Part 2 - You Need A Date
As I quickly put my shoes on I hear a car honking outside my house. I already knew who it was, and I didn't want to keep her waiting or else she would probably drive off.
Saying goodbye to my grandma I then run out of my house and up to Aubrey's car. It was a white Mercedes with black custom made seats that had butt warmers in the front seats and the back seats. Of course, since its California, we wouldn't be needing them. I'm talking about our trip our class is going on during winter break, and Aubrey and I already have our outfits picked out...or more, Aubrey has our outfits picked out.
You see, not only did the Grays own a bakery, but they also happen to own their own beach resort, hence to why so many of my employees are going to their bakery instead of mine. It wasn't Aubrey's fault for that though, it was her parents. If it was her fault then I would be already setting her expensive car on fire, but it's not and I'm happy it's not.
" Cute sweatshirt! Who's the lucky guy?" I ask as I get into Aubrey's car. Aubrey looked as she did every day: perfect. She had her newly dyed blonde hair in beach waves, and her make up was yet again on point. Sadly, we all had to wear informs but somehow Aubrey still made it work by having her tailor hem up the plaid skirt that our school makes us wear.
I actually don't like wearing skirts. They're uncomfortable, and when you have guys looking left and right at the girl walking beside you, you can get a little self-conscious about your own body when your standing next to a goddess with very long legs and lots of power. Instead, I wear pants...actually more like skinny pants since I am not wearing those huge pants that girls have to use belts to hold them up, and to the girls that do my props to you.
Of course, Aubrey is always planning on what we are wearing each day and always texts me before we go to sleep my outfit for the next day. It can get annoying at times but I know she's only looking out for me so that I don't wear anything to....weird. She's just looking out for me that's all.....did I already say that? Well. Whatever.
" It's Jackson's as always." She says to me and giggles. Jackson is Aubrey's boyfriend of two years when they met at Eleanor's while I was working. They hit it off immediately, and then after went for dinner, they've been together ever since.
" Aren't you gonna get detention if you wear that?" I ask.
" Of course not the teachers love me. Of course some of them a little too much." She says touching up her lip gloss in the side view mirror. She's right, all the teachers adore her, probably because her family has a lot of money, but that wouldn't make sense since her brother Jasper is hated of all of them and they both seem to get in trouble a lot except Aubrey gets out of it and Jasper does not.
Jasper is Aubrey's twin brother. Even though Aubrey is my best friend does not mean by any means that I am friends with Jasper. Actually, it's the complete opposite.
You see, Jasper and I don't get along for many reasons. We used to when we first met, but then I started to become friends with his sister and all of a sudden he just became an ass. Sure, he's one of the most stunning look specimens I have ever seen but otherwise, he's got a horrible attitude and is a man whore.
Aubrey starts her car and puts it in drive. I will say that I am a little bit jealous of Aubrey. I don't want to be, but could you blame me? The girl lives in a mansion with a Mercedes as a car while I barely had enough money to afford a laptop for school. She has it all without doing a single thing.
" So I was thinking about going to Brian's party next Friday. You should go too." Aubrey tells me.
I shrug " I don't know. Brian's kind of weird..." I tell her.
" Well duh that's obvious but for free beer? C'mon, it'll be fun. Please. I'll give you a ride."
" Fine."
" Great! I knew you would! But you were going to have to come anyway because I already said you were coming."
I laugh in response " Of course you did." And Aubrey gives a mischievous smile then shrugs.
" Now all we have to do is find you a dat- "
" Nope. Never. No way. Do you remember what happened last time?"
" Yes and all he did was spill his beer on you because he was drunk. Do you also remember getting payback at him by spray painting his motorcycle was neon pink spray paint?"
" Yes but- "
" I'm going to find you a date Chloe whether you like it or not."
A pang of anger flares up in me, but this usually happens when Aubrey oversteps her boundaries. I don't need a date, I didn't really even want to in the first place to go to that stupid party, but I am being the good friend I am, but now she's going to get me a date. Hell to the fucking no.
