Trevor had several bags of blood for Veronica when Emma helped her in the house. Trevor put them down as he took the vampire and was holding her up.

"I can't believe you brought her here!" The door flew open and Cash barged in. "Really? Emma!" Malcolm was behind him. They both looked fierce.

"Hey, I didn't bring them. They followed." Trevor glared at his sister. "What? It's not like I could move. I was handicapped. I got stabbed, you know and I was carrying someone." Emma took her stuff off and walked to the kitchen in her tank top and stretch pants.

"Well, we are talking after I get this vampire situated." He turned to Veronica. "I have food and a place for you to stay. Come on." Trevor helped her walk up the stairs that led somewhere off the kitchen.

Emma watched Trevor and was surprised with how gentle he was with her. She pulled out two bags and popped one in the microwave. She drank the first one cold. Yuck. But it helped.

She was hungry and her shoulder would heal faster when she ate. Her shirt was stained with blood from her wound but it was practically healed.

"Hello, Byron, Sir." She wasn't even looking at Byron. She was checking her shoulder.

Byron was big in the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around her and squeezed. "You scared the shit out of me!" He let go.

"Sorry. I told you not to listen when I'm working. What are you doing here?" The microwave beeped.

She pulled out the bag and shook it. She threw the first one in the trash and sank her teeth in the second. She closed her eyes. She knew that Cash was watching and she didn't want to see his disgusted face. She sat in a chair at the table.

"Well, I was worried. I was pissed because that report you turned in was worrisome. You missed a vampire, didn't get any information and they broke your car. You were sloppy and I was worried." Byron was blunt.

Emma tossed the second bag. "I know. Sorry. I was having a tough time and I let stuff get in the way. I am sorry. Who is here to kill me first?" She looked around.

Byron rolled his eyes at Emma. "Emma. I'm not going to kill you. I am suggesting that you take a vacation. Somewhere nice. Maybe take a friend. Take Trevor. Something. You...when was your last vacation." Byron sounded concerned.

"Are we seriously talking about that right now?" Emma could think of several other important topics. The vampire hunters standing in the kitchen. The new vampire, Veronica. Or York. No, they were discussing her vacation. Byron did bring this up a lot.

"She doesn't take vacations. Byron, you know that." Trevor piled on to her lecture. He just walked back in. He would deal with the vampire he carried into a bedroom. Later.

"I know. I am benching you for a month. No more work for a month." Byron ordered. She was part of his pack, he was her Alpha. He was in charge of her when he needed to be. He was pulling rank.

"You are serious? Are you pulling Alpha on me?" Emma sighed.

"I'm confused." Malcolm was talking and looked at Emma. "Are you a werewolf?" He knew of Byron. He was a legend and the real person didn't disappoint. He wasn't to be questioned.

Byron laughed. "No. No, she is my ward. Sort of. Their parents passed and left them in my custody. They all joined the pack years ago. Trevor and Emma are all that are left." He made eye contact with Malcolm and Malcolm smiled and didn't look away. Byron raised an eyebrow. He was curious.

"I take orders...jobs. I do things for the pack that they can't do without breaking territories and laws. I am like a free agent. I fumbled the last one. I didn't get any useful information and I didn't know about a third guy!" Emma looked upset.

"That was you!" Cash looked shocked. Emma was worried that he was going to kill her.

Emma just stared at Cash. "What do you mean?"

"Holy shit! The one on Route nine? The vampires smashed the car. Blue sedan?" Cash asked.

Trevor sighed. "Yes. That was Emma but she missed the third guy. We don't know who got the third one."

"We did." Cash stared at Trevor. "That was us. We watched the whole thing. Those vampires were out to kill you. We thought you were dead."

"And a dude." Malcolm put in and made eye contact with Bryon again and looked back to Emma. "We thought you were a dude." He saw Byron smile and it was gone. He loved that he just made Bryon smile. He wanted to do that again.

"Yes well..." Cash looked at the floor. "We weren't close."

Emma smiled. "You got the third one! You saved my ass! Those two smashed my car and I was pissed. I was sent to just question and release. I forgot the release part. Once they knew I was a woman, I had to kill them mostly because they pissed me off. I left before I realized that there was a third guy because I smelled hunters. I didn't realize that was you guys, I could've guessed that though."

