Dates
It was late afternoon when Cash crawled out of bed. He needed that rest. They slept all day and he went for coffee. Lots of coffee. Eggs. He wanted eggs. He started cooking when Malcolm bounced down the stairs.
"Good morning!" He was always happy.
Cash growled. "Morning. Eggs."
"Toast?" Malcolm wanted toast and Eggs.
"Make it yourself! You aren't broken and I'm not your maid. You have socks in the hall!" Cash glared at his brother. "How are we related?"
"I don't know. Hey, at least it was just socks in the hall. I could have been with a woman and taken all of my clothes off in the hall!" Malcolm pointed out that it could be worse.
"I know." Cash sighed. He had seen that before, a number of times. Those nights...Cash went for a long walk. "A little warning next time."
Malcolm glanced out the window. "Hey, did you know that there are friends down there, just past the trees."
"Yes. I saw them. They are watching right now. Scouting. Let them. We won't stay here much longer." Cash was casual.
"Right. Just checking." Malcolm made toast and they ate in silence. "I'm going out tonight. Just thought I would warn you." He shrugged. "I got an invitation to a party. You know that ritzy place on thirtieth. Uh, The Daisy or something?"
"Dahlia. Yes. Nice place." Cash sighed. "I'm not going."
"Cash, I wasn't inviting you! I have a date. Remember that hot chick at the gas station! I helped her pump her gas. Hot girl. Her." Malcolm smiled.
"How do you get these invitations?" Cash was curious.
"I have charisma! People like me and it's a gift that I love. Candy gave it to me." Malcolm smiled at her name. "She texted me last night and yes, her name is Candy. I'm going to find out what kind of candy..." Malcolm smiled and winked.
"Dude! Don't finish that sentence. Please. Gross. I don't want any details, just stay safe. We do have friends watching. It's just two but I bet there are more just out of sight." Cash looked toward the window. That is what he would do.
"I know. It's not my first day on the job. I have to get ready. She is meeting me for drinks first. I know the rules." Malcolm promised. He would keep his phone on and wear the right cologne.
They had a cologne that their brother made. It covered their hunter scent. Tucker was talented. Malcolm never asked what was in it because he was afraid it was some animal's urine. He didn't want that information. He was off to get lucky with Candy!
Cash groaned. He had to find something to do tonight. His thoughts immediately went to the pretty doctor. Dr. Beckett. He wondered if she worked.
He got ready. He dressed casual and made sure to put on a nice, clean black t-shirt. Emma seemed to like that. Cash smiled. He saw the look she gave him. It was on repeat. He dreamed about her too. He wanted to see her again.
Cash drove to the morgue. He was picking up a woman at the morgue. Not everyone could say that! Malcolm never hit on a woman in a morgue. That was one for Cash. He smiled. He could smell Emma and the vampire. That stench didn't want to leave. He pushed the doorbell.
This was the last time that Emma volunteered to cover for someone else. She was tired of working other people's shifts. Someone else was taking the next one. Night shift was boring.
Emma kept seeing Hottie, the vampire hunter, wink at her. She watched Cash, the Hottie's name was Cash. She watched him work and swing his sword as he chopped off the vampire's head. He didn't need to practice. She watched his muscles ripple as he swung the sword. She watched his shirt tighten when he took a breath. Emma sighed.
She hadn't touched a person in a very long time but she wanted to touch Cash. She was a little sad and then relieved that she would never see him again. Emma was sad about that. She couldn't wait to have another dream about him though. She was hoping for another dream.
He was literally the man in her dreams. Not everyone had one of those. She was playing solitaire on the computer when the doorbell rang. She wasn't expecting a delivery but who knows. She opened the door and almost screamed. A hunter!
"Dr. Beckett?" Cash smiled. "I didn't mean to startle you. Hi." He looked at her. She was so pretty.
"Oh. Hi. Uh, can I help you?" Emma just stared at him.
"Well, I just...I needed something to do tonight and thought of you. I didn't actually know that you would be working. Here. Tonight." He was stupid.
Emma smiled. "I don't usually work nights. I am filling in again. I'm stupid. I prefer the day shift but here I am again. Do you want to come in?" She needed to close the door.