" No. You're not getting me a date, Aubrey."
" Who's going to stop me. "
" Uh me. You know the one that you're trying to set up."
" What about Michael he's the quarterback of our football team?"
" I've already said that I don't want a-"
" We're here!" She chirps as she pulls her Mercedes-Benz into the school parking lot, but I wasn't ready to end this conversation.
" Please, Aubrey- "
" Look, I promise I will find you a perfect guy that stands up to your expectations. Okay?" She says as she gets out of the car. I do the same and slam my door shut and quickly walking away from Aubrey. I don't know what's been going on with her lately, she just thinks that she can control because she has money and more popularity. Well never again.
●●●●
I slam my locker door shut to find Aubrey standing there with a serious look on her face as if she either might murder someone or burst out in tears I don't know. Aubrey was really good at putting a wall up when she needed to and I guess this one one of her times she did.
" Look," she starts as she leans up against the locker " I'm sorry about what I said in the car earlier but- "
" Aubrey I don't want a date to a fucking party. Why couldn't you get that through your head?"
" Because I just really felt bad for you. I mean, the whole time I have known you, you have never even had a fling with someone or even have gone on a date. At this rate, I'm scared that you won't lose your virginity until your in your late thirties!" At this point, Aubrey was on the verge of tears, and a pit started to form in my stomach. I hated having this effect on people, I didn't like watching people cry because then I don't know what to do. I'm so awkward I just stand there and do nothing, and that's exactly what I do.
" I promise that I will never try to make you do anything like that again. I just worry about you that's all. As your best friend, I want you to live your life the best you can." She continues and at this point, I feel like I should say something because she was about to burst out crying.
" Its okay Aubrey, I forgive you, and I understand, but I'm just waiting for the right person you know. You found the right person for you a lot faster than I did, and I'm very happy that you did but I haven't yet, and I'm fine with that for now."
Aubrey pulls me in for a hug and holds me tightly for a long time. I will admit my best friend is a little bit dramatic, but I'm fine with it as long as we don't fight and we really haven't fought a lot. I think this was probably the biggest fight we've ever had actually.
" Wanna walk to class together?" She asks when she releases me.
" Of course." I chirp.
We arrive at class just after the late heel rings but it doesn't matter, we made it to class. Aubrey and I sit in our normal seats right in the middle with our other friends as they try to throw paper airplanes into Mr. Franklin's big afro hair.
" Sorry, I'm late!" I hear a familiar voice say running into the classroom. I turn my head around to see a girl with a golden brown curly set of hair. It was hair that I could recognize from miles away. It was Harley, and by the looks of it for some reason, Aubrey didn't like her. I quickly hide my head behind a math book when Harley looks at my friends' way and Aubrey gives me a questioned look.
" Hey, Harley doesn't that girl look familiar? The one with elf ears?" Aubrey asks me referring to Harley. In my opinion, the elf ears didn't matter, but when you're dealing with the queen of the school who is your best friend you have to do what you gotta do to survive. Have her hear what she wants.
This was the worst part about being on the of 'popular kids'. You would think that they would get away with everything, but no that's not how it actually works. The way I see it there is a latter. Starting at the bottom of the latter you have the 'wait you go to school?' People, then the 'what's your name again' people, then the ' ew it's her/him" people, then sort of popular people and so on, but its sad to say that Harley will not be sitting with us, the 'popular kids' any time ever, and so I do what I gotta do.
" Oh no, she kind of reminds me one of Santa's elves," I say and everyone burst out laughing they were only laughing because I was best friends with Aubrey Gray, and they weren't ever going to mess with her and that meant no one could mess with me, and if that means being fake then I have to deal with it.
Now I had something bigger to worry about, Harley's reputation, and I'm the one who's about to mess it up.
Questions: Do you like the story so far (even though there are only two parts.......okay that sounded wrong so sorry.) ANYWAYS how is it? Is there anything you want to recommend me to do? Any critiques?
