Chapter 1: Time Restart
Aftermath of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans

I hope this gives you guys an idea how to do the aftermath of the Rise of Titans.
The battle against the Arcane Order was brutal. So many lives were lost. Draal gave his life up when he took a blast to save Jessica. Nomura against the Nature Titan. Strickler sacrifice his life to stop the Ice Titan. Merlin from the Arcane Order. Nari against the Ice Titan. And Toby against the Fire Titan. They lost so many friends and allies. They won in the end... but at a terrible price.
"The Time Stone." Blinky said in awe.
"What if it wasn't the Titans this was meant to make right?" Jim said.
"What do you mean?" Claire said.
"Time unfolds differently, like a flower." Jim said.
"Only the Trollhunter will know." Kai said.
"Know what?" Krel said.
"What really happened. "Time unfold differently." If I go back, things will happen differently." Jim said.
"And maybe it'll be worse. We barely saved the world this time." Douxie said.
"Time isn't something to meddle with, trust me." Barry said remembering when he created Flashpoint.
"But at the cost of so many we hold dear. Draal, Nomura, Nari, Strickler. Tobias." Blinky said.
"But if things can happen differently, Jim can save them all." Aja said.
"For the good of all." No matter what happens, if it's meant to be, it will be." Jim said.
"Master Jim, if you do this, you alone will be burdened by what could have been." Blinky warns Jim.
"Shouldering burdens is what heroes do. You taught me that." Jim said.
"I have cherished every moment with you. In these few years, you have grown into a man. A man of courage, wisdom and honor. I could not be more prouder of you if you were my own son." Blinky said as he cries with Jim as they hug.
"I will see you again, James Lake Jr. Somewhere, sometime, our story will continue." Blinkous said.
"And if we are meant to meet, our stars will align." Aja said.
"We believe that." Krel said. As they finished, Claire hugs Jim one last time.
"Whatever happens, don't give up on me. Don't stop trying until I love you." Claire cried.
"If we're meant to be, I will always be here... and here." Jim said as they kissed once more.
Jim grabs the Time Stone and began to to use it to go back in time.
"Whatever happens next, I'll make sure this isn't goodbye. I promise." Jim said as he was sent back in time.
And so Jim changed time. Back to when his adventure started as the Trollhunter, only this time, he let the amulet choose Toby instead of him.
Jim sat in his window, watching the Domzalski house, spinning his phone on his desk. It was getting dark, he'd seen Toby return home about ten minutes ago, clearly in a hurry. He spun the phone again, watching Toby's window as a blue light flickered in there.
Any second now.
The phone rang, Jim smiling, taking a second to breathe before picking it up, answering.
"Hi Tobes..." He started, before being interrupted.
"Jimbo! You are not going to believe...! You said to go through the canal, and I did, and I found something! You are not going to believe this!"
"Calm down, Toby." Jim grinned, watching the flailing shadow in the window across the street, before focusing on the yard again. "Deep breath, what did you find?"
"A talking amulet!"
There, something quick but big moved over the fence and slunk in behind the house, followed by something smaller and less nimble.
"Like a toy?" Jim asked, scanning the yard, but he didn't spot either Blinky or Aaarrrgghh again. They knew to keep out of sight from the street.
"No, not like a toy! It said my name, Jim! It knows who I am! It's super freaky!"
"Sounds pretty cool..." Jim tried his best to keep his tone light, like he wasn't taking it seriously.
"It's not! I mean it is kind of, but... It's weird! I can't get it open or anything, and it's all glowy, and I..."
The silence stretched, until Jim asked gently.
"Tobes?"
"I heard something."
"It talked again?"
"No, from downstairs... Nana is definitely sleeping, though."
Jim got up, trying not to let the excitement into his voice. "It's probably just the cat. Do you want me to come over?"
"Yes! I'm going to have a look, just... Hurry?"
"I will." Jim promised, heading out of the room, just as there was a startled whimper from the other end of the line. "Toby?"
"Oh my god..." Came a hiss, a low rustle in the back.
"Jim, there's something here..."
Jim rolled his eyes at Blinky's antics, but did his best to sound surprised. "What is it?"
"It's... I don't know, it's... AAAAAHHHH!!"
And then, faintly, over the phone. "It's Aaarrrgghh, three R's." Which nearly had Jim burst out laughing as he skipped down the stairs.
"Toby?"
But all he got was muffled screaming and scuffling until he was almost across the cul de sac. Then Toby came back, whispering in a terrified voice.
"There are monsters! Don't come, save yourself! They're huge! Aaaah! They're outside the door! Jim, you have to run!"
