Revelations
Revelations
Cash was following Malcolm through the woods. "So, how is the doctor?" Malcolm smiled.
Cash turned red. "She's fine." He was bursting.
"Dude. I can read you like a dirty novel! What happened? Please say you did it in the morgue!" Malcolm smiled at Cash.
"No. We did make out in the kitchen and her office. No one ever kissed me like that! I had a tough time stopping. I took her shirt!" Cash was looking around and kept walking as Malcolm stopped. Cash was on high alert. "What?" He looked around. He didn't sense anything.
"You made out with the hot doctor in the morgue?"
Cash smiled. "Yes! Yes, I did. It was awesome! We talked and I kissed her. I thought she was going to kick me out or run out but she didn't. She kissed me back."
"I almost had sex with her against the wall in her office. We ate pizza and we are going to a movie to make out soon. I can't wait to see her again. Come on...let's go kill something!" Cash kept walking. Bouncing through the woods.
Malcolm had no smart ass comments. He had to admit that was cool. Making out in a morgue. Cash just got his very first cool points. He laughed and followed his brother.
"I'm proud." It was all he could think to say. Half of him wanted to believe his brother and half of him was thinking that Cash was just trying to make him jealous.
Cash never did anything with women so kissing an almost stranger in a morgue seemed a stretch. Cash wasn't a liar though. Malcolm was hoping that he was rubbing off on his brother.
They followed the smell of the vampires scouting them and followed it to a compound in the woods. It wreaked of vampires. Ten flew out and the fight began. Cash needed this. A good fight. He held one vampire down. "What do you want from us?"
"Just the name of the hunter with you!" The vampire moaned.
Cash glared. "We don't have a hunter with us."
"Sure? There is one running around. He has killed plenty of us, more than the two of you but we thought that he was with you. We don't know who he is. York just wanted him. Just him." The vampire groaned in pain.
"Why?" Cash had ideas.
"To collect and keep. Turn him. Use him for his...needs. He takes what he wants and he is on his list." The vampire was hurting. Cash was disgusted and killed the vampire.
"You want to help me over here?" Malcolm was about to be in trouble.
Someone dressed in a black hood, face covered, came from nowhere and landed. She put her sword through two vampires surrounding Malcolm. She flipped around and took out another vampire and landed in front of Cash. She stopped.
Cash pointed his sword at her. "Who are you?"
"No one." She assured him. Emma recognized this. This was her dream. There was going to be a vampire behind him. It would kill him. She was ready.
Cash misunderstood. He drove his sword through her shoulder and she tried to lunge past him. She screamed in pain. She still got the vampire about to kill Cash but she was injured.
"Damn it! I was trying to save your life!" She yanked the sword out of her shoulder and glared at him.
He saw the vampire blue eyes. This was a vampire? Cash was confused and that voice was very familiar. He knew who this was...he was hoping with everything in him that he was wrong. Her voice was intoxicating and he had it memorized. He just stared at the new hunter. He wanted to be wrong. He was freaking out.
"A little help here. I am working over here!" Malcolm glared at his brother as he was fighting three vampires. He punched one vampire in the face as his brother just stood there staring at the new hunter. "Forget her and help me!" He flipped another vampire and threw a knife at another.
"Right. We are talking later." Cash warned the stranger. A vampire hunter that is a vampire? Who was this woman? He had a ton of questions. Shit! He jumped in to help his brother and tried to fight off the thoughts swirling in his head. Emma. He wanted to be wrong.
Emma fought her way inside. She helped the boys by killing four vampires at the entrance. Trevor was in her ear. "Are you okay?"
"Yes. Fine. I'm healing. I have to find either York or the people he kidnapped." Emma was trying to be quiet. "Now hush. I'm inside." She could tell that York was gone. The important ones had already fled. Emma walked around with her sword ready.
"Are you sure he was kidnapping people?" Trevor had to ask.
Emma was looking around. "Yes. The vampires the other night said he wanted me, I'm sure I'm not the only one. The only reason he doesn't have me yet is because I'm a hunter."
She knew she couldn't be the only one. There had to be more. She had to help them or kill them. She hated killing innocent people but if he turned them and they were rabid, she would have no choice.
This place was creepy and dark. She liked that part. There were some bare light bulbs hanging on the block walls giving off soft light but it was dark. Comfortable for a vampire. She was thinking about keeping this place as a vacation spot.
The first room was big, huge like a warehouse almost. She had no idea what this place was used for or why it was here. The walls were gray cinder blocks.
Everything was gray. There were several doorways so she picked one off to the left and started to head down. The rest of this was underground. Also good for vampires.
She followed bare light bulbs down for a few minutes. She was almost enjoying the walk but she could hear someone yelling, calling out. She wasn't close to whoever it was yet. She could tell that they weren't moving. They were stationary but she was heading that way. This seemed to be a circle, maybe. A dungeon? It reminded her of a dungeon. Why in the hell was this place here?
