Chapter 21
Dipper's POV
How was I going to fix this? I need to get Mabel to be a person again. I also needed to free Eleanor. I had dragged Mabel out of the clearing and behind a wall so no one saw her and got any ideas of what to do with her petrified body. They could smash her for all I knew, and I couldn't let that happen.
"Maybe a magic of some type would work?" I asked her.
Eleanor shook her head. "No...these chains are made by Bill. They are resistant to any other type of magic, but his own."
I nodded. "What can I do to Mabel? Is there a way to change her back, a way to bring her with me?"
Eleanor thought for a moment. "I don't know... It's not like you can just carry her in your pocket."
I jolted. That's it! "I know what I can do! I can shrink Mabel with the crystals in the forest and bring her along with me so she can't be found!"
Eleanor nodded. "Good, now get going!"
I took out the two walkie-talkies that were meant for me and Mabel and handed one to Eleanor. "If anything happens to you or to Mabel- anything at all-contact me."
Eleanor sighed and grabbed onto the walkie-talkie. "Ok, got it."
I took a deep breath. "Be right back." I turned and ran to the spot I had fallen through and jumped through it. I ran across the tracks and climbed down the mountain quickly, but steadily. I raced into the forest as fast as I could. If I could get there and back without being spotted, that'd be great. I reached deep within the forest and stopped running. This part of the forest didn't seem to be effected too much by the weirdness stuff.
I looked ahead and saw a root jutting out of the ground, a perfect foot-tripper. I smiled. This was where I had fallen last time when I was trying to find the crystals in the first place. I jogged down the slope and found the giant crystals. "Boo yeah." I said as I dug one out of the ground. I taped it to my flashlight like I had done so long ago. Time to go back.
I turned around and jumped. A giant squirrel with razor teeth and webbed wings stood in front of me. Drool dripped out of its jaws. "I-I..." I tried to back away. So this is how it ends, huh, Dipper? Death by squirrel.
The squirrel growled at me and got ready to leap at me. I fumbled for the flashlight. The creature leapt at me. I screamed and pressed the flashlight button and the shrink-light burst on. The squirrel froze for a second and began to shrink and shrink till it was about as big as my pointer finger.
The squirrel landed onto my arm. Dejá vu of that mountain lion. The squirrel yowled and tried to scratch me, but it's claws were barely long enough. I shook the squirrel off so it was flung to the ground. The squirrel suddenly spoke. "BILL! BILL! PINE TREE! PINE TREE!!!"
"Oh God." I raced out of that forest faster than I could have imagined. I desperately scrambled up the mountain to reach the rails. I saw the floating pyramid flicker. Bill was coming. Hopefully it would take him a while to track me here. I raced down the tracks and crashed through the orb.
Everything spun around and I was thrown to the ground. I desperately got to my feet and made my way towards Eleanor.
"Eleanor! Bill! Bill knows I'm here!" I screamed.
Eleanor looked at me wildly. "What? How?"
"This stupid squirrel!" I said angrily.
"A squirrel?" She said in confusion.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll tell yah later sometime." I muttered. I went behind the wall and pulled out the flashlight.
Mabel, still frozen in a scream, stood still and silent. Part of me thought that if I pointed this light at her that it would make her unfreeze, not shrink. I shook that out of my head. She'll be fixed later...
I pressed the button and the statue shrank down to the size of the shrunken squirrel. I picked up the statue and held it delicately. "There...now you are able to come with me..." I whispered mournfully.
I came out from behind the wall. "Do you think I can shrink you out of there?" I asked.
Eleanor scoffed. "Probably not, but you can try."
I pointed the flashlight her and flicked it on. The light races towards her. At first there was hope, but then it bounced off of her. I yelped and dropped to the ground. The shrink light hit the wall and dissipated to smoke. "Well, that worked...didn't it?"
Eleanor shrugged and sighed. "It's fine."
"Knock kknnnooocckkkk!!" A voice rang through the room.
Eleanor paled. "It's Bill!" She whisper screamed.
I immediately darted back behind the wall and hid there. God, if Bill found me.... I'd be a dead man.
"Well, hello Arrow." Bill greeted her.
Reluctantly, Eleanor responded. "Hi...Bill..."
Bill tapped his chin. "Hm...where's Shooting Star?"
Eleanor didn't meet his gaze. "I don't know, I was trying to sleep. I can't even touch her anyways."
