Chapter 3: Tiberius
Tiberius wakes up with a massive lump on his head, he reaches back so tenderly and runs his fingers across it; it was so painful to the touch. He stands up, she was pretty incompetent to not even finish off the job. He looks down to see that there was glass all strewn about from the wine bottle that was broken over his head. The next thing he notices is his door being busted down with his two main guards, Gerald and Herald, "Oi Princely Sir! You still alive?" He heard Gerald yell while Herald goes to close the window near his bed.
A short round and plump lady walks into the bathroom, luckily it was his chambermaid, Hera. "Sire I am glad you are still alive! I was just coming to retrieve you from the bath when I found the two guards outside your door knocked out!" Hera was always a nice lady, not the brightest but always somehow useful.
"Yeah, I'm in here, and I am still alive." He grabs another wrap from the linen chest and wraps his waist up. "How long was I out?" he says while picking up some pieces of glass, "Oh you were out for probably... I'd say twenty minutes." she says in her higher pitched voice.
Gerald comes into the bathroom and leans on the door, while Hera began to work on cleaning up the mess made in the bathroom." I don't rememba what the lass looked like, but I rememba she was a strong one. Sire we'll put out a warning to the lady that did this that if she comes back, she will be erm well... arrested." Sometimes Tiberius wondered how Gerald and herald were still his guards even after how incompetent they were and let him be kidnapped when he was a kid. It was only when he escaped himself is when they found him and brought him back to the palace. His parents never saw how incompetent they were though for some god forsaken reason. He sighs and looks at the window, it reminded him of the odd kiss that the assassin gave him he couldn't look out the window the same ever again.
He looks at his people, "Have my things moved to the winter wing please. I want to make sure she cannot find me in the same place twice." he knew that moving his things to a different part of the palace was strategically smart. "Sire it'll take hours to move your things and you still need to get ready for dinner tonight." Hera replies to him in a worriedly tone. "I don't care what I wear, and I don't need to look fancy for a dinner."
He walks out of the bathroom, pushing past Gerald and Herald and goes to his large walk-in closet. He sorts through the shelves of trousers; it was clothes all the way from the time of his birth. He pulls a pair of blue trousers that were clearly way too small for him. "Oh also, all of these extra clothes that I no longer fit into, donate them to the local orphanage."
Herald was about to protest but Tiberius stops him. "Just do it. I will never wear them, nor do I need them."
Tiberius manages to pull out the clothes he wanted to wear and throws it on. He then grabs a pair of brown boots from the cubby hole that sat outside the closet and included those with his outfit.
He goes to leave and looks back at his room once more to see the two guards and the maid staring at him dumbfounded.
"I don't want to hear anymore protests from any of you just do what I ask please." He then closes the door and makes his way to the dinner hall.
Tiberius makes his way to the dinner hall where he already finds his older sister, and his parents already waiting for him. He takes a seat next to his sister. She sighs, "Do you know what is for dinner tonight?"
Tiberius readjusts his table arrangement, for some reason the table setter would always put the forks and knives in the wrong places, "Can we fire the table arranger? He keeps messing up the arrangements." He props his head up in his hand while he continues to rearrange his part of the table the proper way.
"Why would we do something like that? Your father likes the table arranger just the way he arranges the table. " His mom spouts off as she places her napkin on her lap.
The dinner bell rings indicating that dinner is served, the servants come by with brass trays and place down the food on the fine dinnerware on the table. As they finish carefully arranging the food, the scent of the fried chicken hits his nostrils and he immediately begins to salivate. it was pure torture to make him wait any longer, sometimes he wished he was born not into royalty so he could just immediately devour any food placed in front of him to satiate his hunger. The head Chef does his nightly demonstration with showing the food wasn't poisoned by eating one singular bite off of each plate. Tiberius could swear he seemed to be the only other person in the palace with his head screwed on straight. He then finishes and bows to the family, "My king, my queen I declare this divine food to be safe to eat." The head chef then takes his leave.
