"What do we do?"The gang asks

More and more questions spilled out in worry or confusion. Then there were tears and arguing or the blame game.

Horror tuned it all out though.

"Horror Bear?"Lust says

He looks at Lust and nods to nothing.

"Nightmare always thinks ahead."He says

Horror checks under Nightmare's lamp as an entry suggested in the journal, finding a purple crescent-shaped jewel under it. He takes off the crown and places the jewel in the crescent hole in the crown. It fit perfectly. He puts the crown back on and looks around. He was amazed, seeing the red strings and numerous in groups hanging around them. But whenever the strings tried to touch them, a purple glow would come from the gifts Nightmare gave them and knock the strings away. He sees some going for Lust and pulls him closer, causing the strings to flee.

"You see them too, huh?"Lust says

Horror nods.

"Nobody take off the gifts he gave you unless you want red strings to capture you."He tells the others

Then he spots a red string hanging down with bits of Nightmare's goop and torn fabrics that he recognized from Nightmare's clothes. He tugs it down and gets pulled upwards. He saw other strings going into different worlds and zipping past him. He looks around when it all stopped to see that he was in a dark green-shaded void that was so empty. The only thing that brightened the void were the strings and his glowing red eye. The strings began to spell out words and he glances at them.

"I tried to twist him but he is too stupid and stubborn. Disobeying me for a 'family' that's completely useless. I tore what I could from him. You can take him if you are dumb enough to care, he is worthless now. Always have and will be."He reads

He hears coughing and looks over. He gasps and runs over to a lump of a body laying on the ground.

"Nightmare!"He exclaims

He then froze and felt his soul sink, seeing what was done to his friend. His bones blurred with colors, hardly white anymore. His clothes were torn with hardly anything left on him, his eyes shut but clearly not the same and glitching from head to toe. He was unconscious but Horror scooped him up quickly, waking him up slightly. Horror quickly tried to ease his mind, not knowing what might've been twisted up.

"Don't worry, Nightmare. It's me, your friend Horror. I'm taking you somewhere safe. Here, take my jacket to warm up."He coos to Nightmare, wrapping him up in his jacket

Nightmare closes his eyes and Horror hugs him close.

After a quick call to Error, Horror brought Nightmare back to the castle, setting him in a bed while they try to figure out what to do. Horror went to talk to Error about what happened and came back to see if Nightmare woke up, only to find an empty bed.

"GUYS! Where is Nightmare?"He yells

"YOU LOST HIM?"Dream snaps

"Dream, you were supposed to watch him! Don't get mad at Horror!"X!Chara snaps

Meanwhile in another wing of the castle, Nightmare was waking up in a different room. He was just starting to see things clearly when he saw a stranger holding a video camera with a blinking red light. But Nightmare's twisted mind was unaware to what it was and quickly grabbed the purple fabric on him as he tensed up. He glances at the blanket, finding it comforting. But the red light glows brighter, catching his attention and keeping it.

"Well look who decided to wake up! Nice new look, Nightmare and welcome back! Just wait until Killer finds ya!"Dust says

Nightmare froze up in alarm, not recognizing Dust as a friend. He felt movement behind him, not knowing that it was Killer.

"Hm?"Killer says

"Oh!~ Guess I spoke too soon. You gave him a special welcome, didn't you?"Dust says teasingly

"Shut the hell up, Dust. I was just waiting for him to wake up."Killer says

Light green tears filled Nightmare's eyes and the glitching intensified.

"W-Wiccaphobia Hydrophobia Aulophobia Testophobia Iophobia Sciophobia T-Tachophobia Homophobia Algophobia Taurophobia?! "What?"Killer says, setting an arm around Nightmare

Nightmare screamed for Horror, shoving Killer away and spotting Horror's jacket on a chair. He leaps out of bed, putting it on quickly and punching Dust when he got too close. The coat drooped on Nightmare's small body, covering him as he ran through the halls that felt like a maze to him. He saw Xavior and gasps, zipping to his side in tears. Xavior looks at him and smiles, reaching out to hug him. Nightmare shakes his head, looking scared. Xavior quickly caught onto why.

