Chapter Seven
"So how did your date go with that cute guy last night honey?" Mom asks, as she scrambles the eggs in the pan. It was a Sunday morning; I sat at a light brown wooden table in the kitchen munching and crunching on a small bowl of Lucky Charms.
But, I was just trying to eat my cereal when my mom had to bring up the fact that I had gone out on a "date" with one of The Charmers and I was bound to not make this moment awkward by keep quiet.
"Mom, please stop, ......his not hot and we never went out on a.....date " I lie, with my mouth full of cereal. "Don't lie to me, I'm your mom. So tell me about the date?" She asks.
Before I can answer her annoying yet awkward question, my iPhone buzzes inside the pocket of my black sweat pants and I immediately dig in my pocket and snatch it out.
On the front screen of my phone, it says I have an iMessage from Kevin Parker. I open it up and read his text:
Hey, tonight, I want you to sneak out and come to explore Seattle with me, buttercream baby.
Kevin Parker
No I don't want to go anywhere with him.....
I'm lying to myself, but, I don't care I don't want Kevin nor would I want to sneak out and go somewhere with him.....
I reply to his message:
Ok, I'll come but, dude stop with these weird nicknames you give me. It's creepy me out. Bye!!
Jessica Ryan
I send it and slip it quickly back into.
"I'm going to get some air outside with Cuddles." I sit up and run upstairs to grab Snowflake, my furry white puppy, who was biting on his fake hot dog chew toy.
I get him and carry him in my arms downstairs. Outside, the rain has dried up a little from yesterday's thunderstorm but, there are still puddles flowing the sidewalks of my neighborhood.
I put her on the leash and begin to walk Snowflake around. "Hey, don't you go to Washington High?" A familiar voice behind me asks.
I quickly turn around to find Matt Summers, shirtless only wearing a pair of grey basketball shorts and Nike shoes. His tan skin sparkles in the light and the sweet smile on his face is totally hot.
"Uh, yea." I tell him and turn back around, focusing in walking Snowflake. "Your dog is cute." He compliments. "Thanks." I say, flatly.
"Hey, Jess I found something of yours yesterday."
"What is it?"
"Your notebook. Science notebook."
"Thanks, Matt."
"No problem."
It seemed weird that Matt was acting so normal, instead of being so mean and pushy, I guess I'm starting to the believe the saying that: "Looks can be deceiving."
He hands me my notebook politely and grab it softly and slowly.
"Your not so....mean outside of school. How is that so." I ask him. "I don't know. " He answers.
"Hey, Jess, I was wondering if you would want to hang out with me at this cool concert after school on Monday. It's downtown. Would you like to come?" He asks, shyly.
Why is he so shy and nervous around me??
His shyness and the true colors of his feelings make me kinda rethink about The Charmers but, I still don't like them. Never will.
"Are you.....asking me out on a date?" I tease him, giggling softly. "Um...no. were just hanging out." He lies.
"Whatever, you say, pal." I chuckle, turning around and walk over towards my front door.
"You never gave me an answer." He reminds me. "Yes, yes. I will." I answer him.
I walk inside and run upstairs, sitting Snowflake down. I flip through my notebook and I unexpectedly find Matt's phone number in here.
Oh no he didn't.....
I grab my phone and play some pop tunes while I begin to pick out an outfit to sneak out with Kevin tonight.
I keep getting this gut feeling that everything is going to change once Kevin fully enters my life and for sone reason, I'm starting to believe it.
While I hum along to the generic pop songs, I fold my clothes and sit them on my dresser.
I lye down on my bed and fall asleep listening to The 1975, wildly dreaming of Kevin Parker.
