Republic city was the benchmark city. Everyone who wanted to be someone, or was someone lived there. It was the home of the stars.

The buildings were 10 times taller than our houses were. The roads were wider, stronger and less dusty. Cars of many shapes and sizes and brands drove by to the speed of the wind.

I've never really dreamt of this place like most people, Jin for example. It was all just another world to me. A world I would probably die without seeing.

I was seeing it alright. And Jin's fingers were sinking so deep into my forearms, I was gonna push him over.

"Republic city!!! " Chiyo screams.

"Woah" Nico gasped quietly.

Dumpling-uh she was sniffing some dudes butt.

Wait where was Sei?

This place (train station) looked nothing closed to spirit-overrun. It was far from what I imagined the state to be. You know what I expected, half burning buildings, covered with soot and dirt, people running wild, spirits shooting magical fairy dust at—

"Avatar, you made it, its a pleasure to meet you! " A man in gold coloured clothing exclaimed, arms out and welcoming. We stood with our bags in a straight row, staring at the shinny man.

"Hi, do you know where mako is? " I asked.

"Mako! " His face twisted in bewilderment, "who's that!? "

"Oh sorry! I thought you were here to pick us up" I scratch my head in shame.

"No! You are correct! " He grinned."I was sent by the president, who was adviced by the police Chief to pick you up! "

I nod silently but suspiciously.

"Shall we go?!" His gloved hands out and curled before him. Why is the presidents butler so shiny? Goodness me.

We followed him quietly out the underground train station. The outside world was through several arched openings with people filing in and out. What was beyond those doors would leave me disappointed.

"What the heck, what is this dump? " Jin groans pegging his nose together with his fingers.

"It-it smells like dumplings vomit after she ate that rotten fish" I cringed.

"Gross, I did not sign up for this" Nico muttered to herself.

"I don't smell anything" Chiyo said oblivious to our agony.

First of all the place smelled. The people weren't as shiny as the butler here, the buildings were old looking. There was trash every where, and the cars were just as run down.

Except the big shiny black car in front of us.

"This is republic city? " I asked the shiny grinning butler.

"The bad part" He said still grinning like a creep. Yeesh. "Come along, children" He opened the door for us, and everyone except me and dumpling gets in.

"What about dumpling? " I frown.

"No problem, our men will take good care of it, while you are away" He looked like those dolls, made to smile forever.

"No, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to leave her here" Just then she licks my face.

"If you wish avatar. Please follow behind on your uhh- pet"

"Is that ok? " My eyes widened.

"Yes this is a government owned vehicle, people know when to make way"

"Ok then" I gave him a half smile.

"Well then, let's get going" He slams the door close and moves to the passenger seat door.

The car starts up and I climb onto dumplings back, sighing loudly.

"Dumpling girl please don't destroy anything" I silently pray to myself.

The car moves at a slow pace, but fast enough to out run the other cars, dumpling seemed to be enjoying this. Chase the big shiny object.

We pass more and more buildings, more old then the next.

Eventually were on bridge, underneath water swished here and there, now the cars here looked more what's the world....filthy rich.

Far beyond in the water was a small shadow, that I knew to be air temple island.

Up ahead was buildings that touched the sky, in colours I've never seen a building in before. Busy beeping bustling and hustling of people here and there.

Some stopped and stared at me and dumpling in bewilderment. If I saw me right now, I wouldn't be freaked, isn't it normal?!

I even saw benders performing some tricks. The people here were much more shiny. I should stop saying shiny. But that's the only word I could use to differentiate between the two groups of people.

I was staring at the buildings and fountains and huge parks that I didn't notice the absence of the shiny black car. It was gone, and dumpling was heading somewhere else.

"Uhh dumpling, where are we going? " She was running towards something I didnt know what. I held onto her fur as tight as I could.

People flew out of the way here and there. Screaming and scolding.

And then we come to a stop. In front of a big tree, flipping huge tree.

I was no city folk, but I knew this was definitely not the best place to plant a huge tree. In the middle of a road in between buildings.

The roots and branches crawled here and there up the buildings, all over the ground. It was beautiful.

Something about this place felt like home.

But no one was around, not a soul in sight. Where was everyone?

"You are on a restricted site, please step back" I turned sharply behind me to the voice. I didn't know who he was, that was for sure.

Bald, arrow tattoo, orange robes, monk like face. An Airbender.

"Oh sorry" I hop off dumpling, only then noticing the yellow tape that lay on the earth. "Come on girl" I grab at dumplings neck. She makes a weird sound and turns towards me.

"What an unpleasant creature" The man frowned.

"Her name's dumpling"

"Of course it is" He waves me off, "you don't look like your from here? "

"Nope, not at all" I grin, "you don't happen to know where Mako is? "

He looked at me weirdly, probably wondering who I was talking about.

"Avatar Korra's son... ? " I add. Dumpling flinched beside me, becoming agitated. I looked over at her, she couldn't keep still, her eyes kept going back to the tree.

"My word, I don't believe it! " His hand flew to his mouth, his robe flowing after him, "you're the avatar! "

"Yeah?" I shrug still distracted by dumpling.

"You can fix this, you're our only hope! " He moves forward towards me.

"I need to see Mako first" I stepped back.

Stranger danger.

"Right this way avatar, I believe he is at town hall" He opens his arms, directing the way.

"Is there any way, dumpling could come without her walking on her own" She calmed down a bit.

"Yes, of course. Umm, let's go" He walks onwards out of the deserted area.

This whole block was deserted. It was beautiful yet scary.

Dumpling flinches here and there at thin air. Stopping, sniffing, making weird noises. I couldn't tell if she was acting up or if something was affecting her.

We eventually ended up at this place that had cars the size of small houses, which dumpling was able to fit in perfectly.

I have no idea how the air bender got the people in there to drive dumpling but he did.

And not forgetting the car that picked us up.

Who exactly is this dude?

Along the way he asked occasionally questions like if I mastered all the elements or if I had a plan for republic city, most of my answers were I dont know.

Dumpling thankfully didn't go crazy. By crazy I mean panic and destroy the whole truck.

Town hall was- it was. Just amazing.

I was lost for words when the building came into sight.

The Airbender leads me out of the car and into the Hall, despite my nagging to remove dumpling first to which he waved me off saying they would take very good care of him.

Who were 'they'??

The Hall was probably the most shiniest place I've ever been in, and that's saying something coz I've been in a lot of dirty places. I could literally see my reflection on every surface, it was frightening.

"Kai! Where have you been? We've been looking for you everywhere?! " Jin's voice echoes throughout the Hall. He was sitting comfortably on a bench with Nico and Chiyo, beside him.

I was trying to control a crazy mole-tiger and they were here, just sitting comfortably on a bench. The people I call my friends.

"Dumpling got sidetracked" I answer, dropping onto the bench in front of them.

"Well isn't that new" Jin sighs sarcastically.

"Where is she? " Nico asks.

"I...don't...know" I answer slowly, "this Airbender dude came along and told us Mako was here and yeah, he said they would take good care of him. I don't know" I shrug, "he looks pretty rich so I think he means it" I whisper.

"Airbender? " Chiyo raises an eyebrow.

"Yeah? "

"From what I read the current president is an Airbender"

"Oh" And I'm left dumbfounded.
