Part 7 - I Can't Even Make A Popsicle
Again, I am SO SORRY for not updating for awhile!! I've been very busy all of a sudden, so I hope you understand!! Thank you, my small group of readers, for reading this!! Also, if you have anything you would like me to write about I would love to hear it!
" Hey, Harley! I got a new employee." I say walking into the bakery with Jasper right behind me. I was having trouble at looking Harley in the eye, ever since my speech had gone wrong and in the end, I made not only myself look bad, but Harley and Aubrey as well I just avoided them. It didn't stay like that forever of course but still, I'm completely embarrassed and I understand if Harley or Aubrey didn't want to be friends with me anymore. I'm an idiot, to say the least.
" Are you sure you're alright there Chlo? You seem to be a bit off today." Jasper asks me and I shake my head.
" I'm alright. Don't worry about it."
" Doesn't sound alright," Jasper mumbles under his breath, but I pretend not to hear him.
" Sorry, Chloe did you say we got a new empl- holy fuck did the lord finally grant us with a new god?" Harley exclaims coming out of the kitchen her mouth wide open in a daze as she gawks at Jasper. Even though they have kind of already met before, I don't think she really paid to much attention to him in the first place.
" Hey, I'm Jasper. You must be Harley? I heard we go to the same school, and I think we met the other day. I'm Aubrey's twin brother." Jasper says stepping forward and taking out his hand for her to shake. Still looking at Jasper in awe, she takes out her hand and shakes it looking to the side about every five seconds.
I step over to Harley's side and lean close to her ear " You're drooling." I whisper to her, and Harley snaps back to reality wiping the drool off her chin. Jasper and I laugh while Harley's face becomes many different shades of red from embarrassment.
" Do you fancy Jasper, Harley?" I ask in a mocking tone.
" I'm sorry if you feel that way Harley but I'm not inter-."
" Why is that? My friend is amazing."
" Well, I'm just not interested in her, no offense to you Harley. You're very pretty and all but-"
" Are you saying that my friend isn't good enough?"
" No. What I'm saying is that I'm interested in-"
Harley finally takes her hands and covers each of our mouths, " Will you shut up already. I'm not looking at you Jasper.....I'm looking....at....at him." Harley nods in a boy's direction, and Jasper and I turn our heads this way. I could've sworn she was looking at Jasper. Almost every girl that had laid eyes on him would always gawk and drool over his god-like features, except for me of course. Then who could Harley have been staring at?
" Eli?" Jasper asks looking at the brown-haired boy. Jasper walks over to him leaving Harley and in an awkward state, giving each other confused glances.
Focusing my eyes on the to boys talking I start to recognize the boy that was talking to Jasper. Although it had been a while since he had moved schools. The brown hair, blue-eyed, boy was none other than Jasper's best friend since 6th grade, but I thought that they had been a huge fight right before Eli had left for Arkansas for the sophomore year. What was he doing back here?
" It's been awhile Eli," I say gliding way up to them. Eli was more handsome than I remembered him to be, his hair had grown a bit and he had more muscle and more freckles than he did when I last saw him.
It was Aubrey, Jasper, Eli, and I, in our chairs right beside the pool. We were all staying at the twins' mansion for the time being since it was only a couple of days until summer, and we were trying to have as much fun as we could before school would ruin it all and Eli would be leaving. Then Eli and Jasper went to go get drinks right after they threw Aubrey and I into the pool, and Jasper came back with a bloody nose and no Eli. I never asked what happened for many reasons, but it didn't keep me from wondering what might have happened.
I never saw Eli again after that, or.... until now.
" Hey, Chlo. You got hotter." He says and I scoff.
" And you're just as big dick as you used to be." I snap back and Eli smiles.
" Good to see you, Chloe." He says and I nod.
" Good to see you too," I reply. Harley clears her throat making all of us turn back around. We lock eyes for a moment as if we were reading each other's minds, and that this moment I already knew what she was needing.
" Oh," I say and walk over towards Harley, putting my arm around her, " This is my friend Harley. She works at the bakery with me."
" Hi." She says shyly towards Eli. Eli does a childish grin, his eyes lighting ho when he sees her.