"Oh, right. I'm blocking the door. Uh, is it okay? I don't want to get you fired." Cash smiled.
Hottie was here? Why? Was he going to kill her? He didn't look armed but she knew hunters were always armed. Hell, she was armed out of habit.
"Won't get fired. Come in." Emma let him pass her. He smelled so good. Keep yourself together, she told herself and repeated it. She had been around men before. Even hot men. She could talk to him without melting.
"My office. Well, we all share it. Sit, please." She sat at the desk and was worried. Cash was between her and the door. There was a window in the wall, she could jump through. She could get out if she needed to.
The window was there so the doctor could always see the exam tables. Everything was in sight. "How can I help you?" She couldn't think of why he was here.
"Actually, I just...Malcolm went on a date and I didn't want to be home when he got there. I thought about you and here I am. I have no idea!" Cash sighed and he was embarrassed now. What was he doing?
"Uh...oh." Emma stared at him and looked down at the floor. She would have blushed if she was human. Shit. She wasn't human and he was a hunter. Trevor would kill her. She was speechless. What was she supposed to say?
Something. Anything. Nothing was coming to mind. Great. Just keep looking down, that was helping! She took a breath and looked up. "Oh, thanks for the flowers."
Cash smiled. "Welcome." He looked around. They weren't here. "Uh, you throw them out?"
"No." Emma laughed. "I took them home." She inhaled and stopped talking. "It's just that...I wasn't working the rest of the week and wanted to see them before they died. They were pretty. They are pretty. I put them on my desk at home." Emma looked at the door and then down again.
"Oh." She loved the flowers. He was thinking about sending her more. She was pretty and he loved the way she looked down like she was embarrassed. He almost moaned. "Am I keeping you from something?" She kept looking at the door.
"No. Nothing like that. I..." Emma should leave... or make him leave. Right? She was working, he would have to leave. Duh!
"Sorry. You probably have a husband or a guy or something. I didn't...I should have guessed you were seeing someone. Of course you are. I mean look at you..." Cash stopped "Sorry!" He covered his mouth to shut himself up.
Emma laughed. "You're fine. I'm flattered really but no. I'm not seeing anyone. I'm just terrible with people. It's why I work in a morgue with dead people."
"Oh, so you're free for dinner?" Cash hated himself. "Sorry. I have no idea why I am here. I can't stop thinking about you."
Emma smiled. She kept having dreams about him. "I was playing solitaire on the computer, thinking about you." She admitted and shouldn't have.
Cash looked surprised. "Really!"
Emma nodded. "Yes." She covered her face. She really shouldn't have said that. "Sorry. I'm stupid. Cash, right?"
"Yes. Dr. Beckett. I don't know your first name!" Cash smiled.
"Oh my gosh! Emma. I'm Emma." She looked at him in his eyes. She stopped moving and breathing. He is perfect. He is a hunter. Get him out of your office! Her responsible self was yelling at her. That part had Trevor's voice.
Cash just looked at her. Emma. She was beautiful. There was something about her that he couldn't quite place. He liked her though. She seemed familiar. He just wanted to talk to her more. He loved the sound of her voice.
This was crazy. He ran his hand through his hair and looked at the floor and back to Emma. He smiled. She smiled. They were just staring at each other now. Damn it. He should say something.
The doorbell rang. Emma jerked up. "Uh, excuse me." She almost ran to the door. Shit! Trevor. "Thought I would visit you while I was out getting groceries." Trevor walked in.
"Okay. You saw me. Time to go!" Emma panicked and knew that Trevor would know something was up.
"What?" Trevor stared at his sister.
"Nothing. Nothing is happening. Nothing new. Just working. Staying out of trouble." Emma said too fast. She was trying to shove him out the door.
"Who's here?" Trevor smelled someone. He stormed past her to her office. A man was sitting at the desk. He stood up. They were the same height. "Who are you?"
Cash just stared. Was this a boyfriend? "Cash. You are?"
"I am Emma's brother. I try to keep her from doing stupid things but I am failing recently!" Trevor glared at Emma. "Cash? This guy sent you flowers?" This was the hunter. He looked at her. Had she lost her mind?