"I'm not leaving you!" Jim assured him. That was the point of all this after all. Saving Toby. And Jim knew there was no danger in that house part from Mrs. Domzalski's cooking. So in he went, following the sounds of scuffles at the top of the stairs.
"Blinky, he looks scared."
"My good fellow. Do you mind? This is a moment of some solemnity."
"Solembely?"
"Solemnity, means serious and dignified."
"Dig-oo-nified..."
Jim peeked up the stair, finding Aaarrrgghh's backside sticking out of Toby's door, repressing a grin.
"Please don't eat me..." Came a whimper from inside.
"Aaarrrgghh, do put him down."
"Yes, please put me down..."
There was a yelp, presumably as Toby was righted out and put down. Aaarrrgghh moved into the room, Jim sneaking up the stairs.
"Where was I...?" Blinky mused over some scrambling, probably Toby trying to get away from them.
"Found you." Aaarrrgghh supplied.
"Ah, yes! Master Tobias, we have found you! You have been chosen. The amulet of daylight challenges you to ascend to the most sacred of offices!"
"No thanks!"
"Orifices?"
"Offices, means responsibility. Master Tobias, unbeknownst to your kind, there is an entire world, living and breathing beneath your very feet. A civilization made up of trolls, vast and varied, and in dire need of your help."
"Trolls? What?! How?!"
"Trolls! Indeed trolls! And it is now your duty to protect them, because you, Master Tobias, are the new Trollhunter!"
"Trollhunter!" Aaarrrgghh echoed, and honestly, Jim could not resist.
"Trollhunter?"
He'd have to assume that if anyone had seen him have this very same conversation in his basement, it would have looked just as strange. Toby was half climbed up on his desk, trying to get as far from the trolls as possible. Blinky was in the middle of the room, arms spread, clearly very pleased with his pitch. Aaarrrgghh was next to the door, and turned as Jim entered the doorway, looking at them. There was a moment of silence as all three blinked at him, before Blinky yelped, jumped and scurried to hide under Toby's desk, eliciting a little yelp from the human as he pulled his legs up to let him.
Aaarrrgghh spun a little on the spot, before grabbing the cover on Toby's bed, draping it over himself, and hunching down. It still only covered the tops of his shoulders, so it was not very effective. Toby suddenly realized what was happening, and launched himself at Jim, giving the trolls as wide a berth as he could before reaching him and trying to escape out the door.
"I told you not to come!"
"And I said I wasn't going to leave you. Besides...
They don't seem dangerous?"
"What?! They're monsters, Jim!"
"They don't look that scary. And I don't know if you've noticed, but they seem pretty...." He trailed off, looking at the very ineffectual hiding spots.
"Um... Nonthreatening."
Toby glanced back, relaxing, marginally. "Maybe..."
"Who are you?" Jim asked, stepping inside, trying very hard not to just launch himself into Blinky's arms as the troll crawled out from under the desk. Same with Aaarrrgghh, who carefully lifted the cover to peek out at him. They were here, and this time, he could keep them safe. Well, safer. All of them. He felt Toby grasp his hand, squeezing it back. This time, none of them were going to get hurt.
"I'm Jim. Seems like you already know Toby."
"Ah, yes. Hrum..." Blinky straightened himself out, pulling himself to his full height. "You may call me Blinky. And my very good friend, Aarghaumont, or Aaarrrgghh, as he likes to be called."
Aaarrrgghh pulled the cover off, putting it back on the bed. "Nickname."
"So..." Jim asked, glancing at Toby, before turning back. "What's this about a trollhunter?"
There was a twinge in Jim's heart, watching Toby standing in his backyard, turning the amulet over in his hands. A small part of him that wanted to have that power back. He did feel pretty vulnerable without it, and Toby was, understandably, not very keen on facing Bular. To be fair, Jim hadn't been either. But he pushed it down. He had the advantage of foresight, of who their friends and enemies were, or at least who had the potential to be such. With that, and Toby as the trollhunter, they should be able to make it. He knew there was no way they'd believe him. He'd end up telling them sooner or later, but for now, he had to let Toby find his footing as the trollhunter, before anything else.
Then the question became, what else could he change, and should he? He knew it would be a while before Aja and Krell showed up, but Douxie was here, Jim already knew him. Well, knew of him. Tomorrow he'd talk to Strickler, he was fairly certain it wouldn't take much to get him and his mom together, and that was the key to get through to him. Nomura he wasn't so sure of, hopefully Toby would never have to brave the darklands, never have to be that scared and alone, but it did mean that bond with Nomura wouldn't be there. Unless Jim went. Which he was unsure he could survive as just squishy human Jim.
