Chapter 26
Dipper's POV
No. My image to Eleanor, to myself, was ruined. It's was completely destroyed. What. Had. I. Done? I fumbled with the pocket knife and dropped it onto the ground.
"Eleanor...please...I'm sorry. If Bill does tell you, I'm sorry that I almost let you down completely." I closed my eyes and made myself pick up the knife and put it in my pocket.
I told myself to never speak of it again. I wished I had the walkie-talkie so I could tell Eleanor I was fine. But I didn't. Maybe I should go do a sneak check. Bill knew I couldn't do anything to free her. Maybe I could just comfort her and apologize for trying to- no.
I wasn't going to say it.
I headed my way back to the orb.
I crossed the barren fields where I had found the giant crack and Mabel's foot prints and blood. I climbed back up the mountain- which was truly torturous- and stood back on the railings. Dejá vu... I took a deep breath.
"Ok, Dipper," I whispered to myself, "make it quick and brief." I stepped in. Immediately, I was slammed into the black tile. I groaned angrily and shakily stood up. I walked up and peaked back around that same corner.
In the middle, sat Eleanor, crying her eyes out. I ran up. "Eleanor!" I cried, unable to contain my relief.
"D-Dipper?!" Eleanor looked up in my direction. "DIPPER! DIPPER!" Tears of joy rained down her face.
I ran up an hugged her tightly, enjoying her presence and her voice. "Eleanor...did Bill visit you...recently?" I asked reluctantly.
Eleanor drew away, her face crimson. "I-I...yes..."
"What did he say?" I asked.
Her eyes lit up with understanding. "Why did you try to do that?! Why?!"
I lowered my head in shame. "I didn't know what I was doing. I wasn't thinking straight."
Eleanor hugged me against tightly. "I'm glad your not hurt too badly.
I could tell one thing else happened. I could tell by the way she looked at me in horror when I asked her if Bill had seen her. Her face was mortified that I brought it up.
"Eleanor...did Bill hurt you...when he came?" I asked urgently.
Again, she blushed fiercely. "Uh-um..." She swallowed. Her eyes shine bright with fear. "It was nothing..." She murmured.
"Don't lie." I said sternly.
Eleanor sighed and raised her head, her cheeks still flushed. I held her arms steadily. "What did he do?" I asked stubbornly.
Eleanor's eyes watered with starting tears. "He-I....he was taunting me, Pine-I mean-" She broke off in utter horror.
I broke away from her and backed away five feet. No! Was she possessed by Bill?!
"NO! Dipper! I'm sorry! Just, he's said it so much and- I'm not able to be possessed!" She showed her arm and unwrapped her arm, revealing a large bloody gash across her wrist.
"I don't know...it's hard to-"
"I'm sorry!" Eleanor growled threw gritted teeth. "Please. Don't leave."
I walked back to her, slowly and unsurely. "Ok...don't slip up while talking." I chuckled, but my heart was rapidly beating.
Eleanor sighed and lowered her gaze. I prayed that she wouldn't soon get hooked onto Bill's personality. "Bill...he showed me a picture of you...you and this blonde girl together.."
I gasped. "No! I'm not with her! I was looking for shelter and I know her, we finally met up in her mansion."
"So...you're not with her?" Eleanor asked.
"No, I'm not. Bill was trying to trick you." I hugged her tightly. "I'm glad that's all he did."
Eleanor stiffened and I drew away quickly.
"What is it?" I questioned.
"Th-that wasn't all." She added, her eyes wide.
I remained silent as I waited for her to speak.
"Bill, he showed me the images and I got jealous." She rubbed her arm. "He said that I 'wouldn't want to stay with that two timer sister.' I told him to not call me that and he said it was better than girlfriend."
My body went cold. Oh...
"I told him I hated him and he said-" Eleanor broke off in embarrassment, "he said that I didn't seem to hate him when I kissed him."
I blushed and looked away from Eleanor. Bill was low, but I didn't think he'd go that low.
"I denied it and he turned human. He taunted me saying 'I thought you liked me better this way' and stuff...it was horrible and-" she hid her face in her hands. "God..."
"Eleanor! Did he-"
"NO!" She screamed. "He didn't kiss me. Ok! He pretended he was, laughing at how I was in totally misery. It was awful. But he didn't. He didn't."
I nodded and held her hands steadily. "I'm really sorry he treated you like that." I apologized for her. "He was trying to make you feel that way."
Eleanor growled. "It's so frustrating! Why does Bill have to act like that?! He knows alllll of our weaknesses!"
