Three:

The next day didn't start out exactly as I planned.

I travelled the hallways until I reached the principal's office. I stepped in front of the door and reluctantly knocked two times.

A knot formed in my stomach. I hadn't been called in this office since freshman year. And the first time was just for Mr. Brunner to congratulate me for my full presence during the school year.

What would he want this time?

As I recalled, there wasn't anything bad I could've done. I'd always been one of the rare exemplars of students who treated school seriously. Sure, I didn't have straight A's, since I was a total airhead, which was an impediment to tests, but I did have decent grades.

"Come in," I heard a voice speak from behind the door. I took a deep breath and pressed the door open.

The office was just as I remembered it. Small yet elegant with leather arm chairs, a polished desk and hardwood floors.

"Hello, Bree," Mr Brunner, the principal, greeted from behind his large desk. His glasses were placed on the tip of his nose, just as he always wore them. They looked as if they could fall any moment.

He gave me a lopsided grin as I stood down on one of the arm chairs.

"Hello," I replied in a more anxious manner. "Why did you call for me? Did something happen?"

"No, no, no," he shook his head, "Well, yes. I mean, nothing happened, but there was something I needed to talk to you about."

I swallowed. "Okay. What is it?"

Mr. Brunner leaned forward in his leather chair, his gaze directed at me as he spoke. "Listen, Bree. I kept checking the school's blogs, the Eagle High Blogs, going back and forth through the posts and comments, and I realized something. And since you are one of our main bloggers, I thought I should talk to you first."

Oh. So it's about the blog. Phew.

I'd been a part of the school's blog ever since it had been created, which was a couple of years back. I'd used to love writing then too, and Mrs. Bowl, the Literature teacher suggested me as a potential blogger.

The blogs were mostly dedicated to the students, a way for them to get together through different, intriguing  posts. I had used to spend all my afternoons coming up with new ideas for the blog, from interesting stories about (anonymous) students in our school which they agreed to share, random jokes, and all kinds of funny pictures to make the blog fun and addictive.

Blogging was my second favorite activity. Quite nerdy of me, isn't it?

I nodded, my shoulders relaxing. "Oh, alright."

"The thing, is, Bree..." Mr. Brunner cleared his throat. "Uh, how do I put this... Your blogs with cats doing funny tricks are very cute indeed, but I think the blog should cointain stuff more... Um, interesting."

I let that sink in. The lump in my throat falled into my now tied stomach.

It was true. Lately, I'd developed some sort of addiction towards pictures with cats and videos with them doing funny stuff, and I figured - why not post them on the blog? Because let's face it. Who doesn't like cats?

I admit it, though. I might've gone a little bit overboard with my cat pics.

"So what you're saying is that my posts are not interesting enough?"

He swallowed nervously, opening his mouth and closing it back again. "Um, well..."

My eyes widened. "Oh my god. You don't like my posts, do you?"

He pursed his lips, averting my penetrating gaze. "It- it's not that I don't like them, I mean, everyone likes cats... "

Fair enough.

"... But I just don't think they attract attention anymore. People are kind of tired of the same posts with cats, you know? You used to blog so many interesting things, Bree. What happened?"

I chewed on my lower lip. "Well, I guess I was just... I don't know. Losing my inspiration. I was also busy with school, and... Blogging became my second top priority, I guess."

"I get it, Bree. You're young. You always have something to do. But -"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Brunner," I apologized, "I promise I'll try my best next time."

He frowned, small wrinkles appearing on his forehead. "You don't understand. There might not be a next time."

"What...? I'm - I'm being fired from blogging?" The words tasted awful in my mouth. Even pronouncing them made me feel sick.

"Well, you can still blog in your free time -"

"No," I shook my head desperately, "No, no, no, no. I love blogging. It's almost as good as actual writing. Especially on the school's website, where the students in this highschool actually care about my opinion. You can't take it away from me. Please."

The principal eyed me with sympathy, the lively glint in his grey eyes fading at my sight as if it actually pained him to say these things to me.

"Actually, I was about to give you an ultimatum. You have two days to find something new and interesting to post. I'm sorry, Bree, but that's all I can do for you. Mrs. Bowl told me to transmit this to you. The blog is more accessed than ever. Apparently all the students check the Eagle High blogs section daily for new 'juicy updates'. Her words, not mine." He chuckled ever so slightly, and took off his glasses.

"Since the blog is so active, we can't afford to bore people away. Eagle High has become a popular highschool in town because of its interesting blog."

A wide smile grew upon my face. "Oh, thank you so much. I get it, and I really appreciate the second chance. I won't let you down, I promise. You, Mrs. Bowl, or the students in this school."

"I'm glad to hear this, Bree," he gave me a genuine smile. "It would be a shame to lose you, really. You have always been one of the most talented bloggers here."

I got up from my seat, my face painted with a yet another large smile. "Thank you. So, two days you say?"

"Yes."

"Great." I turned around in my heels and readjusted the school bag on my back. "I'll get to you in two days."

He nodded. "Okay. Bye, Bree."

"Bye."

I opened the door and exited the room in quick moves, hoping Mr. Brunner wouldn't notice my frightened expression hiding underneath the smile stuck on my face.

I was terrified. There was no reason to deny that.

I couldn't lose this job. Well, it wasn't a job per say, I don't know what it was, more like voluntary work for the school, but I didn't care as long as I knew that I didn't want to lose it.

I still didn't find it right that they would want me out just like this. I'd been blogging on that website for two years now, and suddenly I wasn't good enough anymore?

We were four bloggers in the whole school. Why get rid of one?

No. You can't lose this, my inner voice pressed on. Just find something interesting to post and everything will be okay.

Yeah. Easier said than done.

I strolled down the empty hallways. I was crossing the paths to my current class, but there was only half an hour left of it. If I had the guts, I'd be skipping it. But of course, I wasn't going to do that.

I took the corner to the next corridor, and found one of the least pleasing views possible.

Michael Langwood.

Okay, okay, the view was rather pleasing, but it was the idea of him that didn't appeal to me.

Fortunately, he hadn't seen me yet. He was about ten feet away from me, his back pressed on a locker. His hands seemed to be holding something that must've been his phone.

In the pale light of his phone screen, his face looked even more handsome than usual. His dark hair had the usual wilful messy look and his deep brown eyes looked almost silvery, framed by his now furrowed eyebrows as he looked concentrated to whatever he was doing.

In moments like these, I remembered why I'd had a crush on him in the first place.

Snap out of it, Bree, my inner voice broke me out of my daydreams. He's a jerk, remember?  Plus, you have other things to think about. The deadline for the blog is in only two days.

Right. I had yet to find a solution for that.

And that's when it hit me.

The answer was standing right in front of me. Literally.

Everything that had happened yesterday on Wattpad - Michael's account and our conversations- all flashed before my eyes. I remembered what kind of screenshot my phone was possessing.

My saving grace.

I knew right then and there that I had found my interesting.

And it was all thanks to you, Michael.
