Scarlet Fever #2
It was night time in New York City. You found yourself perched ontop of a building across the street from the hospital where Anya was being kept. You figured you would check in on her to make sure that she was okay.
And that no one else was looking for her.
But no one has even approached her door.
You should be with your friends. Out camping in the woods. But you were here.
J Jonah Jameson was right.
Great power does equal great responsibility.
You shot out a web and swung over to the window that would lead you into her hospital room. You slowly opened the window and crawled in.
You looked at the girl, only to find her staring right back at you.
Y/N: Don't be scared. I just...I just wanted to make sure that you were okay.
You entered the room and walked over towards her bed. She said something, but you couldn't hear her.
You leaned in closer.
Y/N: What was that?
Anya: Usted me salvo.
Usted me salvo? What did that mean?
George: What'd she say?
You froze at the voice and looked at the door to find George and the doctor standing there. The same doctor that was trying to evacuate the patients from the hospital.
You slowly raised your hands.
Y/N: I don't want trouble.
George shook his head.
George: I'm not going to give you any. The whole city knows about what you and Spider-Woman did today.
They did? Well, a huge fight with two spiders and a fire dude would catch attention.
You slowly lowered your hands back down.
Y/N: Well, I'll be off, then.
Doctor: Stay if you like.
Y/N: I just wanted to make sure the girl was alright. If she was safe.
The doctor sighed.
Doctor: Well, she isn't. She's alive, but she an illegal. Captain George here says she'll be sent back across the border.
You looked at George. He sighed.
George: Whoever sent him.....there's no way to protect her over there. I'm an officer of the law. There's nothing I can do.
You looked back to Anya as she slept. She was still a kid. Maybe 16 or so. She couldn't go back. She would be killed by the people looking for her.
George: A vigilante, however, that's a different story.
You turned back to George with wide eyes. Was he implying, that you took care of her? Well, if she was with you, she would be safe. Not only that, but she wouldn't have to go back to Mexico.
But, you were a college student. Sure you had cash, but you......
Y/N: You know what? I think I actually can help. But, I'll have to take her with me tomorrow night.
George crossed his arms.
George: That's fine. I'll try to keep her here until then. Did you have plans?
Y/N: Yeah. Something like that.
------------
You never swung through a forest before, but this was pretty fun.
You were still in your costume, as to not reveal yourself, as you jumped through tree branches on your way to the lake house.
Y/N: It should be up here. Any moment now and I'll......oh shit.
You suddenly found no more trees left, and a massive lake between you and the lake house.
Y/N: No, no, no, No, NO, NOOOOOOO!!!
Splash!
-----------
You mumbled to yourself as you walked up the dirt trail towards the cabin, now back in your regular clothes.
Your soaking wet clothes.
The door to the cabin opened and someone walked out, but they stopped when they saw you.
Randy: Y/N? When did you get here? And why are you soaking wet?
Y/N: Nature, Randy. I blame nature. Do you think you have anything I could barrow? Like an extra shirt or something that might fit me?
Ribbit.
Y/N: There's a frog in my shoe. I can feel it.
Robbie: None of my clothes would fit you, man.
Harry: But mine might.
You stopped walking and looked up to find Harry leaning on the railing of the porch. He smiled at you as you stared at him in confusion.
It's been two years since you last heard from him. Now he was, buffer. Did he get bit by a spider too?
Harry: I think I got something you can change into.
And just like that, Harry Osborn was back in your lives again.
It didn't take long for you to end up sitting by the campfire with everyone else. You didn't really enjoy looking at fire right now, but it was nice to have everyone back like this.
Everyone's happy. They should be. In school, you were inseparable. You, Gwen, Peter, and Harry. The four amigos.
And you should be happy.
No one has heard from Harry in two years. Not since Pete's funeral. He took it hard. Probably harder than anyone.
That's why you never bothered to find him. You just always figured he was using his money to travel the world. That Peter's death convinced him to finally love his life.
Gwen should be happy that he's back.
As everyone traded stories and laughed, Gwen sat off on her own.
The four amigos. It never felt like that was the case anymore.
You had your life, and she had no part in it.
Harry was back, but he wasn't the same. She could hear it in the way he spoke.
And, Peter was gone.
She continued to blame herself for you keeping your distance. After all, she pushed you away.
She got up and started to head towards the house. You noticed this, but decided to leave it be.
She was either tired after that fight today, or she just wanted to be alone.
Harry, however, also noticed. He excused himself and got up to follow her.
Betty: It's cool that Harry's back.
You just looked at the fire. You felt someone nudge you and you turned towards Betty.
Betty: You good?
Y/N: Huh? Oh, uh, yeah. I'm fine.
Physically? No. You were still sore.
Mentally? Nope. You were still figuring that on out.
Emotionally? You didn't want to talk about it.
Gwen held herself as she walked towards the house.
Harry: Gwen....Hey, wait up, Gwen.
Gwen stopped and turned around as Harry slightly jogged over towards her.
Harry: Hey, what's wrong? You haven't said anything to me all night. Did I do something wrong?
Gwen looked at him confused. How could he think he did something wrong?
