Eclipso the Demon of the Shadowlands

Powers and Abilities

Soul Absorption: Eclipso consumes corrupted or troubled souls, and with each soul, his powers grow stronger. He seeks out a target and then inhales their soul through his mouth, relishing on the essences that he has consumed. This leaves his victims as piles of ash.

Darkness Detection: Eclipso can sense the inner darkness within souls of people brought into his presence, allowing him to identify which targets to feed on.

Hypnosis: Eclipso has the ability to hypnotize his victims when the diamond is raised to the wielders right eye. The glow from the diamond places his victims in a deep trance, making them highly suggestible. This allows Eclipso to directly influence their minds. He was able to use this ability this without the diamond, as he did to the Richie's Diner waitress, Maria. However, after being freed from the diamond, this hypnotic ability is no longer his primary power.

Telepathy: Eclipso has telepathic abilities that he uses to influence, control, and manipulate his victims. His telepathic powers appear to be stronger than those of Brainwave's as shown when he was influencing the minds of several people at once all without being anywhere near them, whereas Brainwave had to be within the person's proximity.

Mental Illusion Casting: Once his victims have been placed under his influence, Eclipso can use telepathy to create, shape and manipulate his victims minds to see what he wants them to see. These mental illusions can be used as distractions, causing the target to lash out or feel inclined to act in a way they normally wouldn't. For example, Eclipso made Artemis Crock believe that S.W.A.T. agents were about to murder her parents, which triggered Artemis to react aggressively and attack one of the agents. The agent was actually a surprised Courtney Whitmore. When his hallucinations pass, his victims are left confused as to what happened or why they acted that way. He can use this power on multiple people at once, driving a group of his enemies to suffer the mental hallucinations of their worst nightmares. These hallucinations appear as real as anything else and are not limited to the visual, but vanish the second he's finished with them. He also uses this power to project a less threatening version of himself in the form of a young Bruce Gordon. The child appearance gives his enemies pause and allows him to move undetected.

Subliminal Messaging: Eclipso has the unique ability to implant his thoughts into another person, making them believe the thoughts they are having are their own. Once he implants his messaging, he can manipulate how the victim sees their surroundings to better force the victim to act out his will.

Fear Projection: The ability to sense the greatest fear of someone and make them believe their fears are coming true. Eclipso used this power on Bobbie Burman, preying on her fear that she would never escape Cindy. He also sensed the fears of Wildcat, Hourman, and Doctor Mid-Nite to carefully select the right mental hallucinations to make them suffer.

Possession: Eclipso has the power to possess humans. When Cindy became threatened by Bobbie Burman, he possessed Cindy and killed Bobbie. When Eclipso's powers grew, he could possess people without the need of the Black Diamond, such as Paul Deisinger. During the JSA's final battle against Eclipso, he forced Courtney to say out loud that she hates him, thereby embracing her inner darkness and allowing Eclipso to get his hooks in her and possess her body, which also allowed him to wield the Cosmic Staff.

Dark Energy Manipulation: Eclipso can generate and manipulate blasts of dark energy, as he did at The American Dream when he charged at the JSA and blasted them back with a shockwave. He also did this to blast a hole through Solomon Grundy, killing the beast.

Superhuman Strength: Eclipso has superhuman strength that allows him to inflict serious damage on others, beyond the scope of normal strength. He tore one of Shiv's retractable wrist blades out of her body, and lifted her off her feet with ease. He also caught the cosmic staff in mid-air with no difficulty, and threw the Shade a considerable distance. Eclipso's offhanded backhand flung Rick with enough force against a column that it actually broke one of the boy's ribs, when none of Artemis' attacks, whom Rick fought beforehand, seemed to deliver. When Pat tried to attack him, he sent him flying into a wall just by lightly hitting him. Eclipso later kicked a concrete cupola off The American Dream's roof. He was even able to block an attack from Solomon Grundy, and send the giant beast flying by hitting it away.

Superhuman Speed: He has the ability to move at an inhuman speed. This was first seen when he escaped BVHS on all fours, smashing through the cafeteria doors in the process. He used this ability again when he scaled The American Dream building.

Superhuman Durability: Eclipso's durability against otherwise lethal attacks is one of his greater attributes, allowing him to stay alive in otherwise deadly situations. He survived a full attack by S.T.R.I.P.E., multiple blasts by the Cosmic Staff, and blasts from Jennie's ring. He was also relatively unphased by a giant chainsaw tearing at his body, showing that he is not only durable, but also heals at an accelerated rate. He also survived multiple lacerations by Wildcat, Shiv and Solomon Grundy.

Teleportation: Eclipso is able to teleport from one place to another through unknown means. When Jennie-Lynn Hayden reconstituted the black diamond with the power of her ring, it summoned Eclipso. He immediately vanished in a puff of smoke when he threw the diamond at Courtney's feet and sent her to the Shadowlands. He also teleported around The American Dream to confuse the JSA when they came for him, and finally, when he crossed a great distance to choke Courtney. He seems able to vanish and reappear in the blink of an eye.

