Part 11 - To Fun
" Just one more teensy weensy sip of one?" I slur, holding out my empty red solo cup.
" No." Jasper says, " you're drunk enough Chlo. How did you even get that drunk anyway? I thought we said that we were going to have only two cups? What happened to that?"
" Uh....life." I take a step forward and poke Jasper's chest, " And by the way, I am not that dru.....drun.....oh shit."
A wave of nausea hits me as I quickly push Jasper out of the way then lean over and spill out my guts. The sour taste of vomit and alcohol fills my mouth as I stand up and wipe the vomit off my chin, and I cringe. I look back at Jasper who seemed more concerned then I am about it. So what? This is the first time I have vommitted tonight, so if you ask me I've done pretty well.
" I think you need to go home," Jasper says.
" I can't go home. My grandmother would literally burn me alive, AND I don't have a ride. In your face Mr....uh I don't know what I was saying..," I look down at Jasper's hands to find that he doesn't have a drink. Well since this guy doesn't seem to know what fun is I will have to bring it to him. Not that way you sick bastard of a reader.
I take Jasper's hand to his surprise and walk him towards the kitchen.
" Where are we going?" Jasper asks me.
" To fun."
" I really do think you have had enough fun for a night for tonight Chlo. We have to work tomorrow, remember? Besides, I don't really think your version of fun, is my version of fun. "
" What did you say?" I squeal and Jasper stops abruptly, pulling me backward with such a strong force that I knock into him.
" I said that you need to stop drinking!"
" You," I say turning around and pointing at him, " are not in charge Mr......ooh its Eli!"
I notice Eli out of the corner of my eye and wave at him. Eli notices and walks over to us. He seemed pretty worn out but kept looking over his shoulder every three steps he took towards us.
" Hi, Eli!" I beam.
Eli looks from me to Jasper, " Drunk?" He asks him.
" No," I argue " Just tipseee!"
Eli chuckles, " Well whether your tipseee or drunk I need your guy's help."
He looks back over his shoulder again then turns back to us.
" Oooh, fun!"
" Did something happen?" Jasper asks.
" Not something. More like who."
" Oh no." Jasper says, " Was it who I think it is?"
" Most likely, yes."
" Who? " I ask.
" Aubrey of course," Jasper tells me and Eli nods.
" She's been bugging me all night. She's literally harassing me, to say the least. She's spilled to drinks on me. Not one. Two."
Jasper sighs looking down at his shoes for a moment then looks back up at Eli and I, " Alright. Chloe, how are you feeling? Think you'll be able to do this in your....state?"
" I feel oh so fantabulous, but I'm not helping becuz that's me best friend," I say, holding a thumbs up with a huge grin. Jasper smirks, rolls his eyes, then turns back to Eli.
" Honestly Aubrey is just a bit drunk right now, she's like that with a lot of guys when she gets drunk."
" A bit? She's worse then Chlo over here."
" Hey, I said I am fine."
" Whatever you say Chlo," he turns back to Jasper, " You think you can help me?"
Jasper shows an evil grin, " What's the plan bro?"
" First let's get Chloe some water."
••••
I decided to go and find something else to do since the two boys left me to get rid of my best friend after I had gotten some water. I'm not sure why Aubrey would do that. There are not many lights on, so maybe she thought that Eli was someone else but that was unlikely since Aubrey has very good eyesight.
I decided to just find a place to sit down since my feet were starting to hurt from these heels and look around for something to rest on. I thought about going to the living room but I didn't want to be third-wheeling on anyone that was 'getting at it' in there. Instead, I head for the back porch and find a nice lawn chair to rest on.
I close my eyes trying to drown out all the voices and loud music and bad smells. It can become overwhelming at parties, especially when you drink too much.
I'm getting bored without Jasper or Eli or Aubrey. They were always good at these kinds of party things. I just go to make Aubrey happy.
Why don't I just say no?
" Hey, Chloe? You look exhausted." I hear a familiar voice say to me.