"O-Oh! You have a fear like Error, don't you now? Fear of being touched or you'll crash?"He asks

Nightmare nods, though didn't know who Error was.

"SomEoNe caLl mE? Oh."Error says

Nightmare looks at Error in pure awe and goes to him curiously. Error exchanges words with him and quickly picked up on his glitched language. Error looks over at Xavior.

"I'lL eXamiNE hiM."He says, earning a nod from Xavior

Error leads Nightmare away to his room where he examined his wounds, his mental state, and what works for him. He gives Nightmare puppets before filling Xavior and Horror in on things. Nightmare ran off to get clothes and happily used the puppets to hug others despite his phobia.

Horror approaches Killer who was with Dust.

"So...I hear you stole Nightmare from the room I set him up in and scared him. I notice this pattern of you scaring him whenever something happens to him."Horror says

"He bitch-slapped us!"Dust says

"Because he didn't recognize either of you! Fate twisted his mind and he was scared half to death by the mysterious black box you were holding, Dust. He was tortured for crying out loud and was expecting to wake up to me, not that incident. And to clear up your confusion, he speaks in phobias from what Error says. He cannot be touched or he will crash like Error. His voice may increase in pitch at the first letter or sound of a phobia's name or in a word at the definition, so listen for that because that's how he gets his message across now. Error can't really change it without messing with core code. He remembers Dream, his bullies, Triton and Xavior, but everything else is jumbled up. Apparently I unraveled his memories of me by showing him kindness so he knows me now.....He loves seeing stars, reading his journals or scrap-books, watching UnderNovela or OceanTale, and playing with puppets. He uses puppets to touch others for him and with these resources his memories are being helped by the minute. There's a lot to work on but I just wanted to inform you. Lust is taking him to introduce him to AUs again and to show there are safe places again.....I'll let Error fill you in on his medical findings."Horror explains

"He was wounded?"Killer asks

"Bruh he was naked in bed with you."Dust says

"I was guarding him, not nursing him yet."Killer says

"Well, see Error for details and DO NOT get touchy with him or someone will lose their hands."Horror says, walking away

Killer went to see what Error had found. Meanwhile, Nightmare was with Blue and Lust, learning about the AUs and technology again. They were in UnderSwap, having just finished teaching about friends, foes, and the phone that he forgot even existed when the phone started ringing.

"Oh! Looks like you have a friend checking in! Go on and answer it. We'll go to OceanTale next."Blue says

Nightmare curiously answers the phone and says hello in his glitched phobia speech.

"Nighty. I want names right now."Killer growls on the other end

"Hm?"Nightmare says confusedly

"I want names of every asshole that hurt you or I'll just hunt them down and kill them myself."Killer says

"P-Pyrophobia Lutraphobia Ecophobia Algophobia Sciophobia Ecophobia D-Dentophobia Oenophobia Numerophobia Oenophobia Taurophobia!"Nightmare says

"Nighty, I know what they did to you. You shouldn't even be out there with those wounds. Now, I love you but don't like you scared or getting hurt. My knife is getting soaked in blood one way or another, so give me their names."Killer says

Killer could hear his alarm and took some deep breaths to calm down.

"Nighty, it's your Killsy. I know you can't remember me after all you've been through, but I'm your boyfriend. I....was the guy in bed when you woke up. Sorry for scaring you, dear. I was just worried about you and so glad to have you back. I wanted to hold you close so I don't lose you, I didn't know about your fear....But I will get revenge on those who hurt you. Nobody gets away with that."Killer says

"....."Nightmare had no response but his face started to glow a bright aquamarine.

"Nighty? You still there, my little moon?"Killer asks

Nightmare's glitching intensified and he couldn't see anymore. He had a serious softspot when it came to affection from Killer, even if he doesn't remember. His words made his soul skip a beat. It was even worse since he had completely forgotten that someone loved him so much. He didn't understand what or why this was happening to him and whimpered.

"Nighty?"Killer says

"Nyctophobia, the fear of the dark growing worse................"Nightmare says

"It's dark? You're scared?"

"Mhm..."Nightmare hums

"Don't worry, Nighty. I'm here and Lust shouldn't be that far. Take some deep breaths and everything will be okay."He says

Nightmare listens and was eventually able to see.

