Chapter 8: A New Beginning

I struggle to open my eyes. The colour of the blurry walls are a warm tone but they are washed out by the lights in the room. I can feel my head thump as if someone is constantly drumming on it. I try to get comfortable, turning to my side, but wince at the pain.

"Ah. You're awake." A feminine voice says.

I turn to the other side to look at who is speaking. A woman with brown hair and light brown eyes sits at the foot of my bed in a chair smiling at me.

"Hi." She lifts a hand to wave at me.

"Um.. hello." I hoarsely say.

"There is water if you need it." She pours me a glass and hands it to me. I struggle to sit up but manage to do so.

"Thank you." I take it from her, swallow it in one gulp, then hand it back to her.

She nods and smiles while sitting back in her chair, "How do you feel?"

I sigh, "Despite every part of me hurting and the splitting headache I have received from ramming my head into a tree; this day could be a lot worse."

She chuckled a little. Silence follows as I look around at my surroundings, avoiding eye contact with the woman. She nervously pats her legs as she looks around herself.

"You must forgive him." She began. I stare at her blankly. "Our warrior, Jason, who attacked you." She continues awkwardly.

"I'm amazed I still remember that." I say.

"He has an issue with rogues- probably hates them more than anyone else here. He attacks first and asks questions later, its always like that with him..."

"Well, you must thank him for the terrific beating then." I say as I roll my eyes, looking down at the bedsheets.

"He wishes to apologize." She blurts out. "H-He has never done that before..."

"Why did he decided to start now?" I ask.

"I don't know." She answers. "You may see him before you go meet our Alpha."

I look up, "The Alpha wants to see me?"

"Our Alpha likes to meet all that enter his land." She smiles. "Come, I will show you to Jason."

I cautiously get out of the bed and make my way over to the door. I glide my hand over my head and feel a bandage. I press my other hand on the wall, using it to guide me.

The woman stays by my side as she walks with me through the hallway.

"Afterwards I can send for our doctor to take a look at you." She says.

"I'll be fine..."

"I am just being careful." We stop in front of one of the doors.

"My name is Alice by the way." She smiles. "I am the Alpha Female here."

I nod. "Thank you for your kindness."

She continues to smile at me and knocks on the door. A man, I assume to be Jason, opens the door almost instantly.

"Hi, Jason." She greets.

"Alpha..."

Alice then turns to me and pats my shoulder, "I will see you around."

I smile at her as she then walks away leaving me standing here alone with Jason. After a few seconds, Jason moves over to allow me entrances. I slowly walk in, eyeing my surroundings.

"Nice room." I say.

"Thank yo-"

"Let's get this over with." I interrupt, turning to face him. "Why do you want to apologize to me?"

He shrugs, "I guess I felt bad..."

"Huh. According to Alice, you don't really feel bad about anything, especially beating up rogues."

"You provoked me!" He yells. "Because of you, I'll be smelling like maple tree sap for weeks!"

"Maybe the syrup thing was a bit much." I give a small smile.

Jason leans against the wall and crosses his arms over his chest, "Look, I apologized to you alright?"

"Mhmm, you really didn't." I point out, crossing my own arms over my chest.

"Well, let's just say I did!" He growls.

"Alright, alright..." I say. "I accept your "apology"."

He nods and stands up straight.

"So what are you doing here in another pack territory?" Jason questions.

"Well, I-"

"Ha, let me guess." He interrupts. "Your mate rejected you?"

"What? I-" He interrupts again.

"It happens all the time." He chuckles. "You girls always run away in tears and wind up on enemy land."

I narrow my eyes at him in annoyance until I remember why I ended up being here in the first place. I couldn't possibly tell him I'm a runaway murder trying to hide from people who want me dead.

I sigh.

"Yes..." I say through gritted teeth, "Yes, that is exactly why I am here..."

Jason laughs and I groan in annoyance.

"Don't worry." He says. "You'll get it out of your system in a week or two."

I roll my eyes and he smirks.

"What was it? You weren't pretty enough for him?"

I ignore him.

"What's your name anyway?" He asks.

I pause. To be on the safe side I shouldn't give him my real name...

"Dalia..." I say.

"Well Dalia," He walks to the other side of his room."The Alpha Female, Alice, seems to have taken a liking to you. Which means to my disappointment, you will be staying for a while."

I glare at him then sigh, "Just take me to the Alpha!"

Jason stands there for a minute then opens the door and walks out. I follow him. Seeing as how some of my strength is back, I am able to keep up with him. We stop in front of two double doors. Jason opens them and I walk inside.

The man sitting at the desk instantly looks up. He stands and looks at me.

"You must be..."

"Dalia." I say.

"Dalia." He repeats. "I am Alpha Alexander."

"It is an honor to meet you, sir."

He smiles. "Please, Sir, Alpha Alexander, those are all too formal for me. Just call me Alex."

I nod. "I can do that."

"My scouts tell me, from your battle with Jason, you have potential. Though you need the proper training." He says. "Why are you here?"

"I'm just an average rogue looking for a place to stay for a while." I answer.

"Then stay here." He offers. "We could use new blood like you and Jason can help you with your training."

"I'm sorry, what?!" Jason cuts in.

"You owe her this, Jason." Alex glares at him.

I smirk and stick my tongue out at him. Jason growls at me and looks away.

"You two will get along just fine." Alex smiles, then looks at me.

"Welcome to The Pack of To Dásos, Dalia!"
