CHAPTER 1:

~~Sick Baby~

INTRO:

"Deal, I say

Before hearing screams coming from upstairs,

I bring her downstairs, giving her more medicine,tears still streaming down her face.

"Poor Baby" I whisper holding her closer to me.

MUMMA I hear jolting me awake, I roll over avoiding squashing the baby and check the time it's 5:23 am,

"Mumma" I hear again, so I grumble getting up, why?, Lola has been so fussy and hasn't wanted to sleep, so I finally got her to sleep at 2 am,

I walk into Ava's room, being the sound coming from, For the first time since we have had her she slept in her own bed, she was knocked out. I walk in to see Ava standing up on her big girl bed with tears streaming down her face

"What's wrong baby," I ask scooping her up

"Hurting" she says and I bring her down to the kitchen placing her on the bench, well trying to since she is super clingy and doesn't want to go down, sighing I place my hand on her forehead and she is burning up, so I get the thermometer out, finally putting her down checking her temperature which is 102, which is high

"Fuck" I mutter

"Do you hurt anywhere else baby?" I ask her and she points to her head, so I walk over to the medicine cupboard and get some baby Panadol, giving her the recommended dosage followed by handing her a sippy cup full of water. It's 5:30 so she would be up in an hour or so.

"Do you want to watch a movie baby?" I ask her

"Yes please," she says and we walk over to the living room

"Barbie or toy story," I ask

"Toy Story," she says before seeing her baby doll "Baby?" she asks

"Yes you can go and get your baby," I say starting the movie whilst getting a blanket, she grabs her baby before making her way back over to me on the couch, instantly cuddling into me, so I cover us with the blanket and start the movie.

I don't know how but we must have fallen asleep because I was awakened later on by Saskia jumping next to me on the couch

"Sassy" I hear Grayson say

"Sorry daddy" she replies, and I open my eyes

"Good morning mummy," she says, and I open the blanket so she can scoot in closer to me

"Morning Sass," I say rubbing my eyes with my only free hand, I look up and see carrying Lola down the stairs then placing her on her mat so she can kick her legs around

"Morning," I say

"Oh, hey Avie," he says, and I shake my head

"What happened this morning?" He asks

"Ava woke up at 5 with a high fever, so I gave her some medicine and we fell asleep on the couch" I explain looking down at my sick baby

"Cool, I was worried when I woke up, to find just me and the baby," he says pointing at her before cooing

"So, you've had a good morning," I say

"Well to start its only 7:30 but, Sass woke up at 7, and Lola just woke up needing to be fed," he says, and I watch him pick her up and start to rub Lola's back putting her to sleep, I smile in admiration, I think this can work.

"You're a good dad," I say, and he replies with

"I try my best to be a good dad... and husband" but we get interrupted by Saskia

"Mummy?" she says

"Yes Sass"

"Can we have some food?" she asks, for some reason, she always asks me for food, never her 'father', is slightly irritating if I'm being honest.

"mmm, ask daddy," I say, and she leaps off the side of the couch that we were on to where Grayson was sitting

"Daddy, mummy said that um to ask you for some breakfast," she says and Gray looks at her

"I don't know Sass," he says and her face falls

"Just joking baby, let's go to the kitchen," he says standing up grabbing her hand

"I'll meet you in there," I say picking Ava up taking her to her room

"I love you, Ava Maree," I say placing her in her bed pulling the covers up, then meeting the rest of my family in the kitchen, which Grayson gets out the ingredients for pancakes,

I get the utensils, and Saskia pulls herself onto the kitchen stools. After we have everything laid out and ready I take the now sleeping baby and put her in her rock n play so we can cook together as a family. In no time the pancakes are ready.

"Do you want chocolate Sassy?" I ask

"Yes mummy," she says

"What else Saskia," Grayson says to her while doing the dishes

"Please" she ads

"Good girl," we say, and I kiss her forehead handing her, the chocolate spread covered pancake.

"Tank you" she replies before stuffing her face.

...

"I'm gonna go and check on Ava," I say to Grayson before heading up the stairs

I walk up the stairs and into her room following the sounds of her soft snores, she has stayed asleep this whole time, I place a hand on her forehead again and she seems to be a little warm so I pull the comforter off of her so she cools down, a

After kissing her forehead, restarting the humidifier and restarting the white noise that she falls asleep to,

I walk back out of her room and into the living room, where they were all playing well Lola on her tummy time mat and Grayson playing Barbie with Saskia

"How is she?" he asks

"she felt warm so I took the blanket off her, but when she wakes up she will need more medicine," I say and he nods I look down at Lola and she holds her head up for a 10 seconds before dropping it, I pick her up in the excitement and cheer dancing around

"You did it, you did it" I sing while the other two look at me funny

"What! She held her head up" I say looking down at her and she gurgles, she turned one month old a couple of days ago.

"Mumma's so proud of her big girl now," I say and kiss her little nose, I sit back down holding the baby and get one of the girl's barbies playing, after playing for a while Saskia gets bored and moves onto something else leaving Grayson, the baby and I

"So," he says

"Yeah," I say crossing my legs

"Why didn't you tell me it's your birthday next Tuesday?" he asks

I am surprised he knows, I haven't told anyone its my birthday

"How did you know that?" I ask

"I saw Jake at the supermarket and he mentioned something about it and then Belinda asked the other night," he says

"Belinda? She hates that by the way... I should have to know that Billie would say that" I mutter the last part under my breath

"So I was thinking and maybe we should have a little get together," he says and I nod

"We could have our family's over- it would be a good chance to catch up with our family's and we could have friends over," he says

"Deal," I say before hearing screams coming from upstairs, I look at Grayson before heading up the stairs, doing my best to console a screaming Ava, I bring her downstairs, giving her more medicine before bringing her on the couch where her sobs have quieted, tears still streaming down her face.

"Poor Baby" I whisper holding her closer to me.