Bill thought for a moment. "Uh, hu," Bill said unconvinced. "But I know someone else who could have taken her." Bill said knowingly.
Oh God, I thought, oh God, oh God, oh God.
"Yeah?" Eleanor played it cool. "Who?"
"Just...Pine Tree." Bill said slyly.
"Who's Pine Tree? I don't know a Pine Tree?" Eleanor answered.
Ugh, Eleanor! I thought angrily. Stop playing it dumb, he's not stupid!
Bill chuckled in an irritated manor. "You know exactly who I'm talking about."
Eleanor cringed away from Bill. She remained silent.
"Where is he?" Bill asked.
Eleanor stayed silent.
"Where? Is? He?!" Bill persisted angrily.
Eleanor flinched. "I-I don't know..." I could barely hear her words.
"Oh, well, I guess I'll have to just squeeze it out of you!" Bill levitated her off the ground, the chains then restraining her. Bill tightened his fist. "Tell me."
Eleanor couldn't breath, she was gasping for air and I doubted she even heard him.
"Hey Bill! STOP!" I came out from around the corner.
Bill looked at me, shock only on his face momentarily. He dropped Eleanor to the ground and she gasped out desperately for air.
"Well isn't this...interesting?" Bill zoomed up to me before I could understand what was happening.
I shielded myself against Bill's gaze. Ok....what do I do now?
"Couldn't bear to see your girlfriend go, could you?" Bill asked.
I blushed angrily. "She's not my-"
"And after you said how much you didn't care!" Bill interrupted me.
"I-I....it's sorta complicated." I said shortly.
"You wanna tell me where Shooting Star went?" Bill asked. I made sure to not look at my pocket where her shrunken statue was.
"I don't know... The last I saw her was, her running to save Eleanor!" I turned away. "But then I decided to come too, I didn't find Mabel, though..." I said slowly.
Bill glared at me furious. "Don't lie to me Pine Tree!" He screamed.
"But I don't know!" I cried. What is he going to do to me?!
"Don't lie to me Pine Tree, I know you are lying!" Bill held out his hand, reminding me of that time of when I was an idiot and made that deal. "Now hand her over."
"I don't have her." I said quietly.
Bill went stiff. "Fine." Bill turned red and swatted me with all of his strength. I screamed as I was hurled backwards towards the wall.
"DIPPER!" I heard Eleanor cry.
I screamed as I passed through the wall and plummeted down, down, down. Why did I have to fall down the mountain?!?!?! I thought frantically.
I forced myself to turn around. If Mabel were alive she'd save me with her grappling hook. WAIT! The grappling hook!!! I fumbled through my backpack and felt the handle. I pulled it out.
OH MY GOD!
I pointed it at the railing. The hook shot up. The hook finally reached the tracks and wrapped around it. The rope became taught and I stopped falling. I swung fifteen feet off the ground.
"Oh my God..." My heart was in my throat and was beating like a humming bird's wings. "Mabel..." I felt relief flood through me. "Once again, you saved me."
I lowered myself to the ground and made it safely. I almost died (again) and Mabel saved my life (again). Well, she technically saved my life again. I pulled out the Mabel statue and admired it. "Thank you..." I whispered.
God, I had never wanted my sister to do something totally ridiculous right now than I ever wanted anything. If she could just crack a joke or boop my face...I'd feel so much better.
Eleanor's POV
"DIPPER!" I screamed. Dipper was flung against the wall-no-through it. He vanished. "NO!" I turned to Bill in a panic. "What did you do to him?!" I asked.
"Well, he's probably plummeting to his death." Bill explained.
"Why?! Why did you do that?!" I cried as horror trembled through me.
Bill shrugged. "If he wasn't going to corporate, there was no use for him."
I felt the tears welling up in my eyes. "No....he can't be dead...no please."
Bill gave a small shrug again. "Oh well. Human lifespans are only a second compared to mine." Bill laughed. "Too bad, kinda liked him, but he was a pain when ever he tried to ruin everything." Bill blew it off. "I'm here now."
How can he not be effected?! I thought. He-he just...just- I couldn't finish my own thoughts. "How could you do this?!" I yelled Bill.
"Death doesn't frighten me kid, why would it? Anyways, I'll see you later. Let's hope another soul wanders in here for me to play with while I'm gone." Bill then evaporated.
I pulled at my hair, the thought of Dipper plummeting thousands of feet to his death tearing me apart.
When would this nightmare end?
