Jazz's POV (Continuation from last time) -
"It's so beautiful," I remark, admiring the beautiful scenery and architecture of the Brooklyn bridge.
"I know right. It was the first thing I visited when I came here to the university," Ryan says, smiling at the view.
"University?" I probe in.
"Yes, I was a student of New York University. So, that was when I first came to New York."
"You mean you actually knew the meaning of fun back then? Visiting places and all?" I tease him as we continue walking.
"Ha! Ha! Really funny. But yes, back then I was, you could say, more of an explorer."
"Explorer?" I ask, curiously.
"Yeah, but I guess things changed once I started to look after the business and all," he answers in a tired tone.
"What was your age when you took over the business?"
"Twenty one."
"That's early," I remark, genuinely surprised by his answer.
"What? You think I am an old man now?" he asks with a small smile.
"No, but you must be in your mid thirty's," I lie with a serious expression.
"W-What?" he asks, shock evident on his face.
I couldn't hold my laughter anymore, as I burst out in a fit of laughter.
"You... should have... seen your... face," I manage to say in between my laughing session.
"Very funny," he replies sarcastically with an annoyed face.
"And for the record I am twenty five," he adds, glaring at me.
I simply shake my head at his behaviour. In all honesty, he doesn't look a day over twenty one, but I will never admit that to his face.
"Ouch," I say as a person rushes past me, mumbling apologies.
"Watch where you are going," Ryan shouts at the person as he holds me from my elbows to stop me from falling.
"Are you alright?" he asks gently.
"Yeah," I murmur, looking back at his emerald green eyes.
"So, shall we continue?" he asks, letting my elbows go as he clears his throat.
"Yeah," I answer with a smile.
As I start to move forward, Ryan slowly holds my left hand, intertwining it with his own.
Seeing my questioning look, he clears his throat, before answering, "In case you might fall or get lost in the crowd."
"That's some faith you have in me," I meekly retort as we start walking hand in hand. In reality, I was anything but calm, I mean he was holding my hand. Yes, he had a reason, but is it weird to say I kind of, I don't know, forget it.
Ugh! What's wrong with me, I mentally scream at myself as we go on walking.
"You know many girls would kill to be in your position," Ryan remarks, smirking at me.
Weirdly enough he seems so comfortable, perhaps even casual about the whole hand holding thing. I guess it's just me, overthinking as usual.
"My position?" I ask, repeating his words.
"Standing beside me is a big thing," he smirks. There goes my whole anxiety about the moment.
Wait a sec, we were having a moment?
Ignoring my always butting in the way, inner voice I focus my attention on Ryan, fixing him with a glare. For some reason the thought of me being like those past girls of his isn't a very pleasant thought.
Or you mean the idea of him being around other girls?
"Then why don't you go and have fun with those girls," I reply, ignoring my inner voice, as I jerk my hand away from him and start to walk ahead, but before I could take a step forward he stops me by grabbing my wrist.
"Because they aren't you, they aren't my Disney Freak," he simply replies while smiling as my cheeks redden on hearing his words. The blush finally winning it's way onto my face.
Suddenly the rain starts pouring, saving me from the moment.
"What are you doing? Let's run before we get wet," Ryan says, tugging my hand towards the exit.
"No, why do you want to hurry?" I ask, freeing my hand from his grip.
"To stop us from getting sick."
"But it's so pretty here," I reason out as I feel the water droplets hitting my face and wetting my hair.
I slowly twirl around enjoying the feel of the wind and the rain. The beautiful odour of petrichor fills my sense as I stand near the railing, admiring the East river and the breathtaking scenery.
(A/N - The Brooklyn Bridge during rain/ cloudy sky!)
"You know this bridge was the world's first steel-wired suspension bridge," Ryan remarks, as he too comes to stand beside me.
"Here I am telling you to admire the view and you decide to bring up the architecture," I tease him with a small smile playing on my lips.
"Okay, then.... Did you know that a rooster made the first trip across the bridge?"
"For real?" I ask, looking at the now wet Ryan and it was a big mistake to do this. His white shirt is totally wet and see through and let me tell you it's hard to ignore the abs.
"Yes, when I heard it, I didn't believe it either."
Huh?
He's talking about the rooster.
Ohhh
Stop staring at the fine specimen and reply to him idiot.
That snaps me out of the trance as I look away and see Ryan staring at the river with a small smile playing on his lips. I smile mischievously at him as an idea forms in my head.
Aren't you full of ideas, today?
Yet again ignoring my inner voice, I move towards Ryan and start shaking my head sideways causing my hair to fly in all directions.
"Hey, stop that," Ryan groans as I continue shaking my head sideways, causing water from my hair to sprinkle onto his face.
"Well, catch me," I call out as I start jogging towards the exit.
Yeah judge me, but I'd like to see you running in these death trappers.
On reaching the exit, I halt waiting for Ryan as I catch my breathe. One second later, Ryan comes rushing towards me almost colliding into me.
