Chocolate Cake

Marinette

At this point, my heart was racing, beating faster than I thought was possible. Everything was perfect! I was feeling genuinely happy.

Adrien suddenly pulled the chair backwards so that I could sit down. The sometimes rude and arrogant boy I had met tge first day I came here, had turned into quite the gentleman. Unless he always had been.

"I bet you weren't expecting this, were you?" He asked with a giant smirk on his face.

"Not at all. If this is how you try to het on my good side after I got mad, keep doing it." I laughed and so did he.

"Well, I thought it was about time we had a proper date. I thought you might be troubled with the fact that we were just making out." He said as he sat down, facing me.

"You figured that out? By yourself?" I said in disbelief and doubt.

He lifted his glass and took a sip of his wine. "Yes. Why? Don't you think I'm smart enough?"

I don't know why, but something inside of me told me he didn't figure this out on his own.

"Anyway, let's enjoy this." He changed the subject.

I took a minute to study his face. Handsome and perfect, as usual, but there was something else in there. It was hard to recognise at first, but after I looked at those deep green eyes of his, I knew. He was nervous, maybe a little scared even.

And oh I felt the irony in the air. Before, he was the experienced one and I was at the exact position he was in now. He may know how to kiss, but I know how to date. Because before coming here, Alya had set up thousands of dates for me, saying she was managing my social life, and even though almost none of them ended up successful, I knew how to keep thinga awkward-free and fluent. Oh how the tables have turned.

"So, um, were did you go after you left today?" He asked.

"I just wandered around campus. It's actually bigger than I thought." I said taking a sip of my wine.

"I think it's just right. It has a place for everyone."

I raised an eyebrow at his strangely philosophic words.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"You've suprised me with a date, a chocolate cake which you know I love, and you seem noticeably mature tonight. What happened to the other Adrien?"

"Again, why do you think that there are different versions of me?" He asked with a genuine smile.

"Well if there aren't any then that just means you're using a mask." I said.

"Pardon?"

"You keep acting like a cool bad boy, when in reality you're not. You couldn't be more different from that personality you're so desperately trying to adopt. What I don't understand is why. Why are you trying to become someone you're not?"

His expression changed to a more serious one. Perhaps I shouldn't have asked that. Maybe the answer is darker than I thought.

Seeing where this was going, I stopped him before he could answer.

"Answer this honestly, Agreste. Have you ever been on an actual date ever before?" I asked, completely changing the subject.

The nervous smile he had on before appeared again.

"Is it that obvious? I look nervous don't I? Well, the answer is no." He smirked.

"Now how can that be? Someone of your experience is bound to have had a date or two."

"Well not this guy." He said.

"Why not? You've seen many girls."

"Yet none of them deserved a date."

"Oh? And what makes me so different?" I asked.

"Well, it's because you're you. Yourself. Ever since I met you thers hasn't been a girl that I could say resembles you. You are unique." He said, taking me aback with what he had just said.

I could feel my cheeks blushing a little. How the hell was he so good with words?!

"But anyway. Let's eat the cake. I didn't bake it for it not to be eaten."

"You baked this?!" I stared at him in disbelief.

His smirk grew wider as he placed a piece on my plate. It looked amazing.

"Okay, if this tastes good, I will never joke about your baking skills ever!" I said.

"Then go ahead my dear." He grinned.

I delicately held the fork and broke a piece apart. As I tried it, I couldn't helo but close my eyes to enjoy it. It tasted delicious. I dare say that it was even better than papa's.

"H-How?" I eclaimed, and he smiled victoriously.

"I guess I'm just that good."

"I guess you are." I said.

And we spent the rest of the night talking, drinking and finally falling asleep on his bed.