Malcolm was upset that there weren't any more vampires. He wasn't done fighting. They fought their way around the outside and finished off the vampires outside the building so no vampires followed them. He had time to yell at Cash. Responsible Cash.
"What is going on, big brother." He was being sarcastic.
"Really, big brother? We are two minutes apart, I really don't think that I'm much older than you, Malcolm." Cash rolled his eyes.
"Hey!" He grabbed Cash's arm and pulled him to a stop. "What in the hell? Please explain why Dr. Beckett is a hunter? That was the doctor you were referring to? Is she a vampire?"
Cash sighed. "Yes and I didn't know!"
"How did you not know? I'm confused. You were in the morgue with her. You made out with her and had no idea at all? None? You are a vampire hunter. You had to know?" Malcolm was concerned.
Cash was mad at himself and didn't need his brother to point out his blunder. "Shut up. I didn't know, okay! I had no idea. That morgue reeked of vampires. That one we killed."
"Are you sure it was the one we killed? That smell should have dissipated by the second or third day. It wouldn't linger that long, Cash. Think about it." Malcolm stared at his brother. "That was a week ago."
"Shut up, please!" Cash was beside himself. "I..."
"You really like her huh?" Malcolm knew Cash and he soften.
"Damn it! I don't know what to think right now! Can we just hunt some stupid vampires? I need to kill something." Cash stormed off toward the back of the building.
They were going in the back entrance. There was no one around when they entered. "I should have sensed that she was a vampire." He said out of nowhere.
"Maybe you didn't want to or didn't care." Malcolm felt a little sorry for Cash. He never cared for a woman this much. He never paid much attention to them. "I mean she isn't a normal vampire, huh? I have never heard of one that hunted their kind."
Malcolm remembered that Cash tried to have a girlfriend a few years ago but it was bad. She hated his job and dumped him while he was gone. He gave up after that, until now. This time it's a vampire. It's part of the reason Malcolm never wanted a serious relationship. It is too painful.
Malcolm almost laughed. "A vampire!" He did laugh.
"Not funny. Pay attention. I...there is a vampire coming." Cash had his sword ready. Malcolm straightened. He could feel it too.
She heard the boys coming. There was a hallway leading straight and one that turn to the left. They were coming from the left. She was relieved that Cash was safe. Alive.
She could hear them talking. Malcolm was lecturing Cash and she was sure that Cash was ignoring him. She got through a hall and froze. The guys were on the other side. Armed and watching her. She held her sword on the hilt and pointed it down. "I won't hurt you. I am looking for hostages."
"You are a vampire?" Cash asked. That voice sounded very familiar. Very sexy. He knew that voice and he knew he was right. He really didn't want to be right. He made out with a vampire. Hell, he was in love with her.
Emma watched them. She was almost waiting for them to attack. Was Cash just pointing that out? "Yes. I won't hurt you. I am just trying to help. York is gone. I don't know if it was before or after we all got here." Emma wanted to leave but it was too late. He knew.
"We are talking later. Doctor." Cash said. He glared.
Emma stared. She almost passed out and then she heard Trevor. "Told you he would figure this out. He is a hunter and we tend to be smart."
"Shut up!" She said to Trevor and looked at the guys. "Not you." She sighed. "Hostages. I have to find them. If he left them." She put her sword away and walked to the men that may kill her.
"I told you this was complicated." She took her hood down. Cash sighed. Maybe Cash didn't know. She looked at him. No, he knew. Cash wasn't surprised.
"Are you okay?" Cash was concerned. "Your shoulder." He stepped toward her. He felt horrible about stabbing her.
"I'm fine. Glad there was no garlic on your sword." Emma half smiled and a tear escaped. She wiped it in a hurry. "I'm sorry." It felt like time slowed down or stopped. Emma looked at Cash and he looked at her with worry. Guilt. She knew that he felt guilty for stabbing her. She knew he had to be torn about liking her. She was a vampire and he was a vampire hunter. She felt terrible that she didn't tell him. It was too late now.
Cash watched Emma. How did he not know she was a vampire? Did he ignore those signs on purpose? Did he like her that much that he would ignore his training. He was trained his whole life to find and kill vampires and he missed this one.
Sure, they didn't kill every vampire, just the bad ones. The ones that killed humans or threatened people. They had to stop the threats and protect the humans. The less they knew the better. Cash was sure he was freaking out.
He had never talked to a vampire before, not like he talked to Emma. He wanted a chance to talk to her again. He enjoyed her company even though he was sure he shouldn't.
Time sped back up to normal and Emma cleared her throat. "Come on. Someone is walking." She tilted her head to listen, "this way. We can meet him in the middle. I think this goes around." Emma put her hood up and tucked in her hair. She cleared her throat and waited for a sword in her back. None came. They were saving that for later.