"Damn, you walk fast," he remarks, standing beside me.
"That was fun," I say as we start walking to some place.
Hey! I am practically a tourist. Don't be so judgemental now.
"Here," Ryan says as he takes out his wet black tux placing it on my exposed shoulders.
"No offense, but you do know it's wet?" I ask, amusingly.
"Well, considering the fact you are walking around in a sexy dress, it will atleast cover you a bit," he grumbles, glaring at some men who were staring at me or rather my chest.
My cheeks immediately flush, not liking the unwanted attention at all.
And the fact he called us sexy?
"I guess we should first change our clothes or we'll definitely fall sick," Ryan says, breaking my thoughts.
We continue walking and enter an expensive store, where might I say people are giving me the weird looks and openly ogling at Ryan.
I know right! Like seriously b**ch go to your man.
"Here, go change into something comfortable. I should change too, I'll meet you outside the changing room," Ryan says as he quickly goes off to the men section while I go towards the ladies section.
I quickly select a pair of black jeans and a red sweatshirt along with a towel.
Hey! You can't expect me to wear these clothes when I am totally wet, that kind of defeats the purpose of changing clothes.
I quickly dry myself off and removing the tags, change into my new clothes. I step out just in time to see Ryan coming towards me. He cleaned up pretty well, he was sporting a blue denim jeans and a white-blue mixed color sweatshirt.
He comes towards me handing me a packet to keep my wet clothes and towel as I notice him carrying a bag with his wet party clothes too. As I start to make my way towards the cash counter he stops me. Bending down he gestures me to remove my death trappers. I do so while frowning at him as he takes out a pair of sneakers from a box kept beside him. I stop him from placing them on my feet and quickly do it myself.
"You shouldn't be doing it, not when I am perfectly capable of wearing them on my own," I explain, seeing his questioning gaze.
"Oh and thank you for these," I say pointing to the black and white sneakers, which are so damn comfortable. My feet literally misses the earth at this moment.
I look at Ryan, who seems to be in a deep thought, and might I add he's still on the ground. I clear my throat, effectively breaking his thought process and extend my hand to help him get up. He gives me one of his very rare full smiles as he takes my hand and gets up, almost knocking me down.
"What do you eat?" I grumble as we go towards the cash counter.
"Definitely not Oreos and coffee," he mocks me.
"I'll pay," I'll say as we reach the cash counter.
"Oh really? Then why don't you take out your purse?"
"Yeah, just give me..." I stop midway as realization dawns upon me that I had left it back in the car.
Ryan laughs at me while giving his card, paying for both of us.
"You knew!" I accuse him as he smirks at me, not denying my accusation.
"I'll pay you back," I declare as the cashier gives him back his card.
"Nope, it's a gift from me. After all it's your first time here," he counters as he grabs both of our bags, one of which I take causing a frown to mar his face.
"But--"
"No, but's. Now get inside," he cuts me off midway, while opening the car door for me. Yes, apparently he called his driver while I was in the changing room.
"I'll pay you back one way or the other."
"I am not a coffee addict, in case you were planning to buy me coffee or Oreos," he replies, smirking as I scowl at him causing him to laugh.
"Ouch, you hit me again," Ryan replies rubbing his chest where I had smacked him.
"First of all I know it didn't hurt and secondly what do you mean by again?"
"Firstly, it does hurt. You are not the one at the receiving end and secondly you have been snacking me since morning," he grumbles as I jog my memory to recall the incidents I had smacked him.
"Well, you don't exactly make it easy to not hit you with your degrading attitude towards my coffee," I defend my actions, having recalled the multiple incidents where I did smack him.
"Well, some might think you love to feel my chest with your repetitive actions and attention to my chest," he replies while smirking.
"W-What? I-I don't--"
"I was just kidding, Disney Freak," Ryan says, laughing out aloud as my face further flushes.
"It's not funny," I grumble to myself as I observe the laughing, carefree looking man from the corner of my eyes and somehow my own lips end up lifting upwards as a small smile forms.
"You know what Disney Freak?"
"What?"
"I'll give it you, even though we are at a high risk of falling sick, it was great to just stop for a second and forget everything and enjoy the rain," he replies, smiling at me.
"Yay! That means one point for Fun and zero for Logic!" I exclaim, as Ryan laughs and I join him.
A yawn escapes from my mouth as I make myself comfortable in the car seat, laying my head on the glass window of the car. Before I know it, my eyelids start to get heavy.
I groan half sleepily trying to find a comfortable position when I feel someone gently lifting my head and placing it on a soft but kind of hard pillow. I try to open my eyes to check how Coffee Stealer managed to find a pillow for me, but all the tiredness starts to kick in. I snuggle closer to the pillow seeking the warm and softness as someone chuckles.
"You truly are one of a kind, my Disney Freak," I hear someone remark softly. That's the last thing I hear before darkness engulfs me completely.