" H-hi." He stammers in almost the same manner that Harley had.
Looking over at Jasper I could tell that he was thinking the same thing. Something was going to happen between these two, and whatever it was I just hop it doesn't turn out badly in the end. Jasper nods in agreement and I almost laugh. Maybe I am a mind reader after all?
" Well." Jasper says, " I got a new job."
Eli looks over in surprise and raises a brow " What happened to the surf shop? Did you finally burn the place down?"
" No. It just ran out of business."
" Are you sure because I'm still amazed that you got another job. Who in what mind would want to hire you? They would have to be an idiot to that!" Eli says knocking me back a little.
" You're at his work, and that idiot you're talking about, that's me dumbass," I say to him. Eli chuckles nervously while I glare at him for a second before turning my attention away from him.
" Jasper I need to talk to you. Alone please." I tell him and Jasper nods. I lead him into the kitchen, closing the doors behind him so that nobody can hear us. There are so many unanswered questions I need to know before he starts working with Harley and I. I'm not going to be having someone who's family runs the rivalry bakery down the street without some answers.
" What's up?" Jasper asks and I could tell he was holding back his dirty jokes for now.
" If you're going to work here I need you to answer some questions."
" Do you do this to all your employees?"
" Just the ones who's family runs the bakery down the street."
Jasper sighs, his breathtakingly green eyes looked into my hazel ones and I almost wanted to look away but I didn't.
" What would you like to know then? But if I didn't know any better I would've thought that-"
" Why didn't you tell your sister you were working here? You told Eli." I ask, interrupting him before he finished his sentence.
" I didn't tell Eli, you did Ms.' I'm his boss' and I wasn't planning on telling anyone for a few personal reasons, but I will let the one with Eli slide since he's my best friend."
" I thought you and him got into a fight last time you saw each other?" I ask.
" That's all in the past now. After he moved we still talked almost every week."
" Oh." I all I say and Jasper nods.
" Anything else Chlo?" He asks and I shake my head. Jasper smiled and pats the top of my head then leaves with me right behind him.
" You two were in there for a while. Care to go into detail?" Harley says with an interested grin. Eli was still there sitting across the table from Harley with the same smile look formed on his face as Harley.
" Nothing happened Harley. I asked him a few questions than he answered them. "
" Sure..." Eli and Harley say in unison.
" Since when were you guys so buddy?" Jasper asked them.
" I could ask the same thing about you guys," Eli replies.
" I'm gonna start preparing Mike's cupcake now..." Harley says standing up from her seat and walking towards the kitchen.
" Who's Mike?" Eli asks.
" He's the wise homeless man that we always give a free cupcake to every morning and evening. He lives down the street." I tell him.
" How do you know about Mike?" Jasper asks turning to me.
" He's been there ever since I could remember, and every morning and evening, when I would get back from school my grandpa, would send me to him to give him his strawberry cupcake," I tell him.
" Oh." I hear Jasper say.

After Eli left, I decided to have Jasper learn how to use the cashier since he didn't know how to bake. There were a few customers come around but none of them Jasper and I knew, but I was still wondering how jasper was going to pull off keeping his job a secret, but to do that he'll need a different task.
" Jasper, can you come to the kitchen please?" I holler at him as I put the last of the leftover ingredients into the fridge. It was almost closing time and Harley had already left saying she needed to finish some homework, so that left Jasper and I do close up for the night.
" Is there something wrong?" Jasper asks poking his head through the door.
" Come here. I wanna show you something. " I say, motioning for him to stand beside me and he does.
" Whatcha need?" He asks.
" You're going to learn how to bake."
" Cool, but first you're going to have to fireproof everything before doing so."
" I'm being serious Jasper."
" Me too. I can't cook, bake, not even make my own popsicles."
" Popsicles? Really?"
" Yup. My mind never thought of what to do to make cupcakes."
" You're an idiot."
" That I am. Now are you going to teach me how to bake or what?" He asks and I roll my eyes in annoyance then continue, pointing to a cabinet to the right of us.
