You'd never felt more humiliated in your life as you sat there, alone in a restaurant waiting on your date. You'd been there for twenty minutes already, feeling as though the entire restaurant's eyes were on you, even though they weren't, but you couldn't help but feel like you were being judged for having been stood up.

You had no idea why you even agreed to go out with this guy again, not when he'd been fifteen minutes late last time, and you could have sworn he smelled like perfume. You wished you'd listened to your gut when it told you to ditch this guy, as did the guys back at fifty-one who said time and time again that he wasn't good for you, but unfortunately you'd refused to listen and now you were paying the price.

Pushing from the table you stood up, having waited long enough for your date as you were beginning to get not only bored, but pissed off as well. You told the hostess you were leaving, even tipped the restaurant for the trouble before you left, feeling the relief soak into your body as you stepped outside into the crisp, cool night air.

You took a deep breath, thinking about what to say in the not so friendly text message you were going to send your date. Your ex date, you should say. You felt your shoulders relax when the message changed from sent to delivered, and once it did you didn't even wait on a reply before you locked your phone, tucking it safely into your pocket as you began to walk down the street.

The gentle breeze was relaxing, a welcome comfort after being in the relatively warm restaurant, where you hadn't even been able to eat and because of that you were now starving. You glanced around you as you walked, looking for somewhere you could stop in to grab some food before you headed home, looking forward to crawling into your pyjamas and watching the newest episode of your favourite TV show.

Only, when you rounded the street corner, too busy looking for a take-out place to bother paying attention, you bumped straight into a rather familiar, and rather welcome, face.

"Oof." You breathed out, your body colliding with that of your fellow colleague, who you'd never have expected to see tonight. Your eyes flicked up, your smile widening when you spotted that signature moustache above his lip. "Otis... Hey. Fancy bumping into you here." You said with a chuckle, feeling a touch embarrassed over your lack of spatial awareness.

"Y/N, hey." Otis replied with a smile, one that had your heart flutter beneath your chest. His eyes quickly looked you up and down, taking in the outfit he'd never had the pleasure of seeing before. One he couldn't help but think made you look even prettier than ever. "I- I, uh, I thought you had a date tonight?"

"You and me both." You muttered, rolling your eyes a little as you scoffed, earning a slightly confused look from Otis, his brow furrowing just a touch. "He stood me up."

"Get outta here." Otis said in disbelief, having trouble with the idea that someone would be stupid enough to stand a girl like you up. "You're serious? He stood you up?"

"Yep." You replied with a gentle pop of your lips, your fingers running through your hair as you felt that wave of straight up anger flow through you. You weren't even disappointed. Or upset. You were just pissed that he didn't even have the decency to call you first. "So now I'm wandering around trying to find someplace to eat before my stomach eats itself."

Otis chuckled a little, something you couldn't help but smile at as you always did like hearing him laugh, especially when it was your words that made him do it. Your eyes shifted from his, coming to land upon the burger place just a little ways down the street which had you form an idea, one you wouldn't have been brave enough to on any other given night, but tonight you were annoyed, and because of that, you wanted to spend the rest of it with someone you knew actually enjoyed your company.

"I'm probably gonna stop into that burger place..." You pointed briefly down the street, Otis glancing back towards the red illuminated burger sign that lit up the street. He couldn't help but feel nervous, not when he knew exactly what was going to come out of your mouth next. "...Do you, uh, do you maybe want to join me?"

"You sure you want me there?" Otis said quietly, making your heart warm beneath your chest over his shy nature. And the way he avoided your eyes, as though it would make the disappointment hurt less when you changed your mind. Which you didn't. You'd never change your mind when it came to hanging out with him.

"I'm sure." You nodded, taking his arm as you turned him around, feeling the way he tensed beneath your touch. You brought your other hand up, placing it gently in the crook of his inner arm, a motion that actually made him relax a little as despite how small of a gesture it was, there was something about it that felt so intimate. Whether it was just because it was you, the woman he'd been crushing on for weeks now, or whether it was something else entirely, he had no idea.

All Otis knew was that he was happy to abandon his night of drinking if it meant he got to spend it with you instead. He couldn't quite believe what was happening, but at the same time, he couldn't help but feel like he'd just gotten extremely lucky. And to his surprise, even though he knew it was no fun thing, he was glad that you'd gotten stood up, as if you hadn't, he might have never gotten this chance.

"And besides..." You began, the two of you walking arm in arm down the dimly lit street, the smell of the rain from earlier drifting lightly though the air around you. "I could do with some better company... And it doesn't get any better than you."