I let go of her hands and sighed. "I don't know. But I hate him as well- obviously. Bill's tortured me before. God, he figures out everyone's weakness."
"Did you find out anything...helpful?" Eleanor asked.
I immediately jumped back to seeing Stan down by the weird futuristic thing. "I didn't....but I did find Gruncle Stan...down in that place." I swallowed hard.
Eleanor paled. "I-I should have told you..."
"You knew about that?!" I screamed.
"I saw him down there before...I forgot to warn you about-"
"What is he working on?!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
Eleanor bit her lip lightly. "A-a portal...but I don't think that Stan built it...he's too...old..." Eleanor's eyes darted around nervously.
"A...a what?! A portal?!" I took a deep breath. "But..that isn't-" I gasped. "In the journals...there were pictures for..." I put a hand to my forehead in shock as the pieces fell together. "It looked like a part of..." I gasped and stood up. "Oh my GOD!" I screamed.
"What? What is it?" Eleanor as quietly.
"The journals have blue prints for the portal thing...Stan...is THE AUTHOR OF THE JOURNALS!" I stumbled back and fell to the ground.
Eleanor looked to the side uncertainly. "I don't know...."
I tried to get to my feet, but I was dizzy and stumbled closer to the wall.
"Dipper? DIPPER! Be careful!" Eleanor lurched out towards me, but the chains held her back. "Dipper! Watch out!"
I caught my against the solid wall, and took deep breaths. "But Eleanor! It all makes sense!"
Eleanor glared at me. "Dipper! The last thing we need to worry about is your great uncle and the burnt journals! Those both don't matter right now! You're not thinking straight!"
"I've known him longer than you! I have a right to say so!" I exclaimed in anger. "My head is on straight!"
"Pft, says the kid who tried to commit suicide!" Eleanor gasped and her hands flew up to cover her mouth.
My mouth hung open slightly. Yeah...she went there. I closed it angrily. "Oh, ok. I guess this is how it is. I guess I over stayed my welcome here, Eleanor." I steadied myself and marched out to where I had come in.
"I'm sorry! It just came out! Please! Forgive me!" Eleanor cried out, but I was already gone.
Eleanor's POV
I pulled at my hair angrily. "Dip...I-I...I didn't mean it!" I said, even though I knew he was gone. I buried my face in my hands in shame. That was a horrible thing for me to say. "I'm sorry Dipper...I'm catching onto Bill's attitude."
"Great to hear that!"
I shrieked and scrambled back to see Bill, in his true form, smirking at me. My shocked face became angry. "Would you stop that?" I asked agitated.
Bill shrugged and leaned on my shoulder which I glared at him even more, uncomfortably. "It's boring if I don't make a dramatic entrance!" Bill made confetti rain down as party noises erupted around him. The confetti floated down and into my hair.
"Is it really that boring that you need me for company constantly?" I retorted.
Bill narrowed his eye for a moment. "Maybe you're just that interesting."
I clenched my fists tightly and turned away from him.
"Aw, c'mon, Arrow. Do you really hate me that much?" Bill asked earnestly.
"What do you think?" I spat.
"I think that you like me more than you're letting on." Bill poked my arm and I jerked my arm away from him. Bill materialized in front of me. "Why?" He asked.
"Are you being serious right now?" I growled.
Bill crossed his arms. "Try me."
My eyes widened. Oh...he's being serious. I swallowed. "Well...first off you have chained me up and second you are torturing my friends and destroying the world!"
Bill glanced away.
Is he...guilty...no. "Why are you even doing this?" I asked.
Bill sighed and looked down at me angrily. "When you are stuck in a crumbling world with nothing to do...you tend to start plotting fun things to do. This is just the base of everything I have been working on. Ever." Bill clasped his hands together. "I don't think you'd like to be trapped into the Nightmare Realm for eternity...would you?"
I glanced away. "I guess not..."
"So we understand each other!" He said happily. "Great! Now you can stop begging me to cancel everything I've worked for!"
"No! Go somewhere else Bill! Or maybe take on a hobby! I heard stamp collecting is fun." I suggested.
Bill waved me away. "I don't need you trying to get in my head. I've had these plans for over a billion years and there's no point in burning them now!" Bill waved and materialized away.
I crossed my arms stubbornly and glared at nothing. "Fine. Fine." I looked down the hall where Dipper had disappeared. That was low of you to say to him, Eleanor. I told myself. Very...low...