"The third vampire would have gone back to York." Byron growled. "I have to find this York bastard." He was thinking. "So, you are the only other hunters in the area?"

Malcolm was excited to answer Byron's question. "Yes. We should be, Sir." He made eye contact again and Byron held it. He was going to enjoy looking at Malcolm. "We got the one in the car and killed him in the morgue and got the one in the woods and then we were at the compound."

"Don't forget the one when we first got into town. Well, three of them." Cash added.

"Oh right! Three of them when we got to town." Malcolm corrected. "There were one but two more jumped in. Stupid bastards." Malcolm smiled.

"Did you know that he had hostages!? He is keeping people. Turning them for pleasure. He is a pig and I really want to kill him. Please? Byron?" She turned to the Alpha but didn't look him in the eye. She focused on his shoulder.

"Emma. I know but we have to find him again and that is going to take some time. I feel for those people too. I think you need to take a break. One month. Go somewhere nice."

Byron stood up straight and tall. Big Alpha. "If you disobey this, I will have to kill you. You understand?" He wasn't messing around. He didn't want her to make mistakes and get killed. This was his way of protecting her.

Emma looked at the floor.

"You have this new vampire." His voice was more gentle. "Get answers from her. Kill her if you have to, I don't care. Just collect the information, Emma. Collect. Don't you dare go after York at all. I can't have you die. I would have to train another hunter and I don't have time right now. Stay quiet for now. Go on vacation and give Trevor a break, huh?" Byron winked at Trevor. He could use a vacation also.

"Byron's right. York's in hiding right now anyway. He will resurface and then you can get him. Sometimes, you have to be patient." Trevor pointed out.

He turned to Cash and Malcolm. "She is not a patient person. At all. Not even on a dare or a threat of direct sunlight."

"Trevor." Emma glared at him and turned to the guys. "Oh, Malcolm. This is my brother, Trevor. Trevor, these are...Hawkins." Emma smiled. "Byron McIntyre, The Hawkins. Cash and Malcolm" She just realized that she never introduced Malcolm. Or Byron.

Cash smiled. "No shit! You're Mr. McIntyre!" He stared at Byron. He looked away because he was too intense. Byron didn't disappoint Cash either. "Sorry, you are a legend." He cleared his throat as Byron smiled and nodded. That was the normal response from people. He intimidated people.

Cash turned to Trevor. "Our dad tried to set our sister, Eve, up with the oldest...I can't remember his name."

"Tucker?" Cash asked.

"Yes. Sorry. That was a long time ago. How is Tucker and how did you guys get here?" Trevor sat with coffee. The conversation went on about the two families while Malcolm tuned them out.

Byron finally sat. Malcolm looked at him. He had dark eyes but Malcolm didn't think they were black but they were dark. He had thick eyelashes and a very nice smile.

His eyes lit up when he smiled or told people what to do. Malcolm knew he loved to boss people around but he was the Alpha. He admired the way Byron rolled his eyes, it made him want to laugh every time.

Malcolm just wanted to look at him all night. That was one hot werewolf. His hands were resting on the table, clasped together and Malcolm noticed that his fingers were long. He had nice hands.

His arms were the size of trees, well, they were very nice. He was very well defined, even through his shirt, Malcolm could tell that there was a lot of muscles. He looked at the t-shirt that was stretched across his chest. That was a lot of toned muscles.

He had a dark, well maintained beard. Malcolm wasn't a big fan of beards but Byron made it work. The beard was hot on him. Malcolm decided that Byron should be the spokesman for men with beards.

He had great hair. It was dark like his beard but it had streaks of silver through it and he kept it long. His hair had large pretty wavy curls that any woman would be jealous of.

It was just past his shoulders. He had the top half pulled back with a leather string that dangled but it looked manly on him and Malcolm was trying to figure out how. Malcolm bet it was really soft to touch and then cursed himself.

Byron could feel eyes on him and curiosity made him look up. He made eye contact with Malcolm. Malcolm had very pretty blue eyes. Byron was surprised that Malcolm didn't look away because most people didn't hold his gaze. No one held his gaze.

