Veronica
Veronica
Trevor went to deliver a meal to Veronica. He knocked on the door and unlocked it. He was armed just in case. He had no problem killing this vampire if he needed to. He hadn't killed one in a long time and was looking forward to it if he was being honest.
He opened the door and Veronica was sitting at a desk. She was silent and didn't move. She had no interest in pissing off the armed vampire hunter. She didn't need any challenges like that today.
"I have food and I am armed and I will kill you without a thought if I have to." Trevor warned her. He locked them inside the room.
"Okay. I have no interest in killing you. I want to kill York. I would love to help kill York, that asshole." Veronica was in tears.
Trevor handed her a warm bag. Veronica took it and sunk her teeth in and sighed. She would beg for another one but he gave her one more. She was still just a little hungry but she was okay for now. "Thanks."
"Welcome. I would hate to have to kill you." Trevor smiled.
"I would hate that too. Very messy. The blood would never come out of this carpet." Veronica smiled and looked down at the floor.
Trevor watched Veronica. He just realized that she showered. She had pretty brown wavy hair. She was small and had a very sweet smile. Her eyes were dark brown and he wanted to look at them some more. She was pretty.
"Oh, I took a shower and I found these clothes in a drawer. I hope that is okay." Veronica wasn't sure.
"It's fine. Those were my sister, Eve's clothes. It's about time they got used. This was her room." Trevor sighed. Eve was a tough hunter and he missed her sometimes. Her room had been empty for too long.
"Are you okay?" Trevor asked very gently. He knew that this woman had been through a lot, even though she was a vampire. He sat at the desk.
Veronica shook her head. "No. York stole me from my car. I just got off work. I was working at a coffee shop downtown and going to school. I was thrown in a room and left there for two days. I was hungry and tired. Thirsty. I was still human. York had me dragged out and he turned me. It was forceful and painful. He said he liked to watch women scream so I didn't. It took everything that I had not to scream."
She stopped and looked at Trevor. "The pain is intense. Worse than that. I refused to scream. He changed me and threw me in a cell with a person. A terrified person. I refused to drink blood. I stayed in the corner, in a ball. I refused to do anything that York wanted. That pissed him off and he put me in a room with windows all day and at night, I was in with a person. I was so hungry but I refused. York would walk in and I would spit on him. He would hit me and knock me down and leave. I heard him say that I would give in eventually. They all did. Well, I didn't."
"I stayed strong. When they left, he took the person out of the cell and left me. I spit on him as he left. He just laughed then everyone was gone and you guys came. I don't know how many days I was there. I don't know when I was taken. I can't seem to remember much else." Veronica had tears.
Trevor stared at her. "So that was your first meal?"
Veronica nodded. "I was so scared that I would kill that person. I think it was a guy but I don't know. I never looked at him. I was scared that if I looked at him that I would kill him. I could hear his heart beating and my mouth would water. I just held on tighter to my knees. Please. You can kill me if you need to. Really, I understand. I never planned on being this way."
Trevor smiled. "My sister's a vampire that doesn't kill people. It can be done. Not everyone that is a vampire kills. York is an exception to the rule and they are the ones that give vampires a bad name. Most vampires are decent, hard working people just like humans. They just want to live in peace." He wanted to reassure her. He didn't know why.
"Then there is York. Idiots like that, they just want to kill and cause problems." Trevor touched Veronica's hand. "You can stay here for as long as you need to. Please, if you are hungry, I can show you where your food is."
"But I thought... ?" Veronica was confused. "I thought that I was a prisoner?"
Trevor nodded. "I thought it would be smart... But.... You have been through enough. I would hate to lock you up. Come on. I will show you around. You betray me and I will kill you. I promise, Veronica."
"I know. I won't, Trevor." Veronica looked in his eyes. He was so tall and pretty. He was...dreamy for a human.
Trevor looked at Veronica. He loved how she just said his name. She had a slight southern accent. Nice. He cleared his throat and opened the door. "Come on."
Veronica followed him downstairs and to the pantry. He opened the secret fridge and took out a bag and handed it to Veronica. She took a bite of the bag and sighed.
"Oh, you can heat it up if you like. You don't have to drink it cold." Trevor smiled. She was pretty as a vampire.
Veronica smiled. "It's okay. This is better than what I had. Thank you, Trevor." She looked into his eyes. Trevor was staring at her face. He cleared his throat and walked out of the pantry. "So, what do you do around here?"
"Oh, I make things." Trevor wasn't sure what to tell her yet.
"That sounds fun. I used to love to make stuff. I used to paint...I think. Some stuff is a little hazy." She sighed. "I liked to put things together and build things. It was always fun to find out how things worked. I wasn't supposed to like that stuff because I was a girl and it wasn't proper." She made a face and smoothed her clothes.
"Sure it is. I love to build things too. Although, I am not a girl so it's okay." Trevor smiled and Veronica smiled and shook her head. Trevor chuckled.
"Look, you can lock me back up. It's okay. I know you don't trust me and I have no way of proving anything to you. I can go back to the room. It was a pretty room and I'm tired." Veronica yawned.
"Okay." Trevor walked with the new vampire back to her room. He opened her door and led her inside. He pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "I will check on you in a few hours. Sweet dreams, Veronica."
Veronica smiled. "Thanks, Trevor." She watched his face as the door closed. She sighed and laid down. She was asleep in no time. She hoped that he was in her dreams.
