THE BAY

Belleny snarled her lips in a grin, mouth parted, hands on her hips and looked with satisfaction at the figure in the mirror. She was ready to take on the world and the only opponent was staring back with a shade of familiarity. For being so damn smart, she felt immature, like a freshman with a crush. She hadn’t been in love in a long time, so why was today any different?

Her brown hair flipped up in a wave and cascaded down bare shoulders. The halter top fit snugly around her neck, but the lack of cleavage did nothing to hide the fact she was a woman. If her clothes weren’t so tight, perhaps she would be able to pass as mediocre, but her whole life had been spent in tight clothes. She wasn’t about to change today, and why should she? If they couldn’t take her seriously for her accomplishments, they could go to hell.

Her plan was simple. Present her proposal, save the human race, fulfill her life-long dream of helping humanity reach the next star.

But she needed to be included in that plan.

Behind closed doors, in the privacy of her own bedroom, she had mentally and physically prepared to be an astronaut on the space ship she had helped designed. She only created a small portion but she was the brain child behind the most important part which would allow the apparent mass of the ship to approach zero, and then the propulsion system could actually get the bloated ship up to speed.

It all seemed simple except she was too damn pretty. What was happening inside her head anyway? Sometimes she wondered that herself, as she stood in the mirror and admired the goddess staring back. She knew she was the complete package, from head to toe. She was the type of girl who made a person want to get wet. The proof was right in front of her, undeniable, real, alive. Her sexuality had always been a nemesis to be battled, a blemish on her character, a defect to be hidden. That’s what she wished for, to be a little more ordinary so she could fly under the radar. But that isn’t what fate had in store. Her destiny lay elsewhere, beyond her good looks, off the planet, and out in the stars. She felt alive and powerful. No one could stand in her way. Not her boss, not Space Gen, not society.

Perhaps that was her biggest obstacle.

  Society.

End ch. 1
Hello awesome readers and writers. Never give up on your dreams.

I have a question for you to answer. Does this kick butt, yes spend another year writing it, or no, go back to the drawing board.

There will be 6000 words left before you have to decide. Thanks. Feel free to DM as well.

Now, continue ch 1.

Perhaps that was her biggest obstacle.

Society.