"......T-Thanks......."Nightmare says

"You just spoke clearly! You're recovering!"Killer says excitedly

"YoU lOvE mE? i nEvEr tHoUgHt oF fAlLinG iN lOvE....WhAt do We cAlL eAch OthEr?"Nightmare asks innocently as Blue leads him away

Killer relished in his innocent, pure joy. Nightmare was so curious and sounded so happy about it that he found his Nighty so adorable.

"I called you my Nighty and you called me your Killsy."He says

Nighty hummed softly with a gentle sigh, loving the sound of it. To Killer it sounded like an adorable purr.

"KilLsY.......Hehe! I liKe iT! KiLlSy!"Nightmare says

Blue leads Nightmare to OceanTale that merged with PirateTale. They land on some docks and wander about, Killer still talking on the phone to jog his memory and put him at ease. Nightmare would vaguely refer to his experience or catch himself before talking about specifics, but Killer pieced it together.

"Hey! We're going to find Pirate Boy so he could direct us down a safe path! We know you love ocean animals so we can show you them!"Lust says

Lust and Blue left Nightmare sitting on the phone with Killer. Nightmare was very happy chatting with him. It felt like all the passerbys giving weird looks or problems all went away hearing Killer. But then a group of strangers surrounded Nightmare and when he looked up to them, he could see they didn't have good intentions.

"H-HelLo....CaN i HeLp yO-Ah!"He begins but then two shoved him, knocking the phone out of his hand

"Nighty! What's going on?"Killer asks

The bunch of strangers, unknown to Nightmare as some of the worst pirates sailing the seas, kept shoving him further from the phone and calling him names. Eventually he crashed and they dragged him onto the ship.

By the time Killer arrived to look for Nightmare, the boat had sailed off and people were panicking about a kraken. He found Nightmare's phone on the ground and collected it. He quickly started asking around but many were more worried about a kraken that tore apart a ship. A pirate approached Killer.

"Hey, buddy. Not to be rude, but nobody is going to listen to you looking like that. Come on."He says

Blue and Lust accompanied the stranger.

"My guess is you can't find Nightmare either?"Lust asks

"It sounded like he was attacked and crashed."Killer says with a nod

The pirate leads them away and changes them into clothes fitting the AU. Then when they asked around, they started getting answers. Some saw Nightmare get dragged onto a pirate ship while others claimed that they saw that pirate ship sail away and get torn apart by a kraken.

Killer frowns. What did that mean for his Nighty? He stood at the empty docks, watching pieces of the broken boat float over. He heard a splash and saw two hands climb a pole of the dock. A Horror-looking, stranger peeked out from below the dock, glancing around before focusing on him.

"Umm, I think we have someone that belongs to you."He says

"What do you mean?"Killer asks

"Well, my friend looks like you...And he got fascinated by this glitchy guy on a pirate ship and called a kraken to get rid of the other pirates. He took the glitchy fella down to our cavern while he was rebooting. When he snapped out of it, he backed away and wouldn't let anyone touch him. He was confused by my friend and called him Killsy, wondering when he got a tail. And being that you look like my friend with a pair of legs, I'm guessing you're the one he meant."He says

Killer shows him the picture of Nighty.

"Yep, that's the guy. Just wounded in the pelvis and sacrum especially a lot more. Oh and glitching a LOT."He replies

"I'd like him back. I've been worried about him."Killer says

This AU's Horror nods.

"Only one problem. He can't walk or swim...And his phobia makes it difficult. But I'll try."He says, diving back underwater

Killer sat at the dock, waiting and preparing to care for his Nighty. Then he felt a change in his soul. He looks down to see it was turning to a square. He puts a glove in his mouth as he grabs it, molding it back into a upside down heart in the very least despite the pain. He wants to feel for Nightmare and a proper soul shape may put him at ease. He tosses the gloves aside once done.

"KilLsY!"A voice cheers

He looks to see Nightmare popping his head above the water surface. Horror peeks out as well.