Gwen: Nothing, Harry. I'm...it's just been a long day. I just need some rest. I'll talk to you in the morning.
She went to walk away, but Harry stopped her.
Harry: No, I-I won't be here in the morning, Gwen. I'm only here tonight because of you and Y/N.
Gwen: What?
Harry: Come on. How is that a surpise? The others....they're great. But they're your friends. They're just people I know because of you.
Gwen was surpised by this. He always got along so well with everyone. She always figured....
Harry: You, Y/N, and Peter. That was high school for me. All that time, that's the only stuff I ever cared about.
Harry looked at her and sighed.
Harry: You saw what Peter became. The shadow of it fell on everything. I couldn't just stay here. I couldn't do nothing again.
Gwen: "Again"? Harry, what are you talking about? Where have you been? Where did you go?
Harry: I caused all of this, Gwen. Peter died because of me.
Gwen grabbed Harry's shoulders.
Gwen: Harry, you're thinking crazy. That doesn't make sense. Peter was the Lizard. He died fighting the Spiders. What in the world could've made you think....
Harry: You don't understand, Gwen. You don't...
Harry sighed.
Harry: That night, at the prom. The night he changed, he thought I tried to....I don't know what he thought I did. Or why. But whatever came out of him, he hated me, Gwen.
Gwen: Listen to me, Harry. Whatever he said, whatever he did, that wasn't Peter. That was years of feeling helpless, years of bottling it all up. That was the Lizard talking. You couldn't have...
Harry: I saw it all, Gwen. I just stood there and watched Peter die. The Spiders were angry. But, Spider-Woman, she was the worse of the two. Spider-Man took it seriously, he tried to help. But Spider-Woman just gloated. Beating him wasn't enough.
Gwen slowly let go of Harry as he clenched his fists.
Harry: She toyed with him. Peter worshiped her and I watched her break his heart.
Gwen shook her head.
Gwen: Harry....Peter was out of control. Spider-Woman was just trying to help. Like Spider-Man. She didn't know that the Lizard was Peter....
Harry: But I knew, Gwen. I knew but I didn't say a word or lift a finger to help. I just stood there, like a coward. I spent the last two years walkng around knowing that if I had done something, then Peter would still be here. So, I went to war.
He pulled something from his pocket.
Harry: The army taught me how to fight. But SHIELD taught me how to kill.
He clicked the button the device he was holding and a strange sound echoed through the woods. You looked up and saw nothing but a trail of orange smoke overhead.
Harry: And now, I'm here. I came here so that you'd know, that whatever I have to do next, whatever happens to me, I did it for Peter. I did it for us.
Gwen watched as a flying object slowly landed next to Harry. He stepped onto it as it began to hover once again.
Gwen: Harry, stop....what're you doing?! What are you...
Harry: She's still out there, Gwen. Peter's killer is still on the loose. And I'm the only one who can stop her. I will bring Spider-Woman to justice.
He flew up and you watched as his shadowy figure vanished into the night.
Harry: And after I deal with her, I'm coming for the Spider-Man.

George woke up to someone knocking on his door. He grumbled to himself for a moment before he made his way downstairs to see who had woken him up at such an early hour.
However, when he opened his door, he immediately regretted his decision.
Murdock: You're not going to invite me in, Captain Stacy?
George looked at him through the screen door for a moment before he opened it and walked out.
George: I know you can't see my face, Mr. Murdock, but if you're not off my porch in thirty seconds you'll be greeted with the sound of a shotgun.
Murdock: Wow. Mm. Okay, I see someone peed on your donut this morning, Captain. So let me match you with a little atypical speech of my own.
George raised a brow.
Murdock: The NYPD is after you, Capatin. The owner is out to bite it's dog. And if you're not careful, it's jaws will close on your kids as well.
George: What did you just say about my kids?
Murdock: Most people would say you've been a lucky man, Captain. Lucky enough to be saved by Spider-Woman more than once. But even a blind man can see that there's more to it.
He reached into his pocket and held out a red card.
Murdock: I'm here to help you. To help your family. Blood related or adopted. You know who I am. You know what I can do. Make your own luck, Captain.
He handed the card to George and turned to leave.
Murdock: Give me a call.
Murdock walked away as George looked at the business card.
Maybe his luck really was running out.

Around the same time, the doctor entered Anya's hospital room. You learned that his name was Donald Meland. A man who was nothing but kind hearted with only the best intentions in mind.
However, he found that his patient was missing from her bed.
Across town, you ate a bowl of cereal. You looked over at the door to your bedroom.
Anya was still asleep.
You sighed.
You had no idea what you were going to do. But you had to do something.
Anything.
Y/N: Ladies and gents, I am officially way in over my head.
You groaned before you you picked up your mask. It was now Sunday. Things were still calming down after your fight with Salamander, so you still needed to lay low. At least, for a day or so.
You pulled out your phone and sent a quick text.
Y/N: Hey, I'm back.
Wanda: Great. Think you can meet me at that Cafe on 4th?
You looked over at Anya. She was gonna be out for a while.
Y/N: On my way.
