Chapter Five
When she reached Scotland Yard, Lily quickly paid the cabbie and walked into the building. A security guard tried to stop her from continuing to the offices. "I'm here t' see D.I. Lestrade. I'm Sherlock Holmes' daughter, and I was called here on an urgent matter, so if you try t' stop me you'll have t' answer to the Detective Inspector," she says calmly. The guard looked confused for a moment before letting her pass.
As she reaches the D.I.'s office, she can see a small group of familiar faces gathered inside. Both of Lily's parents, Molly and Sherlock Holmes; Philip Anderson, Scotland Yard Forensics; Sergeant police officer, Sally Donovan; Doctor John Watson, Lillian's godfather; Detective Inspector, Greg Lestrade; and most surprisingly, Lily's uncle, Mycroft Holmes. Lily walked into the room and set her bookbag down, before turning to face everyone. All eyes were on her.
"Um... 'Ello," she greets them, windering why they were all staring at her. "Uncle, nice t' see you. Found your way out of your fortified hidey-hole, have you? And Donovan, did you do something different with your hair?" she says sarcastically. "It looks... pouffier than normal," she adds.
Donovan rolls her eyes, more dramatically than nessacary and, Mycroft purses his lips as Sherlock smirks. John holds back a chuckle and Lestrade does chuckle. Anderson sighed in boredom and annoyance as Molly gave Lily a disapproving look.
"So... why am I here, exactly? You said you'd explain," Lily asks, turning to Sherlock.
"Ah, yes, well... Mycroft is actually going to inform you of what's going on," he says, placing his hands behind his back and straightening up.
She turns around to face her uncle. "Well?" she presses, raising an eyebrow.
"There's been a murder," he says nonchalantly.
"And what's that got t' do with me?"
"I want you to solve it," he replies simply.
"What? Me? Why me?" she asks. 'Finally! All that practicing with Dad is finally going to pay off. I get to work a case!' she thinks happily. "And why are all of you here?"
"You're intuitiveness and attention to detail has improved greatly, Lily. I thought it might be time for you to start putting it to good use," Sherlock explains. The corners of his mouth were turned up slightly, a small smile of pride peaking out. "We believe this is a serial killer, and I would like your help," he adds.
"You're asking me... 'cause you need my help? Really?" she questions in disbelief.
"I said I would like your help, not that I needed it," he clarifies.
"I still say it's a bad idea," Donovan interjects. Anderson nods in agreement.
"Well, I think it's a great idea," John retorts, shrugging. "Put her talents to good use."
Sherlock turns to Lily, a full smile now gracing his face. "Well?"
Lillian thinks for a moment before replying, "The game... is on."