But he could save Draal, and he knew where Merlin was, he knew Bular and Gunmar's plans. Maybe he could even get through to Angor Rot. Question was how.
"By the glory of Merlin... Wait, that Merlin? Like Arthur's Merlin? Camelot and all that?" Toby asked, and Jim had to brace himself. Camelot had been a bad time, hopefully they could avoid that little trip as well.
"Yes, that Merlin, now please, read the whole incantation." Blinky urged.
"Wicked... Ok, ok." Toby took a deep breath, turning the amulet slowly in his hands. "By the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command."
For a moment nothing happened, and Jim would have been worried, but he remembered it had been a hot second before it had activated for him as well. The lights on the street flickered, the wind picking up. And when the little blue lights appeared out of the amulet, he stood up from where he'd been sitting on the stoop, letting out a little gasp of wonder.
The armor pieces materialized, floating into place around Toby, who looked a bit nervous to be floating, but managed not to squirm as they connected around him. Kanjigar's armour was too big on him, just as it had been for Jim, but then it morphed to fit him, better than the armour Merlin had made for him last time. The lights flickered into his palm, forming the huge cleaver that passed as a sword. Toby was pulled down with a yelp as it became real, and it dug into the ground. Then it shrunk, fitting itself to its new wielder. And there he was, Toby the Trollhunter, hefting Daylight experimentally, before a huge grin broke over his face. "Ok. Ok... This is pretty cool." He admitted.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool." Jim agreed, grinning back.
Blinky nodded, solemnly. "Now, I suggest we don't dally. Like I said, Bular is already hunting for you, and you do not have the luxury of time."
"Dude, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, I can't just..."
"Toby, this is kind of about life and death." Jim pointed out, Blinky nodding eagerly.
"Yes, heed your friend, Master Tobias. Bular will not pause for you, you must not waste a single moment."
"I'm starting to feel like this is a bad idea..." Toby admitted, lowering the sword. "You sure someone else shouldn't have this? I always felt more like a sidekick, you know? They're always more fun than the hero, anyway."
Jim stepped forward, putting his hand on Toby's shoulder. "You might not feel like it, but you are a hero, Toby. You always have been. And you don't have to do this alone. I'll be with you, every step of the way."
Toby smiled at him, seeming at least a little reassured. Blinky stepped forward as well, hands clasped gently, head tilted.
"Master Toby, if I may..." Jim stepped back, letting Blinky do what he did best.
"Destiny is a gift. Some go their entire lives, living existences of quiet desperation, never learning the truth that what feels as though a burden pushing down upon our shoulders is actually a sense of purpose lifting us to greater heights. Never forget that fear is but the precursor of valor, that to strive and triumph in the face of fear is what it means to be a hero." He took Toby's hand, helping him lift the sword again, holding it upright. "Don't think. Become."
They watched the trolls disappear over the fence, Toby still turning the sword back and forth in his hands. "You're very calm about all this."
Jim blinked a little, before sighing. "I guess... I'm sorry."
Toby shook his head. "No. No, it's nice. I feel like I'm about to pass out from information overload, it feels comforting that you're here. Like, I can wake up tomorrow and be all like 'Was it real?' and you can be all 'Yes, it was real I was there', and I won't feel like I'm losing my mind."
Jim smiled, bumping their shoulders together. "I told you, I'll be here."
Toby nodded, finally relaxing enough that the armour went away, the amulet dropping into his hand.
"I still feel like it's not supposed to be me. You've always been more the dashing hero, you know. You're ever going to play Romeo."
"I haven't gotten the part yet." Jim pointed out, Toby rolling his eyes.
"Oh come on. You'll be great. And then you get to hang out with Claire Nuñes and be all smoochy-smoochy..."
"I think we just got some bigger problems than my lack of a dating life." Jim pointed out, Toby huffing.
"What kind of a wingman would I be if I let such a little thing as the revelation that there is a whole secret society of trolls, both good and apparently incredibly evil and bloodthirsty, living right under our feet and the fact that they're apparently gunning for us right this moment get in the way of your shot with Claire?" Toby demanded to know.
"Well, if it's so important to you..."
"It is." Toby emphasized. "I need one of us to have a normal life, even if this does blow out of the water." He leaned back against the door, looking out over the yard. "I guess it's better me than you. You have so much on your plate. You'd run ragged."
"Probably." Jim agreed, trying not to sound like he knew all too well.
"Well, I guess if I don't have a choice, I just have to do what that Mr. Blinky said... "
"Which is...?"
Toby sat there, for a moment, in the last fading light of day, and Jim could see a shift in him that he honestly hadn't expected.
"Become."