Weather Manipulation: While not an entirely conscious power, Eclipso's very presence brings out the darkness in others and the area that he inhabits. Blue Valley, Nebraska suffered an usually dreary Summer due to Eclipso's presence. They were the only city in the state to have such weather. The JSA were ultimately able to track Eclipso, while he was inside the diamond, through the electrical interference his presence caused. Once he was released, however, he was no longer capable of being tracked this way. However, his presence still forced the residents into stormy weather.

Astronomical Manipulation: When Eclipso was freed from the black diamond, a lunar eclipse appeared in the sky that many residents of Blue Valley witnessed. The eclipse ended when Eclipso fled following his confrontation with the JSA and The Shade. Another lunar eclipse appeared the night Eclipso attempted to merge the earth with the Shadowlands. It is unknown if the lunar eclipse was a conscious action on Eclipso's part.

Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven the Hunter

Afflicted with a cancer that sealed his fate, Kraven sought to perpetuate his ancestor's traditions by seeking a glorious death at the hands of a worthy opponent, leading him to his last Great Hunt in New York City. He ruthlessly hunted down and killed many infamous supervillains and famous heroes alike.

Sergei Kravinoff was born in 1951, older son of Nikolai and Anna Kravinoff and the half-brother of Dmitri Smerdyakov. In his youth, Kraven and Dmitri were hunting partners while also being half-brothers by blood. However, Kraven's treatment towards Dmitri becomes even more bitter and nearly attempt to assassinate each other.

Over the years, Kraven had become a great hunter with a passion for big game, capturing several hunting trophies, which he considers more of a religion or a philosophy than a sport. It is said that his first prey was a man-eating lion that had killed several workers in a mine in Rwanda, a fight that was not easy for him, being the first time he was close to death, since then, he uses the lion's mane as an ornament on his vest as a reminder of the smell of death. Kraven's popularity as a hunter grew and he soon recruited an army of international mercenaries whom he trained in the art of hunting, presumably operating as poachers. At some point, Kraven snuck into the African nation of Wakanda, where he hunted a war elephant without being seen, being the hunt of which he is most proud. At some point, Kraven domesticated a Siberian tiger that he named Dima.

After having a family with his wife and the births of a daughter Anna and two sons Vladmir and Nedrocci at Volgograd, Kraven part ways from Dmitri, who then becomes a criminal called the Chameleon and temporarily had normal lives during the first game. Apparently, he is very abusive towards his family, particularly Sasha and Nedrocci, but praises Ana for further following their family traditions.

At some point, Kraven was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Rather than let illness claim him, Sergei sought to die how he had lived: as a hunter. He began searching in fervor for an opponent capable of overpowering and killing him in battle, a death he believed was "worthy of him" before cancer left him unable to fight anymore.

Kraven is a behemoth of a man, towering over the average human and having a bulky, muscular build. He sports a black and grey beard, as well as black hair with a man bun in the back. Kraven does not wear a shirt, exposing his muscles, covered by a black and yellow tactical vest patterned to display the lion of his family crest. At the top of said vest, there is a huge collar made out of a brown lion's mane. Kraven also has multiple animal skulls he wears, such as one on his waist, right arm, and more. He also has multiple pieces of animal skin and fur stitched into his clothes. And finally, he has a necklace showing predator fangs.

Kraven is a ruthless, yet cunning hunter, typically trying to find the worthiest of prey. After discovering his cancer however, he wished not to die as a sick man, but as a man who wished to die at the hands of an equal. He cared very little about the people he hurt, even those who desired not to participate in his hunts, such as Martin Li or Curt Connors. He believed that among many of the villains and heroes of New York, he would find his equal and nearly did, when Spider-Man, under the influence of Venom, attempted to strangle him to death. He was, however, denied this, thanks to Miles Morales. Despite this, Kraven was not yet ready to surrender and would finally take joy in the fact that, following his encounter with Venom, he found the equal he sought for so long, dying happy.

Kraven takes great pride in holding the title of the world greatest hunter. This led him to push himself to peak of human physical limits and skills. After accomplishing number of challenges, he truly starves for a worthy challenge. He even displayed an incredible amount of patience, as noted when he spent hours waiting for an alleged worthy challenger to detect him. When facing Spider-Man, Kraven shows enough empathy to sense the raw aggression of the Symbiote and is even enthralled by the possibility of finally finding a worthy fighter to defeat him.

Kraven has also shown himself to be a deeply spiritual man, as he still prayed every time before a hunt, as his mother had taught him to do so. As his age starts to catch up with him and he begins struggling with a terminal illness, Kraven also begins to display deep insecurities. Because Kraven's own followers view him as some kind of quasi-deity, Kraven is desperate to not die on a sickbed. Kraven desperately wants to be slain in battle by an opponent whom Kraven deems worthy of killing him. He fears that this terminal illness will weaken him, and this will lead to an opponent, whom he deems inferior to him, being the one to slay him.