"We are talking about this at length when you get home. If you make it home! I have food to buy. Emma." Trevor stormed out. That was a warning to Emma. She heard the door close.
"What in the hell was that?" Cash looked at Emma. She looked worried. "Over protective brother?"
"Well. Not really. Not usually. I'm being stupid lately. I can't seem to make good decisions. There is a lot I can't tell you but maybe you should...go." Emma looked at him. He was so...she took a step closer to him. "Sorry about him. Really."
Cash took a step closer. "He doesn't like me huh?"
"No. It's really not you. I am stupid. Really, it's me he doesn't like right now. This isn't some weird sibling thing. He looks out for me. He tries. Being here with you is stupid. I don't...date. Or anything. I should go." Emma forgot where she was.
"Your office. I should go." He had to walk past her. He stepped closer and she should have wanted to walk away. Damn. He touched her hair. It was pretty and soft.
"Uh, how about dinner first." Emma looked at Cash. She didn't want him to go yet.
"Pizza?" He smiled. Emma just nodded. Cash touched her cheek. She was cold but so was he. "I'll buy if you call."
"Okay." Emma inched closer to his face. She looked at his lips. She wanted to taste him so bad. Kiss him. Lick him. Her stomach growled. She could kill him. She didn't want to.
"Pizza." Cash said as a reminder but he didn't move. His hand wouldn't move from her face. He sighed and kissed her. He didn't want to stop it. It was fantastic.
She wrapped her arms around him and moaned. Her hands were in his hair. That wasn't helping. He pulled her to him and wrapped his arms around the small of her back and he couldn't help but sigh. She banged into the wall and they both laughed. She slid her tongue in his mouth. Oh, this was heaven.
He wanted to be a slut right now. Could men be sluts? He was going to try out for it. He knew her last name which was more than Malcolm knew most of the time and at least he met Emma's brother! Score. Malcolm never met anyone's family. He never wanted to. Cash met Emma's brother so this was okay.
Emma had to slow this down or she was clearing off the desk! She kissed him and slowly sucked on his bottom lip. That wasn't helping because he moaned.
"Damn! I liked that!" Cash sighed. He was really hoping that the kiss would have been nothing and he wouldn't like her so much. He was wrong.
Emma looked at him and smiled. "Me too." Cash pulled her close and kissed her and sucked on her lip this time. He really liked that. She moaned. She liked that as well. He kissed her again. He wanted to kiss her all night.
"Pizza!" Emma had to let him go or at least make some space. Trevor was going to kill her.
"Right." Cash backed up. "Sorry about that. I have no idea what happened! I feel possessed! I have never done anything close to this."
Emma laughed. "Me either. I know that my brother is freaking out." She sat at her desk and took a breath. She hit the number three button and it dialed the pizza place two blocks down. They delivered a lot. "Pepperoni?"
Cash nodded. "Whatever!" He wasn't picky and he was re-living that kiss. He watched her order pizza.
"Ten minutes." Emma smiled. "Sorry about that kiss. I never do that!"
"Me either. I liked it though." Cash admitted and smiled.
Emma smiled and looked down. "Me too. Well, I think there are plates in the kitchen."
"There is a kitchen? I have never been in a morgue before." Cash pointed out.
"Oh. Yes, well, most people haven't. Alive anyway. Sorry, that is morbid!" Emma heard Cash chuckle. "Can I give you a tour?"
"Love one."
Emma nodded. That was stupid because it was the office they were in, the large area with three examining tables and the kitchen on the opposite side. It wasn't complicated.
"Tables are here. Clearly. Coolers and no, there is no one in there right now. The kitchen is here. Okay. Nothing fantastic. Oh bathroom is there." She pointed to a door marked with a unisex sign. "Plates." She got them from the cupboard and found some napkins.
She could do this. She had never done this but she knew that vampires could eat food. She was hoping not to throw up. The doorbell rang and Emma opened it. Cash was there with money and gave him extra for the tip.
"Thanks." Cash said and winked at the pizza guy. The guy smiled and nodded. The pizza guy just thought that Cash was going to get lucky in a morgue. Not boring. Probably not happening but he was hopeful. Since when had he become Malcolm!