I open my eyes to see Jackson looking down at me with an odd smile, " I'm not tired, just a bit overwhelmed. "
Jackson takes the seat next to me and leans closer making me squirm in my seat, " You wanna get out of here?" He asks.
Say no. Walk away. I think, but I don't do it. Something's keeping me from going. Fear? Awkwardness? Curiosity?
" Where's Aubrey? I thought she would be with you about this time." I say trying to avoid his question.
" Not sure. One minute we were having fun and the next she was gone. I thought she went looking for you or Jasper."
I start standing our if my chair, " Well I'll go look for her-"
" Why don't you stay? We really don't get to talk a lot anyway. C'mon, I barely know anything about you, and your my girlfriend's best friend."
I sigh, " Fine, but only for a bit." I say and sit back down.
" Awesome." He says showing a smile.
" So what is it you wanted to talk about?" I ask.
The alcohol was starting to wear off from the water and I was relieved. If I needed to run away from this awkward conversation then I could now.
" I hear Eli is back in town. He's even at the party, isn't he? Do you know how long he's staying for?"
" Actually no. I never asked."
" Well, hopefully not for long." He mumbles.
" Why is that?" I ask, curious as to why he would say that. Surely he doesn't know about Aubrey and Eli back then, that was a long time ago and I'm sure not even Jasper knows about it.
" You didn't even notice?"
The tone in his voice was beginning to change and I couldn't help but feel as if I shouldn't be here. Actually, I know I shouldn't be here, but I stay anyways. Still, something seems.....not right.
" You're not drunk are you Jackson?" I ask in a joking manner.
" Only a little bit, but then again I could ask you the same. You don't look too well."
" I'm alright. I got water." I say holding up my cup that I had in my hand then set it on the chair's armrest.
The awkward silence grows until its unbearable. I start to stand up when I hear Jacksons fist slam on the armrest of his chair.
" Just spit it out already! Aubrey like Eli and you know it!" He exclaims making everyone's head turn. I sit back down but lean back in my seat the farthest I can stay from him.
" I have no idea what you're talking about!" I lie, still shocked at his sudden change in tone and emotion.
" Like hell you do! I saw her trying to get with him!" He says pointing a finger at me.
" She's drunk! We all are!"
" So she is? She's my girlfriend. Ahe should know not to do that!"
So should you. I wanted to say but didn't.
I sigh, knowing that arguing with a drunk guy while I'm not sober either is pointless, Aubrey's boyfriend or not.
" Look, whether or not she does fancy him, that shouldn't matter. Eli doesn't seem to like her anyway-"
" But she likes him."
" No, that's not what I was trying to say -"
" What if I make her jealous? I'm popular, someone will find out if I do something. Maybe..." he looks over at me, " Would you help me make her jealous? Maybe she'll like me then."
I quickly stand up out of my seat, shaking my hands in a no like gesture, " God no. She's my best friend I would never."
" Oh, c'mon it would only be like one kiss. Please just," he stands up walking closer to me to where I can feel his booze smelling breath on my face,
"It's not that big deal. It's not like you have a boyfriend or anything."
I look back but everyone had already turned their heads away, or they're whispering to each other. Help! I wanted to scream, but nothing would come out.
I turn back to Jackson taking another step back but yet again, he steps forward and tries to kiss me.
" Please stop! I don't want to!" I exclaim holding up my hands to my face. That was a bad idea because he grabs a hold of my wrist tightly, and I can't break free no matter how hard I try to.
" You're lying. Of course, you would want to kiss me. Who wouldn't? I'm good looking, rich popular-"
" Ahhhhh!!" We hear Aubrey scream from inside. Jackson turns his head towards the screams, making him loosen his grip on me which gives me a chance to yank my arms away from him and run back into the house to find someone. Anyone.
I check behind me to see if Jackson followed but thankfully he didn't. I sigh if relief and quit running and transition into a speed walk. I need to find Aubrey and leave. Now.
