First HalfEmma

First Half

Emma was armed and ready. She could smell them. "They're coming." She said into her comm device in her ear. Her brother, Trevor, was on the other end. He never left her alone in the field.

The vampires that killed people in a small town nearby were heading her way. Emma could smell them. They smelled rotten, that was the only way she could describe them.

Not all vampires were bad but these were. It was a choice. Every day. These vampires just fed off of humans and smelled of death. Emma hated that smell. She may be a vampire now but she couldn't kill people and didn't understand vampires that chose it.

Emma hated them. They made all vampires look bad and because of these bastards, she had to hide all the time. The only one that knew about her was Trevor. She was keeping it that way.

"Be careful out there." Trevor stated the obvious.

Emma smiled. "Maybe I don't want to this time. Maybe I want to kill them as recklessly as possible! Have you ever thought of that, Trevor?"

Trevor laughed. "Okay. Just be careful...as recklessly as possible then. You're not invincible you know."

"I know. Just relax, put your feet up and smoke your pipe, old man." Emma teased. She knew that would get to him.

"Old man! Not funny, Emma." Trevor glared at the sword he was sharpening. "I should have gone with you so I could kill you myself!" He smiled.

Emma laughed. "You could try." She teased and charged the group. Trevor wished he could see her. There were ten or fifteen vampires or something like that, she wasn't counting and they were wild on blood right now.

They couldn't smell Emma past the blood they spilled. She had the advantage but they were still tough. Ten against one wasn't great odds.

Trevor heard the fighting and grunting. He heard her curse and some shuffling. He had to keep quiet. Emma didn't need chatter right now. He held his breath and waited.

Emma charged the group and took out three and was fighting the fourth before they knew they were being attacked. Emma loved this. She dodged and punched the next two vampires and killed another.

They were sluggish because they just gorged themselves on people. She would report the incident in the town as soon as she was done. Trevor probably already did. She needed to get this done and get out.

She sliced the second to last on with her sword and he stumbled back as the last one attacked. She held that one and watched the one get away. She wouldn't catch him.

"Damn it!" Emma cursed.

"You okay?" Trevor was worried.

"Yes. One got away. Hold on." Emma pointed out as she pulled her sword out of the last vampire. "You are going to tell me what I want to know." She demanded. He was on the ground with Emma on him and her sword on his neck. "All I have to do is apply pressure."

The vampire laughed and shook his head. "You're a woman?" He had no idea.

"Who is your boss? What does he want here?" Emma was going to get information from him if she had to cut it out of him.

"York. His name is York! He wants control of this place." The vampire offered the information freely. "He's heard of you. He doesn't know you're a woman but he wants you."

"Why?"

The vampire laughed. "I'm sure you have an imagination." He laughed. He was very drunk on blood.

"York? Where can I find him?" She pushed the sword a little farther. Harder. "Where is he? Tell me or I will put this sword back where I pulled it from." Emma was ready to kill this thing.

He laughed. "I can't tell you! He is around though. Waiting for you to find him. He knows you will find him. He knows a lot of things but he doesn't know you are one of us. He doesn't know you are a vampire too! He will be surprised. One of us is hunting us. He won't see that coming!"

"What does he want here? What is he up to?"

The vampire coughed. "He wanted to build an army and get rid of his enemies. He is building an army, be careful. He is tricky and ruthless. You have to kill me now! He will kill me worse later. I would rather die at your hand."

Emma cut off his head. She was done talking to him. The authorities would find this.

"You okay?" Trevor was always afraid to ask.

"Yes. Now, what were you saying?" Emma forgot what they were talking about. She had things to think about.

"You said that one got away. You let one get away? You are getting sloppy in your old age!" Trevor teased.

Emma glared into the woods. He was gone. "Shut up. Did you call this in?"

"Yes. You have seven minutes to get out." Trevor warned her. "Did he see your face?" There was a pause. "Emma?"

"No. No. Everything is covered. He didn't see me but now they may know that I'm one of them or he will think he hallucinated. They drank a lot of blood, Trevor. Those poor people!"

Trevor sighed into the comm. "I know. I don't know what will come of this. They will know that you are a hunter, at least. I hope they don't know you are a woman." Emma was strong and got mistaken for a man a lot.

She was okay with that for now. There was a bad guy out there that didn't need to know her secrets. From the things she was hearing, this new guy in town, York, was very bad.