He had a very commanding presence and most people were uncomfortable staring at him like this guy was. He was tall and lean. Byron could tell he could run fast. He was a runner. Sprinter.

His eyes cruised down Malcolm's legs to his boots and back up. He decided what the hell, and ogled him some more. He was built and fit. His torso was long and lean but muscled.

He was very pretty for a guy. Malcolm looked very hot in his battle gear. Very sexy, actually.

Byron shook that thought. What was that? Did he just think a guy looked sexy? He was checking this hunter out and not for any reason other than for his enjoyment.

He shouldn't worry too much; he thought that Adam was hot also. Nothing to worry about there.

Malcolm was wearing a black shirt and some black pants. He had knives on his legs held by straps that wrapped around both of his thighs. There were two knives on each thigh and two on each boot. The outer knives on his thighs were longer, short swords or daggers. This guy knew how to use a knife and that made him hotter.

Byron almost drooled a little. He let his eyes roam over Malcolm. He had a sword on his back and some vampire blood on his shirt. He hunted last night and he clearly liked it.

Byron kept eye contact and looked at him some more. Malcolm's blonde hair was cut short and had some product in it to keep it spiked up. It was a nice haircut. He smiled at Malcolm and Malcolm cleared his throat and smiled back. He didn't realize he had been staring at Bryon for a while.

Byron wanted to watch him smile. He had a wonderful smile. He looked like he had a secret that he wouldn't share and somehow that was appealing.

"....It's what our dad loves to do and Tucker is making things and experimenting for us. Comes up with crazy things. He just got married last year. We heard about this York guy and wanted to help." Cash was talking.

Oh, people were still talking. Byron just noticed.

"We didn't know about another hunter in the area until we got here and we started hearing rumors. We would have never guessed it was Emma." Cash pointed out.

Malcolm just realized there was a conversation still going on.

Trevor smiled. "Everyone thinks she is a guy and we like to keep it that way. They never suspect vampires either."

"No. That is a surprise. Definitely." Malcolm stared at Trevor. He was trying to get back into the conversation. He was shaking off the weird thoughts about Byron.

"Wait. Beckett? You are the Beckett's? I just realized who you are!" Malcolm said and pointed at Emma and Trevor. Cash stared at his brother.

"They are the ones that wrote the training book that we use! Dr. Warren Beckett." Malcolm fought the urge to look at Byron. He could feel eyes on him and knew Byron was watching him. He got goosebumps.

"Well, that was our dad. Warren Beckett. He wrote that book to help other hunters probably before we were born." Trevor smiled.

"He loved hunting and always said that was how he wanted to die and he did. I was very proud of our dad. He was a good man. A good hunter." Trevor cleared his throat. They never talked about anything.

"Okay. Enough of that." Byron stood up. He hated to think about the friends he lost. He missed Warren like crazy.

"Right. I have a vampire to attend to. She is probably hungry." Trevor sighed. "This is so weird. I will get some information out of her for you, Sir." He looked at Byron. The big guy nodded. He knew Trevor could handle a vampire.

Byron sat back down. He should leave but he was hoping to talk to Malcolm for a while. He was going to test his luck. He enjoyed the look he got from Malcolm and was hoping for another one even though he had no idea why he liked it so much. He didn't want to think about it or that was all he wanted to think about.

"Uh, Emma. Can we talk?" Cash was standing in the kitchen with Malcolm and Bryon. Byron wasn't sure that was a great idea. He looked at Emma and sighed. He knew that look. She was going to talk to him. Alone.

"Sure. Uh, this way. We will be back." Emma looked sad.

"Give us fifteen minutes." Cash requested. He followed Emma to the den.

Malcolm smiled. "We are sending a search party in fifteen minutes." He sat at the table in front of Byron. Byron McIntyre, the legend. He wanted to talk to him or just get his autograph and stare at him.

This was cool. They heard tons of stories about him growing up. Byron was a legend among all of the supernatural people including vampire hunters.

His uncle would read newspaper clippings and tell stories of Byron the Alpha. He was tough and not to be messed with. He watched his brother walk out with a vampire. He sighed. "Life is strange."

Byron smiled. "Yes, it is, Malcolm." Their eyes met. Malcolm was a very attractive guy. Byron stopped at that thought. It kept bouncing around in his head.