" Get the bowl out of there and I'll get rest of the ingredients. "
" Can you not reach that shortie?" Jasper asks even though I'm actually like 5'7.
" Just get the bowl," I say and turn my heel to the fridge. Gathering the rest of the ingredients I then set them down on the counter and look over to Jasper. I've memorized this recipe by the time I was six. It's so easy I don't even think Jasper could get this one wrong....hopefully.

" Now add the flour," I tell him and Jasper does as instructed, pouring the flour into the measuring cup slowly and carefully then pouring it into the mix.
" Good jo- hey! What the hell?!" I exclaim when out if nowhere a puff of flour is thrown at my face. Anger fills me and I could feel my cheeks getting hot. Grabbing a handful of flour I then throw it at Jasper. Jasper tries to dodge it but forgets that we're in a kitchen and I steady knocks down a whole shelf of ingredients, making him covered in not only flour but fruit, icing, and sprinkles. Carma is a bitch.
I couldn't help but burst out laughing at the sight of him. The once former looking Hollywood model material now looked like a ghost in candy land.
After a couple of moments, I look up at Jasper who was rubbing his forehead glaring with only a small smirk at me as he sits on the tile floor. Apparently, he didn't think that him falling was funny. It should be since that's a lot of money that just went to waste right there, but I didn't care about that right now. I probably will later though.
" C'mon there's a hose out back that we can use to wash off. We can finish the cupcakes later." I say holding out a hand to help him up. He takes my hand and I yank him off the ground.
" Why do you have a hose our back?" He asks as I lead him to the back of the building. I open the back door outside and Jasper turns on the hose still waiting for an answer.
" Becuase this is not the first time this has happened." I tell him and I could see his face sadden a bit, and quickly try to rephrase what I had meant, " I mean, I've never had to teach anyone before if that's what you're asking, but it's not the first time I've made a mess in the kitchen."
" Oh. I'm not surprised about that. You've always been a bit clumsy." He says cracking a smile, his dimples showing when he does.
" Says the one who just ran into a whole shelf of ingredients."
Jasper shrugs " What can I say. We're not that different after all, now are we?"
" I guess not," I say, a smile forming in my face.
" But you di realize you're still paying for those ingredients you just wasted."
" I was hoping you weren't going to say that."
" Well, I did. "
Jasper sighs and looks over at me, " How much?" He asks, and before I could answer a bunch of cold water sprays at my face, making my face scrunch up. Great.
" Jasper quit getting me wet!" I exclaim.
" That's what she said."
" Why you are just an-" More water. I should've never given him the hose.
" What was that?"
" I was saying you're fired," I say.
" Fine." He says and hands me the hose. I smile and start spraying the water at Jasper to wash him off, and then do myself after. Looking over at Jasper I couldn't help but notice how his black shirt was now tugging on every single one of his remarkable features, making his abs more visible than ever. I know I thought he was a god before but this is on another different level. He was gorgeous in every way, no wonder so many girls were falling at his feet and worshipping the ground he walked on.
" Like what you see Chlo?" Jasper says and winks. My face turns bright red and I quickly spray Jasper in the face. Jasper shrieks and I couldn't help but form a big smile on my face.
" Let's just go back inside and finish the cupcakes."
●●●●
" How are they?" Jasper asks in anticipation as I take a bite out of the cupcake. I decided to go ahead and do the icing myself since he wasn't really just quite ready for that yet and I had to say I was actually impressed, but there was one thing I found that was....off.
"It's a little dry." I say and Jasper's face drops, " But otherwise it's great. It has nice flavor and color so I would give you a B+"
" That's the best grade I've ever gotten so far," Jasper says with pride and I chuckle.
" Great. Then I'll go give these to Mike and guess what you get to do?"
Jasper sighs, knowing what he'll have to do " Clean up." He says.
" Clean up." I agree and pick up the cupcakes to bring to Mike.
As I walk out of the kitchen though, I stop in my tracks. The perfect blondie that stood in the doorway with the same perfect smile and eyes. The twin sister of my new employee that didn't know her brother was working here for 'personal reasons'. Why was she here?
" Hey, Chloe. Do you happen to know where my brother is? I saw you leave with him today."