"Just had to say that you're looking for him and he was zipping out, using arms and tentacles to swim."He says

Nightmare climbed up a ladder and his tentacles, also glitching, were revealed. He collapsed on the dock, now feeling the gravity and pain on his lower body. Killer reached out to him carefully, pulling him closer and laying Nightmare in his lap. He was shocked that he didn't crash. Nightmare seemed to notice and wraps a tentacle around him gently.

"I'm trYinG nOt t0 fEAr tHe tOuCh oF lOvED OnEs...StRaNgErS aNd JErKs gIvE mUch bETtEr ReAsOnS tO fEaR tHan yOu."Nightmare says

The Horror left by now, going back underwater.

"What did those pirates do?"Killer asks

"I d-don'T kNoW...OnE moMent thEy weRe geTtInG tOuChY wIth Me AnD gEtTiNg aNgrY wHen I rEfUseD to gEt nEaR tHem, tHe Next I cRasHed, rEbOoTed and wOkE uP to fInd yOu wiTh a tAil! My boDy huRtS...I caN't feEl aNyThinG beLow mY wAiSt."Nightmare says

Killer looks to see Nightmare's tentacles also wrapping around his lower body, shielding it from sight.

"Can I take a look? I may be able to help."Killer says

Nightmare nods, his tentacles going away from his lower body. He reaches for Killer's hand with one tentacle. Killer holds it and the tentacle squeezes his hand tightly.

"Don't worry my little moon, I'll take good care of you."He says softly

Nightmare smiles up at him.

Killer then looks to Nightmare's lower body and frowns. His legs were severely cut up or bruised, his pelvis had cracks or cuts all over as well as his sacrum with bits of blood. He quickly caught onto the pirates' intentions or aim since it was focused on the lower body and could only imagine the level of pain multiplied by his lover's phobia.

"Okay, Nighty. What I'm going to do is bandage these wounds up with a first aid kit and get you some proper medical attention. Is that okay?"Killer asks

Nightmare nods.

Killer cautiously tends to each wound with the kit. Then he rolls Nightmare up in a blanket he brought from home. Nightmare, now in a blanket burrito, snuggled up in the blanket with a purr-like hum to show his comfort and love, which Killer found adorable and put him at ease. Nightmare snuggled closer into Killer's hold.

"KiLlSy...wHeN i wAs rEbOoTiNG I sAw SoMeThiNg....ScARy.... FlAmInG skElEtOn mEsSiNg wItH yOuR sOuL anD eVerYoNe gEtTinG maD aT mE. I doN't wAnt To bE a ProBlEm oR lOse AnY0nE....AnY fRiEnds tHat i lOvE...He iS sCarY...I doN't lIke rEbOoTinG iF thAt's wHat I aM gOiNg tO sEe...AnD thOsE pIrAteS cAlLed wHat tHey dId tO mE thE bOnE zOnE. It'S scAry....KiLlEr, wHat's iT lIkE nOt tO fEeL? It mUsT bE sO mUcH bEtTer, beInG pAinlEsS...."Nightmare tells him

Killer practically felt his soul break hearing what Nightmare said. Then he smiles.

"I don't know, Nighty. Cause I've always loved you. And last I checked, that's feeling. I love you dearly. That flaming skeleton can't hurt you anymore. I'll get back at all who hurt you. I'm sorry those pirates did that to you, but the Bone Zone isn't always an evil thing if in the right context. Just letting you know. But NOBODY will hurt you as long as I'm here."Killer says

Nightmare snuggles closer to Killer, believing every word. Killer scoops him up and takes him away to get medical attention. He opens a portal, going through and admitting Nightmare to a hospital for professional care. After a few hours he was let into a room and Nightmare hugged him tightly, his glitchy appearance gone. He was in his passive, pearly white boned form.

"Our code experts fixed his code and our doctors fixed his physical appearance. Best for him not to shapeshift for a while. And his memory may need some time to fix itself in the right order, so prepare for random memories coming back to him."A doctor says as Nightmare hugs Killer's arm

Killer pays them upfront and leaves with Nightmare hugging his arm. Only then did he decide to fill everyone in on Nightmare.