They dug in and they were quiet. "This is good pizza." He ate half the pizza and Emma barely ate one slice. She hoped it stayed down. "You okay?"
"Oh, yes. I'm not that hungry. You eat. One slice is plenty for me." Emma reassured him. "Oh. I am such a slut. What is your last name? I don't know your last name!"
Cash laughed. "Hawkins."
Emma smiled. She knew of the Hawkins family. Her father had tried set Eve up with the oldest...What was his name? Tucker. Yes. She sighed.
This was stupid and she should definitely kick him out and never see him and was already thinking about giving him her number. She hated herself. She couldn't be honest and he was going to figure this out soon. What was she doing? She covered her face.
Cash bent in front of her. "Hey. You okay?" He touched her hands.
"No. I'm not. I am definitely not. I should have kicked you out of here and Trevor is going to have a cow!" Emma laughed and let Cash take her hands.
He kissed her. She melted and he sighed. He pulled her to the floor and she removed his shirt. What was she doing! She touched him and kissed his chest.
She saw the tattoo on his shoulder. It was a vampires hunter symbol. Their family crest. It was a bow and arrow with tribal symbols around it. Usually it spelled out the last name of the family. It was pretty. She touched it and ran her hand to his back.
He flipped her to the bottom. She was surrounded by muscle. Hunter muscle. He would kill her...maybe. He took her lab coat off and then her top. Her bra was pretty. Black and lacy. He kissed her mouth again and groaned.
"I hate myself but we should put our shirts back on!" Cash really hated himself. He touched her bra. "This is nice!" He kissed each breast. He dragged his tongue up her neck and nibbled her ear. "Nice."
"Thanks." Her hands slid up his body and back down. He was so hard. Everywhere. "Okay. We should stop now!" She kissed him. They both groaned.
"Okay!" Cash stood up and pulled Emma up. "Right." He wrapped his arms around her.
She felt so great. He loved touching her. He was beginning to understand why Malcolm was a whore. He would be her whore! He groaned and pulled away. "Sorry."
"Me too." Shit! She was freaking out. "Uh, Shirt!" She handed him his shirt and put her top back on. Lab coat. Good. She was good. Totally normal. Just making out with a vampire hunter. Right. She took a deep breath. His body felt so great.
Cash laughed. "I wasn't planning that!" He never made out with a woman on a kitchen floor in a morgue. He kinda wanted to take a picture to prove this to Malcolm later. "You okay?"
Emma laughed. No, she was not okay! "Yes. Fine. Well, sort of. I don't know what that was either! I hadn't planned that either. I should have kicked you out by now."
"I was expecting to be kicked out but then there was pizza and kissing. I loved it. Maybe we can do this again soon?" Cash wanted to see her again.
"Which part? The pizza or the making out on the floor!" Emma regretted that immediately.
Cash chuckled. "Do I have a choice? I wouldn't choose the pizza." He winked at her.
Emma shook her head and looked down. Oh my gosh! She would so make out with him again. She had to stop. What would Trevor say? He would have killed the hunter a long time ago. Kill the hunter before the hunter killed him.
Trevor would be smart. Emma was not Trevor. "Maybe we could go see a movie or something?"
Cash looked surprised. "Really? Oh, Emma. I would love to see a movie with you. Sit in the back and make out. Miss the whole movie!" He smiled.
"I would love to not see a movie with you." Emma smiled. "Can't tell my brother though. He will kill me! He won't understand any of this." Probably shoot her with that pellet gun he was working on.
"He hates me! Is there something I can do about that?" Cash was curious.
"No. Really. I promise that it's me and not you. I am the problem. I have issues that I don't really want to talk about. I don't date or anything."
"I work a lot. I have weird hours and that makes doing anything else tough. I actually prefer it that way. I have no idea what this is with you. I have to tell you that I am freaking out just a little. A lot!" Emma reassured him.
Cash didn't wait. He pulled her to him and touched her face. She was beautiful. He put his hand around to the back of her neck and gently pulled her to him.
His mouth was on hers. Emma melted into Cash. He moaned. She tasted so great. She touched his chest and let her hands roam all of his body. All she wanted to do was be naked with him. What was her problem? A phone was buzzing. Cash let go.