" Chloe are you alright?" I hear a familiar voice asks me. I look to the direction the voice was coming from to see a concerned Jasper looking at me.
" I-I need to leave. Where's Aubrey? I need to g-go. I need to go home." I studder.
I actually can't go home. If my grandma ever saw me likes this she would instantly send me off to a boarding school in Kansas. I'll just find Aubrey, I can stay with her.
But what if Jackson's there?
Jasper steps forward, reaching to me, but I step back. Jasper frowns but stays there, as I hug myself.
" Aubrey already went home. She told me to tell you that you can get a ride from me if you had to."
" What did you do?"
" We may or may not if spilled an entire ice chest on her. I'm definitely going to get in trouble when I get home."
" Oh okay," I say nodding as if that wasn't a big of a deal that Aubrey could've gotten a concussion.
" Okay." He says taking a step forward again, " I have to get Eli then we can go. Alright?"
" Okay."
••••
" So do you want to talk about what happened or...." this was Jasper talking. Eli had already been dropped off at his house which left me and Jasper alone in his car.
" No," I say.
" Alright."
Silence. The most uncomfortable silence I have ever heard in the world, and at this point, if that's all I can get right now I'll take it. It's a lot better than having to talk about what happened. Jasper turns on some weird music, tapping to the beat of it on his steering wheel as he turns down my street.
Oh my fucking God! (sorry God) how could I be so stupid! I had forgotten to point out that I couldn't go to my house. Where am I going to go then?
Wait.....I know.
" Actually Jasper I don't think I can go back to my house tonight. Do you mind dropping me off at Eleanor's instead?" I ask him.
Jasper remembers what I had said about earlier and gives an I'm a dumb ass expression and I give a soft laugh in response.
" What will you do there if you go?" He asks me.
" Probably just sleep on the floor behind the counter. There are a few aprons that I can stack up to use as pillows to sleep with."
Jasper laughs aloud. A big laugh. He thinks I'm joking. Great.
" You're joking, right? You're not actually spending the night on a cold bakery floor are you?"
The seriousness on my face answers for me when he looks back at me.
" Oh," he says turning back to the road as he turns right.
" What's wrong with that?" I ask.
" Chloe you're not going to do that. You can't sleep there. It's not safe, sanitary-"
" Since when do you care a sanitary?"
" Since I found out my friend is going to sleep in it." He says taking a left on the next street.
My heart pounds at what he just said. Friend? I didn't really think he thought of me as a friend, just an acquaintance.
Friend. I can deal with it.
" Actually, Eleanor's is the other way," I tell him.
" I know."
" So then why are we going this way?"
" Becuase we're not going to Eleanor's."
A feeling of panicking rises in me. I can't go to his house, Jackson could be there. After his little freak out you never know what that guy could do.
" Jasper I can't go to your house. I-"
" It's alright. We're not going there anyway."
" Then where are we going?"
" To fun." He says girly high pitch voice, trying to mock me for earlier.
" Not funny," I say.
" So you can say it, but I can't?"
" Where are we going?"
I didn't realize it until I look out the window to see the beach resort that Grey's owned. The Golden Palace is what its called. It was painted white, with beautiful golden and blue lights, glowing up the entire beach resort, and the nice looking palm trees and flowers that were in the front of the building, the awesome chandeliers that you could see even from the outside of the building looked amazing too. No wonder it has the name that it does. It looks just like a palace.
No. No. No. No. No. I think to myself.
" I can't go in there!" I say to Jasper, " I can't afford it."
" Don't worry. You don't have to pay for it."
Jasper parks in the resorts parking lot and takes out his keys from the ignition, " Let's go inside." He says with a smile.
" No."
" Yes."
" No."
" Yes."
" No."
" No."
" Yes- Goddammit!!"
Jasper laughs, " Ha! I win! Now c'mon let's go....to fun!"
" You are not going to let me live that down will you?"
" Nope. Now c'mon, I'm starting to get hangry."