"Soo, what do we do with the locket?"Killer asks

"You can destroy it. It was nothing but personal details that I thought Fate might use against me to hurt you guys."Nightmare says

"Alrighty."Killer says, crushing it

"Because I'll simply destroy the ones who work for him so nobody puts you all in danger again."Nightmare adds

Killer looks at him, quiet for a moment.

"And why is that?"Killer asks

"Cause I love my family."Nightmare replies

Then Killer snickers.

"Wha-? HEY! Don't laugh! I'm serious!"Nightmare snaps, pouting with fury

Killer found it adorable.

"I'm sorry, that's just one of the most precious things I've heard from you. You're adorable."He says

"Hmph. Don't believe me? I already got a yellow man to leave you all alone!"Nightmare says, hugging his arm tighter

"Yellow man? Do you mean Shattered?"He says

"He looked like Brother with tentacles. He told me that he'd back off for the next decade!"Nightmare says

"How lovely..."Killer says

"Things seem to be looking up!"Nightmare says

"Look out!"A voice yells

They both look over and get splashed with something before they could react.

Science runs over, having messed up another experiment, to see the damages. He gasps, then runs away while the chemicals had the two knocked out.

Nightmare woke up coughing and everything was blurry, spinning into sight.

"Killsy?"He calls out

"Nighty..."A little voice says

He blinks and everything clears up. He sees Killer beside him and quickly hugs him, then notices how Killer's clothes were bigger on him.

"Did those chemicals swink us?"He asks, then covers his mouth at the pitch change

Killer giggles.

"Nighty, let's just get home."Killer says, holding his hand

Killer tries to open a portal but couldn't. Nightmare couldn't either.

"Umm..."Killer says

He frowns, pulling his Nighty closer protectively.

A portal opens and they back up. Horror walks through and sees the child-sized couple looking up at him. Nightmare leapt to Horror, snuggling his fluffy hood in his arms.

"Hewwo Howwor! I missed you!"He says

"Science got us with an experiment."Killer says

"Ah, okay. Come before the strings get you."Horror says, taking Killer by the hand back through the portal

Nightmare smiles happily as everyone welcomes them back, happy to see them all still free and safe in the castle. Horror sets Nightmare down but he looks right back up at him curiously.

"How does it feel?" Nightmare asks

Horror realizes that he meant the crown.

"It feels ok. It's nice to see what you did and be able to protect like you did. You want it back?"He asks

"No. It suits you. And I want you to rememba wut I told you."Nightmare says

Horror smiles. Nightmare held his hand.

"Cuz you have a soul of gold and should always know that you are special."He tells Horror

Nightmare sees a pink glow above them and grins.

"What's up?"Horror asks

"Nothing.~"Nightmare says playfully, then skips away to chat with his family again

Dream was elsewhere in the castle.

Horror and Killer look at each other with shrugs.

"You come with us for an explanation."The gang says, leading Killer away

Nightmare finished talking with Xavior and Triton and they left with some kids. Nightmare saw another pink glow and smiles wider, shutting the door. He looks to see a winged skeleton hovering with long magenta and lavender robes tied by a belt. He smiles at Nightmare.

"Hewwo, Dovin. I haven't seen you since Underswap and OuterTale merged by mistake."Nightmare says

"Yeah, that was messy, wasn't it? Hehe."The other chuckles

Dovin then soars over, tiny little pink wings flapping. His heart-shaped eyes twinkle.

"I think you know what I'm looking for to do my job."He says

"Mhm. And I'm happy to do so."Nightmare says

"Who do I entangle for the lovely time of year?"Dovin says

"Hmm, Howwor with Wust, Dust with Bwue, Fell with Cwassic, Pawette with Goth, Reaper and Geno, Outer with Science....."He begins to list from all his observations

"And I'm guessing I put you with Cross and Dream with Killer?"Dovin says

"No!"Nightmare says, crossing his arms

"So vice versa?"Dovin says

"Well...I won't curse my brother with Cwoss. They can find their wuvs independently. I won't let that jerk use my brother wike he used me."Nightmare says

"Okay, I see. I'll get right on it. Remember, this stays between us."Dovin says

Nightmare nods.