"Sorry. Malcolm. Hold on to that thought." Cash just looked at her soft eyes and swollen lips. He was coming back to that! "What?" He said into the phone.
"I was just making sure you were okay! Where are you? I figured you would be home by now. Coast is clear." Malcolm smiled.
"Oh. Right. I'm out. Still." Cash smiled at Emma. She covered her mouth. "How was the party? What time is it?"
"Time to go hunting! It's almost sunrise. What are you doing?" Malcolm was full of questions right now. Cash always knew what time it was. He was always ready to hunt. "The party was great. Candy was delicious and she left like half an hour ago. The usual. Where are you? I can pick you up."
"Uh. No. I have the car. I will pick you up. I, uh, give me like twenty minutes." Cash sighed. "Thirty minutes." He looked at Emma. He spent the night with her, mostly talking.
"Where are you?" Malcolm sounded suspicious.
Cash actually turned red. "Nowhere. We will talk later."
"Oh, you went to see that hot doctor! Sweet. You have to give me details. I hope you did something interesting and didn't talk about work stuff all night. Knowing you, you probably talked about embalming fluid and the process of decay or something. Maybe you shouldn't tell me, I will just be disappointed!" Malcolm smiled.
Cash chuckled. "I promise we didn't talk about embalming or decay. Mostly. I am coming. Bye." He looked at Emma. "I have to go. Work is calling and it sounds like my annoying brother. Can I give you my number? You can call me when you want. We can talk."
Emma smiled. "I would love that." She handed her phone to Cash and he entered his number. She made sure it was saved. She texted him. He had her number.
Cash smiled. He touched her face and kiss her gently. He was going for a small kiss but it got hot fast. They were wrapped together and he was thinking about taking her clothes.
Emma moaned. She was ready to take his clothes off and oh, she wanted to be naked with him. His tongue felt so great in her mouth. They slowly broke apart and Emma took a deep breath.
"Thanks for a lovely night, Emma. I hate to but I have to go. I will talk to you later." Cash headed to the door. Emma followed. Her shift was almost over. Cash kissed her gently. "Talk soon."
"Be safe." Emma smiled.
Cash sighed. He didn't know how he walked to his car. His legs felt disconnected. He felt like he was made of air. He knew he was answering a thousand questions. He was so happy.
Trevor tackled Emma at the door when she walked in. "What in the hell, Emma!? What are you trying to do give me a heart attack!"
"Yes. I'm trying to kill you!" She sounded sarcastic on purpose. "Clearly, I am suicidal and have a death wish. I don't know. We talked for hours. It was easily the best night ever. I don't need lectured. I know, Trevor, I know. I'm not an idiot!" Emma was an idiot.
"Are you okay? I was shocked when I walked in and there was a hunter there. A vampire hunter in my vampire sister's office. I thought he was there to kill you at first. What was that? What did he want?" Trevor was worried.
"Uh. Nothing. We just talked." Emma looked at the floor.
"Just talked? What is that look? What happened? Did he try to kill you?" Trevor was worried. "Was he warning you? Did he threaten you?"
Emma smiled. "No. We talked. Just talked." We made out on the kitchen floor! "I have work to do."
"You smell like him. I can smell him on you. How close was he? Did you hug him? Please say you were wrestling for a sword to kill him." Trevor looked worried.
"Uh, sure. Let's go with that. I gave him my phone number." Emma wanted to leave the room. "We made out on the kitchen floor and I gotta tell you, he is the best kisser!"
Trevor glared. "That isn't funny, Emma! Just be careful. I don't want to go to your funeral yet." He didn't believe her. Emma would never randomly kiss a guy. Never.
"You need to do some scouting. Find that York character. He is going to be a problem. I was doing some research and found a little on this York guy and I think I might know where he is or the general location. I talked to Byron and he agreed."
Emma smiled like it was Christmas. "Oh, work. Wonderful! Okay. Let me get ready. I know a few places to search too." She ran to her room to shower and change.
Time to hunt. She loved to hunt. When she was out there, she could be a vampire. She could move and hunt the way she was meant to. Hunting was what she did best.