Malcolm smiled. "I still can't believe I got to meet you!" He was in heaven right now. This guy was his hero. Byron was very hot. All muscle. His shirt was tight on his body and he wore jeans better than anyone.

Malcolm just realized that he had checked out Byron's ass earlier. He took a deep breath and let his eyes roam freely. This guy had long pretty hair and could never be mistaken for a woman. He was very masculine, even from behind.

What was wrong with him? He shook it off. He was a whore after all and if Byron was a woman, he would have already asked him on a date. He was thinking about it anyway.

"Are you alright, Malcolm?" Byron liked how Malcolm was looking at him.

"I was thinking about asking you out!" Malcolm smiled. "Maybe we could get a beer?"

Byron looked shocked at first and then smiled. Did this guy just ask him out? Byron was surprised that this guy was so brazen. No one asked Byron out. Byron did the asking.

"Sounds good. Where would we go?" He couldn't resist asking. This guy was different from anyone else.

"First date? Uh, Dave's. That steak place on Ninth. I heard the steak there is fantastic." Malcolm thought this was fun. He was very surprised that Byron was humoring him.

"Good choice. I have never been. Maybe we should do that anyway. Steak's always a good choice. Oh, we could share an ice cream and when you got cold, I could warm you up!" Byron's eyes began to glow an amber color. He cleared his throat. What was that? He knew his wolf was interested in Malcolm too.

"I know that trick. It works." Malcolm smiled and watched Bryon's eyes change for just a moment. They went from a dark almost black to a pretty yellowish orange. They were really pretty in either color. "It always works."

He took a breath because that look turned him on. What was wrong with him? He was just the worst person. Wait? Was Byron flirting back?

Byron was staring at him earlier. Was he checking him out? Malcolm shouldn't be shocked, he was checking Byron out.

Byron smiled. "I've never actually used that trick." Malcolm glared at him and Byron shrugged. "What? I'm hot! I don't need tricks. Women think I'm hot." Did he just glare? No one glared at Byron. He liked it.

Malcolm nodded. "Not just women, I'm sure." He shook his head. "Probably some men too."

Byron smiled at Malcolm. He gasped. "Do you really think men think I'm hot!"

"Trust me when I say yes. Look at you! Men find you attractive, Byron." Malcolm found him attractive. He was a hot man.

"Do you find me attractive, Malcolm?" Byron stared at Malcolm.

Malcolm turned red and laughed. "Of course! Look at you! No one ever wore jeans that well. I thought I was hot but I'm good looking at best. You are a twenty!"

Byron smiled. "Really? A twenty out of how many?" He liked this banter.

"Out of ten, you are a twenty!" Malcolm smiled.

Byron liked this. "That is a great cheesy line." He held Malcolm's gaze. "You think I have a nice ass?"

Malcolm laughed and looked in Byron's eyes. He had pretty dark eyes. "If you were my boyfriend, that is where my hand would be!" Byron did have a nice ass.

"I will keep that in mind, Malcolm! I'm flattered." Byron was flattered that this guy thought he was hot. "If you were my boyfriend, I would take you to that steakhouse." Was he flirting with a guy? Malcolm wasn't just a guy, he was hot and he never looked away. He actually held eye contact. It was a nice change for Byron. It was a huge turn on.

"Sounds like a nice time. Better than most of my dates, although they usually end up in bed." Malcolm was proud of the girls he dated. "The girls never eat or they get a salad. It would be nice to sit with someone that eats."

"Sounds like fun. Maybe we should go out. Sounds better than most dates I've been on too!" Byron smiled and wondered if they would end up in bed and shook his head.

"Pick a day and time and pick me up." Malcolm looked at Byron and shrugged. "What? Steak and beer sounds wonderful and hanging out with you would be the best part of the night. You could tell me some war stories. I would love to hear them coming from you!"

"You need a woman!" Byron laughed and Malcolm agreed.

"Maybe we should check on the lovers?" Malcolm lost track of time and hated to end this conversation. However, it was getting too weird and Malcolm really enjoyed it. Was he really flirting with a man? Byron wasn't a man though. He was a god or something. He had to be. No man looked like that.