"I hope they don't kill you before I do and Byron is waiting in line also." Trevor commented in her ear.
"Really. Is Byron there?" Emma whispered.
"Morning, Emma. Way to do the opposite of what you were told." Byron was sarcastic this morning. She was told to stay away from the hunters not make out with one.
"Morning. Sorry. I really am." Emma sighed and kept looking around. There were halls and empty cells to keep an eye on.
"Who are you talking to?" Cash asked. Malcolm was still shocked. He was hoping that Cash was wrong.
Emma turned to look at the guys. "Trevor. I have a comm device." She pointed to her ear.
"Tell him not to kill you until we do!" Trevor said.
"He says hello and to hold off on killing me until he does. Byron also. He is kind of an uncle." Emma sighed. She straightened her sword and took a breath. She rounded the corner in time to slice a vampire in half without effort. She smiled.
"Okay, that whole thing with Trevor being protective makes sense right now. I get it now." Trevor was trying to keep Emma alive in the office. If Cash had been paying attention and doing his job, he may have killed Emma. Trevor was thinking like a vampires hunter. Cash was thinking like a horny man. "I am so confused right now!" Cash pointed out. "Part of me wants to kill you and part of me wants to drag you to a room in this compound and finish what we started in the morgue!"
Three people were shocked. Trevor didn't believe the story that they made out. Byron was just hearing about this. "What! That was true?" Malcolm asked. "I thought you were making that up to make me jealous. I never made out in a morgue! You really made out in the morgue!"
"Really?" Trevor's voice was shocked. Byron was cursing. "I thought that...just get home. Alive."
"Sorry." Emma apologized to everyone.
Cash smiled. "Oh, now everything makes more sense. Trevor really was freaking out but it was because you were there in the office with me. I get it now. Vampire and vampire hunter." Hindsight.
She smiled and cleared her throat. Emma smiled at Cash and melted a little. She heard a couple of sounds. One was a banging. "This way." She saw Malcolm and he had a look of hesitation. "I won't let you die, Malcolm. Cash will never make out with me again if I let his brother die!" She winked at him. Cash laughed. He started to push ahead. "I'm first. I'm...not as easy to kill."
"You are not invincible! You really should say that every morning in the mirror!" Trevor suggested.
"I know. I'm not invincible but they.. shhh..." They were closer to the stationary voice.
"Please! Help. That asshole. Please." A woman's voice. She was in a jail cell. Old school.
Emma could tell this was a vampire. She looked inside and saw a small woman. She was definitely a vampire. "Stay back, Cash. I have this one. Who are you?" She didn't know if this was a trick.
"Veronica. York turned me in hopes of making me one of his whores. I hate him and just kept spitting on him. He tried to take me out of here but I refused so he locked me in. Probably figured you would kill me or I would starve. He is cruel." Veronica was in tears. She knew they would kill her. She wasn't really ready to die yet.
"Veronica. I'm Emma. I won't hurt you if you don't try to hurt me. I will kill you." Emma warned. "These guys will also. They are vampire hunters. I saw them behead a vampire and he turned to dust. They will do that to both of us if we aren't careful. They are thinking about it right now. Do you understand?"
Veronica nodded. "Kill me if you have to but don't leave me here. I want to die in the hallway, not in this cell. I have been in here for a long time and during the day, York put me in a cell with windows. It was hot. Please. I don't know where the key is."
"Step back." Emma took her hood off. She looked at Cash and sighed. "Just hold on." She looked at the bolts. This was an old cell. She looked around for leverage. She could use her sword to pop the door of the hinges. This one didn't have bolts or screws or pins.
It slid down onto the pins but the door was too heavy to pick up. She put her sword through the slats in the bottom of the door and pushed. It raised the door off the hinges. Cash put his sword beside hers and pushed down. Malcolm held the door so it didn't fall on anyone. Mostly Cash. It fell off the hinges and Malcolm pulled it away. "I'm impressed that it didn't break my sword. Thanks."
Cash had the vampire at sword point. He just looked at her. "Easy. Cash. Let me deal with her and you guys just go. I have her. Go. Find me later. I work in a couple of days. My regular shift. Kill me then." Seemed like a good place to die. The morgue. They wouldn't have to take her far.
"I will find you." Cash warned. Emma just nodded. She wiped some tears as they walked off. Trevor would be free. Her death could benefit him. Crush him but help him. It was confusing.
Veronica limped out. She hadn't eaten in awhile. Emma held her up. "Easy. I have you. Let's get you some food and you can tell me what you know about York. If you want to help."
"I would love to. Thanks, Emma." Veronica was dirty and her clothes were torn and old. Emma couldn't even tell what color her hair was it was so dirty. Emma wondered how long she was down here.
