Chapter 19
The drive to the mansion was silent, Greta had a scowl on that made Vincent keep looking at her, he kept racking his brain on what to do to bring her back from her stormy mood. He hated the fact that he was at the receiving end of her moods but couldn't do anything about it knowing it would only make it worse. He could only hope the food he was planning to make for her would calm her.
He sucked at cooking but efforts count right? He couldn't wait for his baby to be here. And he couldn't believe he asked for her to be away from their baby, at first he had thought she might want to take advantage of him once the baby is born but now that he'd been with her for months, He could see she wasn't a person like that, it reminded him of the reason he chose her again.
"Can you stop staring at me? It's creepy!" She barked at him to which he muttered a sorry and looked away, a blush appearing on his tan cheeks. It made her almost giggle but she held it in.
Then the mansion came into view, he could see the lights were on, did he forget to switch it off when he was leaving? At the same time Greta asked, "did you forget to switch off the lights? That's quite wasteful of you."
"I honestly thought I did but then again I was in a rush to leave so maybe I didn't." She scoffed and continued staring out the car window.
He slowed the car as he entered the garage and parked the car, all the while staring at the white Mercedes Benz parked right next to his convertible.
He slowly got out, dreading the the conversations that'd definitely happen soon. He let out a groan.
"Whose car is that?" Greta asked with a scowl on her face, it was probably Alexis, his PA. She already made up her mind not to pay attention to the annoying woman, she was already upset and didn't need anyone worsening it.
"We'll see," Vincent answered, knowing well that a mini chaos was about to happen. He deliberately moved closer to Greta and was going to put his arm around her but his hand got slapped away. "What?!"
"Can't I just do this just this once, I promise." He pleaded with her. She scoffed but finally agreed all the while wondering what he was up to and why he'd want to hold her when his girlfriend was nearby. Were they having issues?
"Vinny!!" A loud shrill voice from a chubby woman shocked Greta, she watched as the woman approached them, the brightest smile on her face, she realized that Vincent smile mirrored the woman's own. It was then it clocked, it was his mother. Her heart skipped a beat, no wonder he wanted them to hold hands.
She pulled Vincent into a tight hug and then proceeded to place kisses on every available spots on his face, it was then Greta realized how short she really was compared to the mother and son. She briefly wondered if Vincent would like it if the child took her height. She looked up to see Vincent's mother already looking at her.
The woman whispered an audible "is that her?" To Vincent who nodded his head and flashed Greta a smile, she almost rolled her eyes but didn't because of his mother. Her heart increased its tempo as the woman untangled from her son and approached her, she found herself praying that she be liked.
It all comes down to this, everything depends on the approval of the woman approaching her.
She looked up at Vincent silently hoping he could read her fears and do something but the dude only gave her a thumbs up. She looked away from him and plastered a smile on her face.
She opened her mouth to utter greetings to the mom but was instead pulled into a warm embrace, she immediately relaxed, all tension leaving her body. At that moment she could almost burst in tears, all her worries had been for nothing. This mother was nothing like her son.
"I'm so happy to finally meet you, Vinny has told me a lot about you." She pulled out of the hug, "has he been good to you, I know he's a bit of an ass but I really want to hear that he still has some of the manners I instilled in him?" She gave Greta a questioning look?
"He's an ass, a loving one at that, but no worries for I'm capable of putting him back in his place." She managed to say, hoping it wasn't too obvious she was lying. She was far from the picture she painted into the mom's mind.
"I'm glad to hear that..ha..where are my manners?" She took a step back and took hold of Greta's both hands, "I'm Chiara but you can call me mom, that is if you want." She added with a wink.
Greta chuckled and her eyes became teary, she had just been given another chance to call someone mom but was sure it would only last till the contract ended. She couldn't bring herself to say it even if she wants to, she knew she'd regret her decision but didn't think it'd be early as this, she found herself dreading the day Chiara would find out about the arrangements.. or worse, what if Vincent lies about it, he would definitely lie in his favour. He'd most likely claim she dumped him.
"I'd love to.."
Her response was received with a giant smile, she looked up to catch Vincent's expression, it was soft and the edges of his mouth pulled up a bit, he straightened his face when he caught her looking.
"Let's go in, sweety." Chiara led her towards the house, bypassing Vincent without sparing him a glance, he groaned knowing he'd be ignored till his mama went home but followed them inside anyway.
"—he liked to play with Barbie dolls when he was younger, we thought he was gay or would change his pronouns when he grew older.."
"Mom!" Vincent whined, just like he suspected, his mother had started filling his baby mama's ears with some nonsense activities he partook in during his childhood. He shot his mom a disapproving look as he climbed down the stairs, "Don't listen to anything she says Greta," he pleaded.
She smirked at him, glad to have direct access to embarrassing details about him, that for free too. she was in love with his mother already, with Chiara she now had a way to get back at him when necessary.
"Why should I not? I seem to enjoy the conversations I have with her, I can't say the same with you," she raised an eyebrow at him, Chiara sensed the tensed atmosphere and quickly moved to calm the kids down. "Vincent, why don't you try preparing something for the ladies, I'm sure you haven't forgotten some of the recipes I taught you," she added with a smile.
He groaned, he had planned to cook for Greta as a surprise, now his mom had ruined it, "I was going to do that!" he whined. There was disbelief in both their faces so he scoffed and went to make their meal anyways, it's not like they'd believe him. He'd have to cook for Greta another day when his overly annoying mom wasn't around.
