5. i fucking hate this town
CHAPTER FIVE
THE CARRIAGE came to a slow, Daemerys sitting between her two brothers. She didn't want to be here, she wanted to go home already.
"All hail Rhaenyra of House Targaryen. Princess of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne and her royal consort, Prince Daemon Targaryen".
Rhaenyra opened the carriage, stepping out first. It was quiet. Too quiet. Daemon stepped out next with Daemerys shortly after — her face contorted into a scowl at the lack of people awaiting her families presence.
"The fucking jest of it", she muttered angrily, standing beside her parents as her brothers stood the other side of her.
The main doors open with a screech, Lord Caswell coming down the steps quickly, "Welcome back, Princess".
Rhaenyra looked dumbfounded by her lack of welcome as did Daemerys, "Lord Caswell".
Lord Caswell took them inside. The children were told to go to their chambers as Daemerys, Rhaenyra and Daemon continued along, the halls of the palace were so quiet you could hear a pin drop, "What is that?", Daemerys asked nobody as she stared up at this big star.
"I would say it's nice to be home, but I scarcely recognise it", Rhaenyra also looked around leaving Daemon to hum.
Opening the door to the Kings chambers, Daemerys walked in first, his art work displayed on the table. Rhaenyra walked through, pushing the veil to the side to cast a look at her sick father. "Father?".
Daemerys stepped into the room with her mother, her uncle looking almost unrecognisable — she hated seeing him in so much pain, they all did.
"Who goes there?".
"Father. It's me, my King. Rhaenyra".
"Oh...".
"I'm here with Daemon and Daemerys".
"Daemon? Daemon. Daemerys".
Daemerys stepped forward and cupped his free hand that wasn't in his daughters, Daemon standing next to Rhaenyra with a look of pain across his face.
"Help me up", Rhaenyra looked unsure but he was already moving.
"You should rest, Uncle", Daemerys carefully laid him back down but shifted his pillow so he was laying more upright before he took their hands again.
"It has been so long", Viserys whimpered in pain.
"The Sea Snake has taken a grave wound in battle in the Stepstones", Daemon started.
"Father, please", his daughter scolded, Rhaenyra giving him a look too.
"When? We won that war years ago".
"No. The Triarchy is resurgent. The fighting is anew. There is a petition to decide upon the succession of Driftmark and the heir to the Driftwood Throne".
A sharp gasp of hair cut through, "Petition? Alicent and Otto... they see to all that business now".
"Perhaps that's the problem", Daemerys mumbled, irritated by the two Hightower's and their constant need for power.
"No, brother, listen to me. You are to affirm your position for Lucerys to be Corlys Velaryon's successor", Rhaenyra grasped his arm to stop him, but it didn't stop Daemon.
"Has something happened to Lord Corlys?".
"Father...there's someone we wish to introduce you to", the door opened and children's muttering filled the air.
Rhaenyra left to grab the children when Viserys spoke, hand still clasped in Daemerys, "Daemon...".
"Brother".
"Who is that?", he asked when his daughter came back with a small child in her arms, a bright smile on her face that Daemerys carried on her own.
"Father... this is Aegon".
"Aegon".
"And this... is Viserys".
Viserys smiled at that, "Ah... Viserys", his free hand came up to fuss the child, the baby babbling in response. "Now that is a name fit for a king".
The father-daughter duo laughed, Daemerys let go of his hand to leave him alone with his daughter — walking towards her father who patted his sons head before pulling her into his chest. Their simple hug meaning so much to the both of them.
"Oh... oh", Viserys grumbled in pain and their faces fell. "Oh. I'm sorry. I'm sorry".
The children began crying, "Here, mother let me take him", Daemerys stepped away from her father and took the baby from Rhaenyra so she could tend to her father.
"Come on, little dragon. No more tears", she rocked him in her arms, the handmaiden taking Aegon out the room as well.
Daemerys sat in the chair just outside the veil that separated her from her uncle and parents, taking Aegon from the handmaiden — the two children sat in her lap, fiddling with her necklace as their crying came to a stop.
"That's it, my little dragons", she hushed them, a smile on her lips as they babbled.
Daemon and Rhaenyra stepped out once Viserys had fallen asleep, seeing their daughter with their sons now sleeping soundly on her chest. The handmaiden went to get them but she shook head politely, not wanting to disturb them. "I'll take them".
"Do you need me, mother?", she asked.
"No, no. Take them to bed", Rhaenyra kissed her head as Daemon took a seat in the chair Daemerys was sitting on — the woman taking the children and leaving the room with the handmaiden.
Queen Alicent rounded the corner, until she stopped. A young woman, beautiful she dared say walked out of the kings chambers with two children. Her face contorted into a scowl when she realised who the woman was.
"Daemerys", she called as the two met in the middle, the young woman's head snapping up at her name.
"Queen Alicent", she mumbled, displeased.
"Are these yours?", the Queen asked, looking at the children distastefully.
"No, these are my brothers", Daemerys jabbed, face showing no emotion — she reminded Alicent of Aemond and how he was often void of emotion.
"Ah, I see. I take it the Prince and Princess are with the King", she presumed and the woman nodded.
"Best hurry on though, my parents hate waiting", Daemerys drawled before walking around her and down the hall, not bowing before she left unlike the handmaiden who scrambled to do so before following the woman down the hall.
"Bastard", Alicent scoffed before walking to the chamber.
"You alright, sister?", Lucerys asked when Daemerys came into her chambers to see her brothers waiting for her — Aegon and Viserys napping with the handmaiden.
"Just had a pleasant conversation with the Queen", that was enough for the boys to grimace — understanding her annoyed expression. "Right, what havoc are we creating today?".
Jace smirked as did Luke, "We were going to go down to the training pit, see what's there".
"My favourite type of place, brother. Let's go", the boys grabbed their cloaks, their sister still having hers on as they left her chambers, not knowing what was about to go down between a certain man and woman.
