Chapter Seven
Meghan's P.O.V
When we enter the house, I feel a little calmer. It has been so long since I last saw Drake and Evie and seeing them again today just makes me feel so guilty. I never feel guilty about anything but when I am around the two people that supported me during my childhood, I couldn't help but feel anxious. I mean, I did do them wrong but I didn't know what to do at the time so I got caught up in the moment and did what I thought was okay.
I drop the umbrella onto the ground, not bothering to hang it up on the rack and I make my way towards the stairs. Well, that's what I planned until Hannah jumped in front of me with a concerning frown on her face.
"Where were you two?" Hannah asks, her arms crossed over her chest and I move around her and walk up the stairs.
"Shopping, obviously." I say before entering my room. I close the door behind me, not bothering to lock it and place the bag of stolen clothes on my bed, walking over to my window.
I open the window and stick my head out, breathing in a sharp breath of the cool air. After doing this for a few minutes, I decide to strip out of my clothes and wear something comfortable because to be honest, all of this leather is suffocating my skin.
Once I am in my red laced undergarments, I walk over to the wardrobe and grab out the only thing that reminds me of home.
My brother's t-shirt.
I throw it over my head and take out my hair tie, letting my blonde hair fall down my back. I let out a sigh and walk over to my bed, falling down on it.
I hear someone knock at my door and I let out a sigh. "What?" I ask and the door pushes open to reveal a concerned Jake. I sit up and cross my legs, facing the boy. He closes the door behind him and walks over to my bed and sits down at the edge of it.
"My mom wanted me to check on you." Jake says and I roll my eyes.
"I'm not doing drugs or planning to sneak out so there is no reason to be so damn overprotective." I mutter and Jake shrugs.
"My mom is just concerned."
"Well she isn't my mom so I don't care if she is concerned. I don't care if she is angry, happy or sad. I just don't care!" I say the last bit a little too loud as my fists curl in a ball, anger rushing through my tone as my mother appears in my mind.
Jake frowns and furrows his eyebrows at me. "Are you okay?" Jake asks and I roll my eyes.
"Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?" I ask and Jake let's out a sigh.
"You seemed a little nervous with Drake and Evie and ever since we got home, you have been acting strange." Jake says without thinking and before he can apologize, I glare at him.
"Don't you fucking question my actions just because you think you have the right to because you don't..." I snap, making Jake stand up as he sends me an apologetic look.
"I-I'm sorry." Jake says and I roll my eyes again.
"Just get out already." I say and Jake closes the door behind him and I let out a groan, falling back onto the bed.
"I'm such a bitch."

I roll around in my bed, trying to at least get some sleep for tomorrow but I just can't seem to get comfortable. After tossing and turning for five minutes, I decide to go and get a drink.
As I leave my room, I head downstairs slowly as it is pitch black and stretch my arms out in front of me. I manage to find a light switch and I flick it on, squinting my eyes when the light hits them.
I walk into the kitchen and grab a plastic cup out of the cupboard, placing it on the counter. I go over to the fridge and pull it open, my eyes scanning the beverages in it. My eyes land on apple juice and I grab the bottle out of the fridge and place it on the counter. I close the fridge with my hip and grab the apple juice again, walking over to my cup.
When I am finsihed pouring the apple juice into the plastic cup, I put the apple juice back in the fridge and then drink the apple juice instantly. When the cup is empty, I put the cup in the sink and begin to make my say upstairs. As I go to walk into my room though, my head turns as I look down the hallway and I notice that Jake's light is on.
What is he doing awake at this time? Homework?
I find myself walking away from my room and towards Jake's room. When I push the door open though, my mouth drops and my eyes go wide when I see Jake on the floor... working out.
Jake instantly looks in my direction and jumps up, running over to his shirt that is on his bed and throws it over his head as fast as possible. I frown at his actions but don't push on it.
"Your awake." I say, trying to erase the image of Jake's toned stomach in my mind but it doesn't seem to work. Jake looks away and scratches the back of his neck.
"Y-Yeah..." Jake says and I walk in, ignoring the look on Jake's face. As I take a seat on Jake's bed, I look up at him with a grin.
"I didn't know you worked out. That's really attractive." I say, not able to take the grin off my face. Jake blushes and slowly nods.
"Thats what Emma says." Jake mumbles and I raise my eyebrow at him.
"Does she like you?" I ask and before Jake can answer, my eyes go wide and I point at Jake. "Or do you like her?" I say a little too loud and Jake's eyes widen.
"N-No, I don't like Emma. She is only a friend in m-my eyes." Jake stutters and I nod slowly, looking down at my nails.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, Jakie." I say and all of a sudden, there is an uncomfortable silence in the air that I want gone but when I open my mouth to say something, no words come out.
I look up at Jake to see him looking down at the floor and I let out a sigh. "Jake..." I mumble, watching as Jake looks up from the floor, his blue eyes landing on me.
"Yeah?" He asks, his voice coming out in a quiet whisper. I pat the space next to me, wanting him to come sit down and he hesitates, slowly looking around as if people are watching us.
After a few seconds, Jake sits down on the bed and I turn to face him, crossing my legs so that I am somewhat comfortable. When I look into Jake's blue eyes, I can't help but let my mind wonder to my brother who also has the same eyes as Jake.
Unfortunately.
I shake my head, pushing away the thoughts and rub my eyes, trying to not pass out right now. What? I am so tired and the thoughts that keep dragging me away from reality are making me sleepy.
"Can I ask you a question?" I ask and Jake nods, his eyes staring deeply into mine. "Why are you the person you are? Why don't you take risks and live life to the fullest? Why are you this shy boy who likes to stay away from trouble?" I ask and Jake bites his lip and shakes his head.
"Have no idea." Jake says quickly and before I can push the conversation further, he stretches his arms above his head and gets off the bed.
"Okay, well, I'm going to bed since it's late." Jake says but I don't move. I continue to stare into Jake's eyes, trying to find out the mystery behind them.
He is definitely hiding something.
"Uh--" Jake looks around awkwardly and I narrow my eyes at him.
"If you want to go to bed, just do it. No one is stopping you." I say and Jake scratches his neck, pointing at the space I am sitting on.
"T-Thats the side I sleep on." Jake mumbles and the seriousness from before drifts away as I let out a laugh.
"Oh," I say, getting off the bed. " Well, I guess I am stopping you." I say and Jake nods slowly. He gets onto the bed and lays down. After a few seconds of me still standing in his room, he sits up and furrows his eyebrows at me.
"D-Did you need something?"
"Nope." I say, popping the 'p'. I walk over to his door and send him a wave before slipping out of his room and making my way towards my own.
Wasn't that awkward, my brain mutters and I nod in agreement.
Jake, your hiding something and sooner or later, I'm going to find out. Even if it isn't from you but from someone else...
And I'm going to start with Hannah.