"Also, we all need to catch up. The CAE will tell you when to meet."Dovin says, flying off and turning invisible with a snap of his fingers

Nightmare smiles, then hops into bed to nap. When he woke up, he climbed out of bed and smiles, sensing the aura change and seeing pink flowers hidden everywhere, giving an enticing aroma. He saw that Dovin had his influence on his friends. Classic sat with Fell, both smiling happily. Horror was eating with Lust, spaghetti for once. Dust and Blue had left to go for a walk and enjoy themselves. Outer and Science were stargazing elsewhere. Error sat with some chocolate watching UnderNovela and Ink wasn't too far away. Dream was nowhere in sight and Xavior was playing games with the children, all of them looking as happy as can be.

A flood of bunnies escaped Killer's room quickly, taking Nightmare along with them.

"Wooaaahh! Hey! What the-?!"He yelps as they tug and basically drag him in the stampede of fluff outside

The bunnies pin him down in the garden outside, others picking flowers. Next thing he knew, they were making a flower crown on his head. He giggles and then a bunny slid a ring on his finger. He looks over confusedly and the bunnies grin, hopping around. One brings a book over and another flips through the pages, landing on one. Another gets a small container of something sparkling, tapping it to the page and then tossing it at Nightmare. Other bunnies fled back inside to get Killer.

Nightmare sat up, very confused as some bunnies sprinkle bits of glitter, one doing a chef's kiss once done. He looks to see he wore overalls with a lavender shirt underneath and little shoes on his feet. Bits of glitter were on the clothes, adding a bit of twinkle to the outfit. He looks in the nearby pond to see the same could be said for the flower crown and there were bits of glitter on his cheeks looking like freckles that now sparkle on his face. The bunnies seem to talk amongst themselves and hop around with this smug or mischievous looks in their eyes.

"What is this for? What are you pwannin'?"He asks

"Gah! Wuby! Cut it out! What has gotten into you? Hey!"Killer squeaks

The bunnies push Nightmare to his feet and another group kept pushing Killer forward. Then they left Nightmare alone. Killer sees Nightmare, quickly becoming a blushing mess as he connects the dots.

"Bunnies! No! Stop! Bad bunnies! Vewy bad bunnies! Wut did you do to Nighty?"He exclaims

One throws the book to him and he looks at it before quickly sending it back to his room with magic.

"Nonono! Stop! Bad bunnies! You are ve-Gah!"He exclaims, then gets shoved forward by Ruby

A pink string appears around Killer's wrist and Nightmare smiles slightly.

"Killsy! Wut did your bunnies scheme now?"He asks

"I didn't have dem scheme nofin'!"Killer says defensively

Killer sees Nightmare up close and feels his face get warmer. Nightmare rests a hand on his cheek.

"Are you ok?"He asks

Killer feels the ring on his finger resting against his cheek and his face went a deeper red.

"Bunnies! You are in so much twuble!"Killer says

"Are you ok?"He repeats

"Nighty, take dat off now pwease."Killer says

"What?"He says

Killer takes his hand and slips the ring off.

"You didn't notice?"Killer asks

"I was focused on you, Killsy."He says

Killer's face burns even more, now looking nothing but red.

"We gotta find a way to turn back..."Killer says

Nightmare tugs him down to lay with him. He rests Killer's head in his lap. He takes a cloth from the overall pocket and soaks it in the pond, squeezes it out, and lays it on Killer's head.

"Feel betta?"He asks

"You're gettin' too cute to handle, Nighty."Killer sighs

Nightmare's cheeks glow a bright purple, the glitter the bunnies put on him only twinkling more. But he frowns and lightly hits Killer on the head.

"Stop avoidin' the question, Killsy! Do you feel betta?"He says

"I feel gweat wit you, Nighty."Killer replies

Nightmare smiles. That made Killer faint.

"Killsy?!"He exclaims

Least to say, Killer couldn't handle this holiday with his lover. He kept worrying Nightmare with his fainting moments. But they loved each other and enjoyed the time as long as it lasted. Killer eventually had the idea to bathe with him and Nightmare in a sauna like place to ease any pains Nightmare's wounded regions may be giving him. Plus he enjoyed relaxing with his boyfriend. But he made sure to hide the ring away. Not doing that yet.

Though they didn't have a clue that danger was closer than they thought.
