The fire crackled softly, the smokey embers dispersing into the air as you sat next to it, cuddled up against Brian as he held you in his arms. You hadn't really wanted to go camping, not when you'd seen enough movies to know what could go wrong, but when Brian got those big sad, puppy dog eyes he was so good at when you said no, you soon found that you just didn't have the heart to tell him twice.

"This is nice." You hummed, enjoying the circles Brian drew on your waist with his thumb, your head buried in the crook of his neck, breathing in his scent which was quickly masked by that of the miniature bonfire he'd cooked up.

"Oh really, miss 'I don't want to go camping in case a masked killer decides to terrorise me'." Brian teased, mimicking your voice in a way that did not at all sound like you did, which earned him a swift, yet gentle, punch to the chest before you sat up a little straighter.

"I do not sound like that." You protested, frowning at the playful smile he gave you which told him he was thoroughly amused. "And I didn't say those exact words."

"Oh yeah? And what did you say, exactly?" Brian asked, watching as you avoided eye contact, your jaw tensing and he could tell that you were biting your tongue because you didn't want to admit to him that those were indeed the exact words you had said when he asked you.

"Okay fine." You sighed, slumping back against him, looking up at the stars cascading over you both. "So I may have said that... But, I mean it... Sure it's a little creepy, and I'm like 99% sure there's a killer watching us from the trees but it's still nice and I enjoy being able to spend more time with you without worrying about the bells going off. Even if it is in the middle of the woods."

"I enjoy spending time with you too, baby." Brian said softly, kissing the side of your head as he took your hand in his before gazing out at the crackling fire in front of the two of you. "And I promise that the next time I take furlough, you can decide where we go."

"I'll remember that." You warned, tracing circles on his palm with your finger as you felt the warmth of the fire drift towards you, engulfing you both in your own little bubble of heat amidst the crisp, cool forest air. "Because I want to go to Disneyland next time... If we survive this trip that is... I can't help but feel like we're going to get macheted to death."

Brian laughed, his body shaking beneath yours in a way that had you squirm a little and sit up, faking offence over the fact that he was laughing at you and your irrational fear of getting murdered in the woods.

"Don't laugh." You whined, unable to stop yourself from chuckling as you put your finger over his lips, his wide lips that you could still feel his breath escape from in deep puffs, clearing stifling his laughter. "I'm serious... You know how I feel about this kind of stuff."

"You're right. You're right." Brian breathed out, taking the hand you had suspended by his face in his and placing a soft kiss on your ring finger, feeling the coldness of your wedding band against his lips. "I'm sorry... I know you don't really like camping which is why I really appreciate you coming out here with me and if it just so happens that we meet a machete wielding field goalie, I promise you that I won't let him get you."

"Thank you." You said softly, leaning in to kiss him gently, feeling his arms slink around your body. "I really am happy to be here with you... And I'm not that worried about starring in my own version of Friday the 13th, not when I have my big, strong firefighter to keep me safe." You added, running your fingers along either side of his arms.

"God baby, you know what it does to me when you say that." Brian said around a low groan, his hold on you tightening as one hand slowly worked down towards your hip, his fingertips dipping deeper into your flesh.

"Call it payback for laughing at me." You whispered, kissing him with enough heat that it rivalled the fire that flickered in front of you, the one that was currently getting lower as neither of you had added more wood to it. "The fire is getting low... What do you say we head into the tent and create a little heat of our own."

The second the words left your lips, you felt Brian's arm slide underneath your knees and before you could comprehend what was happening, he'd gotten swiftly to his feet and was now holding you bridal style in his arms.

"I like the sound of that." He exhaled, kissing you deeply whilst carefully making his way towards the tent, only just before you both reached it he pulled back, his eyes now wider than they'd been before "Did you hear that?"

"Hear what?" You asked, your heart racing in your chest as you began to look frantically around you, your grip on his shoulders tightening as you began to grow scared.

Only, when you felt his shoulders shaking a little and heard the stifled laughs coming from his semi-swollen lips, you found the fear inside you fade away and replace with just a sliver of annoyance.

"Don't do that!" You exclaimed, punching his chest a little harder than you'd done earlier but not enough to hurt him. His laughs were fully audible now, which only ignited a spark inside you that had you know for certain that once he got you into that tent he'd regret messing with you. He seemed to be forgetting just how easy it was for you to have him begging once you started teasing him.

"I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist." His laughter died down as he used his shoulder to quickly wipe his eyes, which had begun to water over how hard he'd laughed.

"I hate you." You hissed, folding your arms while looking away from him, which only had him hoist you a little higher in his hold to get your attention to fall back onto him, his eyes now softer than they'd been before as he looked lovingly into yours.

"No you don't. You love me." He said, his tone indicating that he needed to hear you say it despite the two of you being married. But he always was worried he'd go too far one day when he'd prank you and the last thing he wanted was to lose you over something so silly.

You leaned in, resting your forehead against his which had him sigh gently in relief. You kissed him softly, assuring him that you still loved him and that you always would despite his frequent practical jokes, something that you would normally hate if they didn't make him smile so much and get all excited in a way that had your heart flutter immensely, so much so that it clouded whatever reaction you might have had to the actual prank.

"You're right, I do love you... Which is why I want you to take me into that tent so I can show you just how much I do."
