EPILOGUE: A little miracle
The night had only just started to fall and the weak rays of sunlight were still shining inside the house. Yet when Andrew opened the door to his bedroom, he was met with total darkness. The curtains were closed so that no light would enter and sleeping would be easy.
He silently walked inside and closed the door, keeping the heath the fireplace produced inside the room. He walked to the end of the bed, and looked inside at the sleeping form of his wife.
"There is your mother," he whispered to the little girl in his arms. She had her eyes closed and her hands in fists, but she moved her arms, seemingly trying to catch the voice of her father. "But we must be quiet, for she is sleeping, and she is very tired after giving you to us."
He caressed her little belly, making her eyelids flutter open. He gave her his finger, and her little hand held on tight to it. He could not help but smile at the little miracle in his arms.
His eyes found their way back to his sleeping wife on the bed, and he stared at her. What more could a man want in his life than a kind wife and a healthy daughter? More children, mayhap, but he was so happy at the moment that he just wanted to enjoy it.
With the little girl still in his arms, he walked closer to the bed and lifted the covers. Slipping under them and placing his daughter in between her mother and father, made Victoria wake up, but not completely.
"Andrew?" she asked sleepily. Her hand appeared from under the covers as she felt what was right in front of her. "Alice?"
Andrew smiled at the sound of his daughter's name. "She wanted to sleep here."
Vicky gave him a sleepy smile. "Did she, or do you?"
Andrew laughed softly, but did not answer. Alice was merely a day old, so she could not have told him she wanted to sleep with her parents. But Andrew did not want to her to spend her first night alone, so he allowed her to sleep in their bed. Yet he could not promise it would stay with just one night.
He looked over little Alice at Vicky, but her eyes were closed again and her breathing slowed down. She was so tired, she had already fallen asleep again.
Andrew could not help but smile when he saw his two favourite women so close to him. He would treasure both forever.
He bend down over Alice so that his words would not wake up Vicky. His whispers were not answered, but he could feel the love that filled the room. "Your mother is gorgeous, is she not? No wonder you are too."
