Epilogue

2 years later

Time.

It was a strange word. Sometimes, it went fast, like when you're on a date with a really hot guy who is actually pretty nice and won't end up murdering you in the end because he doesn't like the way you chew food. Sometimes, it goes slow, like when you're at a boring meeting and you have to pee (I have an exceptionally small bladder, not that anyone needed to know that information.) And other times it has no meaning, like when you have the unfortunate of being a timelord (Ha! Doctor Who reference there, get it?) or when you're drunk.

Anyways, that had nothing to do with any part of this story. I just wanted to start off with something dramatic because Scar was currently in tears. And I mean like, he was full on bawling. I would never have imagined that a guy like Scar, all tough and rough on the outside, was such a softie. I doubt that even Bogdan could hurt him this much.

You want to know why he was crying?

It's really funny.

He had just finished watching The Lion King.

"Fuck, Genevieve, I can't believe you would make me watch something like that." Scar grumbled. He didn't want to admit he was crying but I mean, come on. Everyone with a heart cries during Lion King. He bought a cigarette from his pocket and a green lighter. Just as he was about to light it, I smacked it out of his hands which resulted in a silent huff of annoyance.

"Not so manly now, huh?" I chuckled heartlessly.

His tears gave me life.

Scar didn't answer. Instead, he opened his arms. Without hesitation, I walked over and curled into the safety of his arms. His muscular body was hard and warm. It was a comfort after everything that's happened. Bodgan was still alive and running around Chicago. He was a feared leader. No doubt another army would be built soon. And then there would be that inevitable manhunt for Scar and I.

Marie strode through the doorway. Her blue eyes trailed over the numerous crumpled tissues on the floor to the musical ending credits still playing on the tv to us cuddled up on the couch. A smirk appeared on her face.

Coming back home after being kidnapped by Scar was a struggle. At first, there was a lot of shouting matches and threats of being grounded. Then there was the tearful hellos and I missed yous and I'm going to rip your throat out Scars. You know, the usual. At least my father and Marie had forgiven us both. And by some miracle, also allowed us to continue seeing each other. I had a suspicion that Marie had a part to play in that, although she never said anything.

"Your father will be home in a minute." For some reason, she sounded ecstatic. When I looked at Scar, he was staring at Marie with pressed lips. That was strange, but then again, I had been drugged and kidnapped to Chicago and witnessed the death of a good friend while rescuing my boyfriend from a dangerous mafia who had also died in an explosion caused by my boyfriend, and then been kidnapped by the leader of said dangerous gang so I wasn't the best judge of what's strange and what's not.

As if the universe had decided to conform to Marie's words, my dad walked into the room. He was wearing his suit and tie (don't break out into that Justin Timberlake song just yet) and glasses that made him look like a nerd. Marie and him shared a quick kiss. Scar quickly straightened up in his seat. My father still had a small amount of displeasure for what happened two years ago but accepted the fact that his teenage daughter was and always will be in love with a criminal.

Suddenly, Scar stood up. He looked unusually nervous and stuttered when he spoke. "Mr. Warrens, may I speak with you privately?"

Oh crap.

After a moment of awkward silence, my father nodded. He and Scar walked into the kitchen together, shutting the door. Marie took a seat next to me on the couch. She turned off the television and faced me with a smile. "Remember that day I took you to the mall instead of school?"

"How could I forget, Marie?" I smiled at the memory. "That was the day you told me the truth about Scar. I came home and I thought so much about what you said."

"Well, whatever I said before, I take it all back now." Marie took my hand into hers and held it there. For a second, I knew how it felt to have a real mother. That feeling may always be fleeting, but it was there. "Scar is a good man and I'm happy that he keeps you happy. That's the kind of love that will last forever, Genevieve. Don't let him go."

"I won't." I wanted to say more but Dad and Scar came out of the kitchen just then. My father looked strangely happy and Scar looked nervous even though he kept his face composed. They were both silent. I wanted to laugh at how awkward the atmosphere just got but it was just too...awkward. Laughing would be totally inappropriate. Scar walked over and pulled me up, a soft lingering kiss placed on my cheek. We couldn't do much because my father and Marie were standing right there.

"Kitt- Genevieve." he quickly corrected. Scar moved back a few feet and took my hands into his. After two years, he still called me by that pet name. "I love you, okay? I love you for than anything in this world. You are my world and I don't ever want to lose you. I know we've been through hell and back, and I know that Bodgan will never stop chasing us-"

"Wait just a second." Dad interrupted. "Who the hell is Bodgan? Genevieve, you never mentioned anything about-" Marie slapped her hand over his mouth, thankfully.

Scar shook his head and continued. At first, I didn't understand what was happening or why he was saying all these things (sweet as they were, it was a bit embarrassing in front of Marie and Dad) but then it slowly clicked. The strange looks, why he was acting so nervous, and why my father and him needed to talk privately. My heart began pounding.

"-and I'm sorry for what I put you through, kitten, but those experiences made us who we are now. Even though we had to kill people-

"Excuse me?!" My father roared. Even Marie looked startled. Okay...so we did keep some parts a secret.

Scar continued like there was no interruption. "You were by my side and for that I'll be forever grateful. You can be annoying sometimes, a bit stubborn and very strange, and you keep on telling me these dumb facts about animals that I don't care to know, but that's what I love about you. I love you, Genevieve." Scar went down on one knee, his eyes shining.

Oh God.

Oh dear God.

I think I choked on my spit.

"Genevieve Renee Warrens, will you marry me?"

Before I answer that, let me do another one of those dramatic speeches.

Scar was a dangerous criminal and I probably should have run far, far away when we came back home but I couldn't help falling for him. Falling deep and fast even though I knew it was wrong. But sometimes, you can't help it. Sometimes, the heart goes against everything that is irrational and that's a good thing because it makes us who we are and it makes life interesting. And it would be one hell of a story to tell people.

"Yes! I love you, nipple."

"I love you too, kitten."
