are so stupid they barley use any of there brain. Well, the information I've given you has taken up all space in your brain and has over ridden it. Since it can't contain it, it'll dispose of it in the only way it can think of. Spitting it out. Saying it." Bill explained to me.

I stumbled onto a stump. "Oh my gosh. So, I'll be randomly saying information...forever?!" Panic grew into my limbs.

Bill shrugged. "Sure."

"Take it back!" I begged.

Bill laughed again. "I can control you, remember. Don't try to control me."

I shrunk away.

"Well, it was great seeing you and getting to know that bit of info. So, bye!" Bill snapped his fingers and just like always, I awoke in the present.

I grabbed my hair and pulled on it with stress. "I...I can't beat this. Maybe." I got up. "Well, time to get nowhere with Dipper and Mabel." I told myself, not encouraged. I walked slowly over to the Mystery Shack in a dark haze. So I entered the clearing and I went and waited on the side of the shack. I was wondering what to say. Bill ruined everything for me yesterday.

"Eleanor!" Shrieked and excited voice.

I raised my head to see Mabel sprinting over to me. I smiled a little bit. At least it wasn't Dipper, I was scared he would turn me down like yesterday.

Mabel ran up to my side. "What you doing on this side of the Mystery Shack?"

"I...I was just..." I broke off in sadness. "Um, I can't tell you without something happening."

Mabel's eyes darted around me. "Oh." She looked down, obviously out of ideas to comfort me. "Hey, Dipper is up in his room, wanna go see him?" She asked hopefully.

"I don't know. Yesterday...it didn't go so well..." I froze.

"Yesterday? You were here yesterday?"

I swallowed as I recalled the my job. How I still had to finish it. "Uh..."

"Why didn't you come see us?" She continued to question me.

"I-I was busy." I stammered.

"Busy? Busy doing what?" She asked. "You don't work here."

I trembled. "U-uh." I jolted suddenly. "Not so far, it'll activate, completing, join the wheel represented on...journal." I shuddered and kneeled over.

Mabel took a couple steps back. "W-what?"

I raised my head up, fearful of what she would think.

"What was all...that about?" She seemed very concerned.

"I-I can't tell y-you, it's...it's-" I couldn't explain it. Images of the portal flashed in my mind. "It's...nothing."

Mabel seemed untrusting of me at the moment. "Let's...go see Dipper now." She said cautiously.

I followed her and tried to act normal. Mabel opened the door for me and when I entered I stumbled to a halt.

Stan sat in his chair, staring at me.

Swear dripped down my face.

Stan sat up straight. "What you doing here again kid?" He asked, never taking his eyes off me.

I blinked. "I'm going to see D-Dipper." I said while gesturing towards the stairs.

Stan narrowed his eyes. "Okay." He said.

I walked slowly as Stan watched me climb the stairs.

Mabel was behind me, completely clueless. "What's wrong with you and Stan?" She whispered.

"I don't know." I said calmly. I walked into the attic and opened the door .

Dipper sat on his bed. "Hm, ok," he was saying. ", control...dreams..."

I looked on his bed and saw, that book! I took a step forward. "Dipper?"

He jumped and threw the book behind him. "W-what? Oh h-hi." He stuttered.

"What are you doing?" I asked as I stepped in carefully.

"Uh, just thinking of a way for...you." I informed me.

"Me?"

"Yah, your problem."

I let out a puff of breath. "Ok then." I walked over and sat on his small bed.

"So," he went on. ", I haven't had much luck trying to help you, there's really no reason for you to be here 'cause I can't help you at the moment."

"No, I'm just here to hang out." I reassured him.

Dipper let out a long sigh. "Ok, good."

Mabel jumped onto his bed to, making us bounce up. "Dude! Bro, something really weird happened to Eleanor." She said excitedly.

I waved my hands at her and signed "No."

She ignored me. "Before we came in she said the weirdest thing. It didn't make any sense!"

I continued to make the "No." sign.

She leaned into Dipper and whispered. "It was like she was possessed."

I stop up. "Hey! I wasn't possessed!" I shouted angrily.

Dipper glanced at me. "Then what happened?"

My teeth chattered nervously. I could feel my hands shaking.
"Does it matter?" I asked.

"Well it does to me, I don't want you lying to me."

I met his eyes bewildered. "You don't want me to lie?! What about you?!"

Dipper's expression showed guilt. "W-well, yes, I do have my secrets, but for there reasons. You don't have a reason for such a simple happening." He explained.

My stomach churned. " I do have my reason."

"Like what?"

"I don't need to tell you!" I said squeamishly.

"Then you don't need to know mine either." Dipper said tersely.

"Guys, guys. Please stop fighting! You are good friends." Mabel intervened.

I calmed myself down. "Sorry." I said lowering my voice.

Dipper relaxed. "Sorry."

Mabel sat down sadly on the floor. "I thought this would work out...but, you guys fight more than me and Dipper do...I guess-" she broke off.

I glanced at her to see her eyes glazed with sadness.

"I guess it's over. No more trying." Mabel's voice cracked.

I recalled her saying how she was the world's greatest match maker. Must have broke her heart to see her best 'creation' fail so miserably. I crawled out of his bed and on to the floor with her. "Hey, it'll work out. We need time." I tried my best to make her feel better.

Mabel met my eyes. "That's just it! Dipper said that every time, but every time there was another chance it got ruined." She looked at the ground again.

Dipper went down beside his sister. "Hey, we can try to be friends. For your sake." Dipper raised his head up and stared at me, as if he was awaiting my approval.

"Yah, I will try."

Mabel smiled brightly and pulled us into a group hug. "DELEANORE!!!!" She screamed happily.

Dipper and I both pulled off and told her to be quiet.

Mabel laughed awkwardly. "Ha, sorry 'bout that."

I smiled, happy Mabel was happy. I liked Dipper, but with this heavy secret weighing down my life...it would be a whole lot harder to get along with my new duties making me step out of line.
