Chapter 7: The Lizard Couple!

Jasmine's POV-

"Jazz!!" Al screams out for me.

Sighing, I close the book I was reading as I get up from the bed and head downstairs.

"Yeah?" I ask as I stood at the door, my eyes trying to find my best friend.

I am pretty sure, I heard her voice from the living room.

You said the same thing when you lost Gabby's dog!

I was giving the little dog a bit of freedom. I didn't know if I removed the leash it would run away from the house.

Well, people are obviously fools to put a leash on untrained animals.

"Jazz! Jazz!" Al calls out to me.

I look around the room, but I can't see her.

"Al, did you drink the invisibility potion or Mrs. L's curry?"

Both have the same effect. One literally makes you invisible while the other forces you to be visible only in the washroom.

"No! Look up here, you goof!" Al screams, almost leaving me deaf.

I look up towards the source of the sound. Guess what I saw?

My dear best friend Alexia Lancaster standing on top of Mr. Lancaster's precious book shelf.

"Why the hell are you standing on Mr. Lancaster's book shelf? You do know there are actual sight seeing spots. You don't need to climb up the shelf to view San Diego's white sand beaches," I say while craning my neck to look at Al.

"Really? Why would I climb up on my house's books shelf to see the beaches? The most I can see here, through the window is Mrs. Brook's garden. Oh and she just stepped on her dog's poop!"

"Ew, disgusting. You didn't need to mention that!" I reply, scrunching my nose.

"So, what are you doing here?" I ask, crossing my hands over my chest.

"I-I, okay. Here goes, nothing. There were two large, very large, disgusting, brown-"

"Cockroaches?" I ask, jumping up on the couch.

"Where are they? Where are those creatures? I am going to kill them!"

"With the help of a pillow? Might as well hit them with cotton candy," Al replies while rolling her eyes.

"This ain't funny," I say, glaring at her while eyeing the whole living room.

"Stop it! There are no cockroaches here. But, there were two large brown lizards and-and they were coming towards me. So, I stood up on the chair. But-but, they started coming towards me and I freaked out and climbed up onto the shelf," Al explains, pointing to the fallen chair.

"For your information, cockroaches are much more scarier!" I say, glaring at her.

"I am telling you Jazz. The two lizards must be the parents of the baby lizard that mom threw out last week. They are here to take revenge from me!" Al screams, biting her thumb nail.

It's one of the thing she does when she's really nervous and scared. I roll my eyes, before my eyes caught something.

"Okay, Al. Be calm, okay? Stay calm."

"I am always calm," Al replies, rolling her eyes.

"Okay, you have to listen to me. No matter what happens, don't look up--"

I was midway when Al looked up and her piercing scream, cut me off.

"The-the lizards are back for their revenge!! How can you walk on walls??" Al cried out, trying to move away from the lizard couple.

"I got you there," I tell Al, opening my arms ready to catch her as she was standing on the edge of the shelf top.

"Ahhh!" She screamed, landing face first on the couch.

"Oops, wrong assumption," I say, turning around from my current place to look at Al.

"You think so?" she asks, glaring at me.

"Okay, why did you call me?" I ask Al, trying to change the discourse of our conversation.

"Yeah, we have to go dress shopping for my cousin's wedding today."

"Oh shit! I forgot I have to meet Professor Robert to ask about the group project's results."

"Professor Robert has gone to France for his honeymoon."

Busted. I really need to think, before opening my beak.

"Well, I have to return the books from the library--"

"Library's closed today and stop making excuses! Just get it done. It's not going to be that bad."

"Yeah, that sounds so not encouraging," I say as I go to the kitchen to make myself a hot cup of coffee.

Nothing makes one feel better as a cup of coffee.

"We ran out of coffee," Al tells while sitting on the kitchen island.

"What do you mean we ran out of coffee?" I ask as my eyes nearly pop out of my socket.

Don't judge me, it's coffee.

"Seriously, it's just coffee," Ryan remarks, entering the room as he sits down on the dining table's chair.

"Are you kidding me? I have OCD, dude."

"What? OCD?" Ryan asks, looking confused.

"Yes and it's really serious. My psychologist has advised me to take daily pills for it," I reply with my eyes glistening with fake tears.

"Oh my God! I didn't know that. I am really sorry, Jazz," Ryan replies, getting up from the chair and squeezing my hands in comfort.

"If I can do anything, please tell me," Ryan adds.

"Yes, please get me two cups of coffee. Remember to add condensed milk and make a beautiful pattern. Preferably a heart," I reply with a smirk.

"W-What?" Ryan asks, looking between me and a face-palming Al.

"You got tricked by Jazz, Ray. She has an OCD: Obsessive Coffee Disorder. Her psychologist is the barista and by pills, she meant coffee. Any barista would advise their customers to come back again," Al explains.

Now, you are allowed to judge me.

"You couldn't have told me that sooner?" Ryan asks, grumbling.

"Aww! I am not sorry for tricking you Ray. But seriously, dude, you are not going back on your words. Now bring me my coffee, quick!" I try to exit the dramatic way but since I am the epitome of clumsiness, I don't look where I am going and crash straight into the door.

"Okay, I propose a deal. We go out for dress shopping and Ryan gets you a coffee on the way. Hitting two birds with one stone?" Al asks, giving me her innocent smile.

"Fine," I say in defeat.

"Hey! What about me? Nobody asked my opinion!" Ryan shouts from the kitchen as Al and I hurry back to our rooms to get ready.
