A/N: Welcome to my Klance adaptation of TBBW! If you somehow missed it in the description, TBBW is a story originally created by @RiteMeowRed, so my thanks to her. Please enjoy!
Keith continues his eventless college life as he goes into his second year. He had already accepted his role as just another student attending just another university, and just another citizen trying to get by in his big and bland city. He slinks through the city crowds, gray umbrella tight in hand. Rain beats down on it relentlessly, collecting at the tip of the canopy and falling to the puddles at his feet. Musky rain like water dirtied with colorless paint floods black streets and the worn white paint lines. Monochromatic cars honk back and forth at each other as faceless people in dark coats migrate across the streets. The only light that seems to stand out among the rain and invariant coloration is the bright red of the stop lights, stirring up impatience and frustration. Hidden beneath it all, Keith manages to sidle back to his lone apartment without going noticed.
After jamming metal keys into the lock, creating a klinking noise that results in a headache, Keith finds himself in his one room apartment. Two, though, if you're willing to count the combined kitchen and living room just as well as his tiny bedroom. Letting out a long sigh, Keith looks around at the familiar space and wonders not for the first time if he should finally paint the blank walls.
He tosses his keys and umbrella, as well as his other things, on the carpet floor and heads immediately to bed after changing into more relaxed clothing. Keith stares up at the white ceiling fan hanging over his head. The name is Keith Kogane. His grandparents came from Korea. His parents are well off enough that he doesn't find himself worrying over paying the apartment bills. Never has he been torn apart by a torn family. He makes good grades in a good school. He can afford to treat himself with the extra money he makes at the corner grocery mart. He is completely and utterly gay. Life hasn't treated him all that bad, but none of the above makes for much of a Tinder profile. The truth is, as dumb as it is and as much as he hates to even admit it, Keith just wants to find love. It isn't all that dumb, is it?
Keith's stone hard heart grows weary with splintering cracks that seem to wound his whole being. The longing swallows him whole. The worst of it is, in all his pain, he is the only one there to hold himself. Sometimes, he only wishes to go back in time to his childhood full of simpler things.
However, he's about to find out how nice that kind of extreme ignorance could have been. Love and a deteriorating childhood is the least of his worries. Only when he learns this will he truly wish that he could go back. But going back is not an option. As scary as it is, he must learn to push past wishes and regrets in favor of going forward.