Tiberius grabs his food and begins to cram down the food, he didn't realize how hungry he was. After a moment of silence, the royal informant comes in and whispers something into the king's ears. Usually with things like this it was usually important not to be announced within the whole room. Tiberius watches his dad's face go from neutral to lighting up the entire room "Oh wonderful send them in! Let them eat with us!" Tiberius didn't know what the hell was going on but he didn't like social interactions especially during chicken day. Sometimes he wished it could wait until after dinner. "Dad can it just wait until after dinner?"
His dad stands up and whisks away the informant with his hand, " Well bring them in!" the king then looks at his sister and Tiberius, "No this is most important because it will be the person you are spending the rest of your life with." Tiberius gently sets down his fork then slaps the napkin down onto the table that was on his lap, "And you didn't inform me of this decision?" It would have been fucking nice to be told that this was going to happen to me!
"No son I-" The doors to the dining hall open, and two ladies, a younger one and an older one both come in, his dad looks up at the end of the hall, "May I present to you the Tenaceous Queen Helena of Morvost and her daughter Princesses Juliana."
"Haha Welcome! Welcome!" he then snaps his fingers at some servants to pull out the chairs and set the table, "We weren't expecting you so soon! Please join us for chicken day."
Tiberius looks at the ladies, the younger woman was beautiful, she had striking brown eyes and blonde hair. She takes a seat in front of Tiberius, then sets her table properly, "Is your table always so disheveled?" Tiberius scoffs, "Hah no not always, we recently hired a new table setter from another country." he clenches the napkin that he threw on the table, she was so painfully obviously going to see right through him, he never lies. He knew he couldn't look like a total idiot right now and he hated every moment of it. He quietly nibbles on his chicken, Juliana looked so beautiful in the beige dress she was wearing. Even though it was her travel attire, she looked well put together. "So, Juliana I have always wondered how is Morvost? I have not visited the country since I was a child."
Tiberius rips off a piece of meat from his chicken, he wasn't going to let another pretty girl spoil his night. She carefully pulls a chicken apart with two forks, "Oh its lovely around this time of year, so warm, well it's cold, but warmer than here, unlike your country getting snow first, we have not gotten any yet." Tiberius tries to get a glance of her face again; she was so bashful for princess. He tried to hide his dissatisfaction, he was hoping she would be a little more outgoing, he thinks back to the assassin that visited him earlier today, he never met anyone so capable of handling herself. Tiberius was secretly hoping she would come back for a rematch, the fact that she got past the guards and snuck in was astonishing to him.
He tried to remember her name, but it wasn't coming out his mind as he was thinking of so much, "My lord." Tiberius snaps out of his thoughts when Juliana asked another question, "So what do you do on a daily basis? Do you fill your life with any hobbies or activities?" Tiberius rubbed the back of his head with his hand, "Erm, I don't have a lot of hobbies but one I take interest in is woodcarving." He taps the table, "I made this."
Juliana's eyes light up, and she rubs her hand across the smooth woodgrain. " Oh, you made this?! that is amazing! I would have thought it would have been made by the local artisans." She looks at Tiberius strangely and it was quite confusing, he never had anyone look at him like that before.
He feels himself slowly sinking in his chair, as he began to think to himself. Maybe she won't want to marry me if I just declare myself as being infertile. I do know that most women want to have children. He takes a bite of his chicken almost as if he was toying with it.
"Tiberius, is there any chance that after supper we could maybe go out for a walk?" she takes a bite off her chicken drumstick. Tiberius coughs trying to not choke down his chicken, "Erm, yeah we can uh go for a walk." He had a hard time trying to figure out of this woman was stupid or trying to actually win over his heart.
His dad stands up and walks over to sit next to Tiberius, "Hey son, I want to let you know that Juliana will be staying here at the palace for a while. Please show her around and make her feel comfortable." Tiberius sighs, at least Juliana was attractive, maybe they could just be good friends if she didn't like him.
