Chapter 1: Morrow
Morrow falls from the rafters of the palace, sneaking in was no easy task. She had gotten past the walls and most of the guards, but now she had to find her way into the Princes' Chambers. She slinks down the marble stone hallway quickly making her way towards her target. She felt a little anxiety embroiled inside her body churning like a snake eating a mouse, her hands were growing cold like that feeling as if she washed them outside in a puddle. This was her first mission, but she knew she had to be confident about it. She was quite impressed by the beautiful green drapery that hung on the walls carefully embroidered with a silver falcon on them. Morrow noticed that on the sides of the drapes hung small sconces that illuminated the palace with ease reflecting off the stone walls.
She finally comes across some guards; it was time for the shift change, so it was going to be easy. As the other two walk away, Morrow jumps from rafter to rafter as best as she could. She feels her foot slip on the slick wood from where pigeons came to nest. "Shit." she says almost falling on the guards. The guard on the left suddenly becomes alert and looks around for the noise.
" Hey, did you hear something?" He says, ready for anything to happen.
"Gerald it was probably that pigeon again ready to shit on your head again." The other guard sarcastically comments.
Morrow crouches as small as she could on the rafter beam to avoid any sorts of detection from the guards. She knew the job was not done yet she still had to get into the prince's chambers.
After the guards came at ease again, Morrow swings down to the next rafter beam. Morrow glanced around on the rafter beams noticing the amount of pigeon's nests. To keep the rats and pigeons at bay, there was a reason falcon were loved so much. Remember your training, Morrow. She tells herself. Ignoring the thought of the pigeons nesting in the behemoth called royal palace.
Morrow takes a deep breath and closes her eyes for a moment to regain her concentration. Then jumps down to face the guards below her.
"Hello there." she says smugly. She pulls out her rapier ready for defense.
"Who are you?" the guards look at her confused. She rolls her eyes and taps her rapier in her hand.
"I am Morrow" he says replying to his question.
The guard named Gerald replies in a careless tone, "eh never heard of you."
"Also, we knew you were up there the whole time, you don't scare us." The unnamed guard adds to Gerald's comment.
"Yeah, what Herald said, we knew you were up there." he jumps at her a little trying to intimidate her. Morrow rolls her eyes clearly annoyed. Oh now he has a name.
"I am Morrow. again" she says as she advances on them quickly catching them off guard before they could attack her. Morrow snags a drapery off the wall and throws it onto Herald. She then kicks him in the chest right into Gerald...which successfully knocks Herald out. Gerald tries to strike at her, but she quickly deflects him remembering her grueling training session. She rips Gerald's sword out of his hand and pommels him in the face knocking him out.
Guards taken care of.
Morrow pushes open the doors they made a loud creaking sound clearly needing sign of work needing to be done, "Hey Hera. I was just thinking what if I wore the red suit to dinner tonight?" She heard a deep voice echo from the adjacent room.
She walks in the room further looking at the decorations, his room was not at all lavish but simple. A singular drapery hung above the bed showing the crest of the falcon on it with two sconces on each side of it, adjacent to that on the far side of the room sat the windows and a small exit to the balcony.
Morrow did not know who the hell Hera was, but she guessed it was his chamber maid. Morrow couldn't imagine what atrocities the chamber maids got put through working for the royals.
"Hera what do you think?" he asked again clearly not paying attention that it was not his chamber maid.
"Uh, red would be a lovely color" Because it's the color of your blood when I assassinate you. She tried to reply in a voice that sounded timid maybe like his chamber maid.
Morrow investigates further in the room, actually surprised that it was as simple as it was even for being a royal. She follows the sound where his voice had come from.
When Morrow enters the room, she sees a young man with brunette hair sitting in a bathtub near a fire. It felt awkward, she was going to kill a naked man, she has never seen a man naked before. She hoped the water was murky.
She looks out the window that sat above what she guessed was where the linens were stored, the sky turned dark from however long she was in the palace, she did not realize that it was going to rain today. "Well that just made my job easier." she says flatly.
"Why?" He asks.
"So, nobody would hear you scream." She replies to him as she sheathes her rapier and pulls out a dagger.
He stands up revealing his ivory naked body, he was not muscular, but he was rather toned. Morrow tries to shield her eyes, "Damn you, will you just sit back in the tub?" she says annoyingly.
"I'm getting pruney, at least kill me in a place where I would be able to get a last look at my homeland." he says solemnly seemingly as if accepting his fate. Morrow couldn't tell if that was sarcasm or if he was serious.
He stands in front of the window and grabs a wrapping out of the linen chest and faces the window. Morrow approaches him cautiously, she almost felt sorry for him, something inside this man she could connect with, something she had seen in herself before. She sheathes her dagger and goes to stand next to him by the window. She looks out at the land, to the east she could see the golden, rolling planes and to the west the menacing mountains with the white caps of snow. The view was beautiful Morrow had never seen the earth from atop a high point. Morrow almost began to feel sorry for him she figured out why he wanted to be killed here now.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" he says with awe. She wondered why he was not used to the view.
"Do you know my name? " He asks quietly.
Morrow Leans on the stone wall and looks at her nails, " No why would I care?"
"My name is Prince Tiberius of the Cascades." he says as he grabs his shirt from the top of the linen chest and puts it on.
She looks up from studying her nails a little confused, she didn't really care about getting his name let alone stopping and actually visiting with him. She was just here to do her job and that was to assassinate him. She pulls out her dagger and tries to make a move by jabbing at his abdomen.
"Wait!" he yells as he moves out of the way of her jab. He grabs her wrist he yanks her foreword pulling her close and rips the knife out of her hand easily disarming her.
"Well wasn't that simple huh?" he smirks at her "You don't seem very good at this." She didn't realize he had such an iron grip for a prince. She tries to pommel him with the end of her rapier as she draws it, but he grabs it too and pulls her hand aside, just as that happens the linen falls off of his waist.
She looks into his striking green eyes and smiles mischievously, then knees him in the crotch. He makes an immediate wincing sound and doubles over letting go of his iron grip on her.
"Put some pants on you oaf! You shouldn't be prancing around without pants on. It's not princely." She makes a move for her dagger again, but Tiberius grabs it and hurls it into a post far above the fireplace still doubled over. Morrow looks at him slightly impressed, his strength and skill was impressive.
"I'd be able to if you were not beating the shit out of me." he gasps trying to recover from the cheap shot.
"You just had to make it hard on me?!" She yells in a little bit of frustration. She had to find a way to get her dagger back somehow.
"If you are going to kill me at least do it with dignity and give the guy a fighting chance. " He groans as he manages to stand back on his feet while holding his gut.
Morrow makes a move for her dagger and Tiberius makes a move for some pants, they both shuffle to get their things together before either one could overpower the other.
Damn knife why won't you come out of the wood?! This definitely was an off day for her.
"You seemed sad a minute ago, why the sudden change?" She asks as she picks up a knife off of a nearby table, abandoning her dagger, and tries to throw it at him, but he dodges it. She advances towards him, and he seems to do the same.
"What if it was a ruse? " He says as he rushes foreword towards Morrow with his pants hanging barely on his cheeks. She tries to duck out of the way by rolling to the side, but Tiberius grabs her rapier right out of her hand and throws it aside completely disarming her. Morrow tries to kick him, but he dodges all of her attacks. Okay now this is definitely an off day for me nobody has ever succeeded in taking my rapier off me.
Tiberius quickly overpowers her, this time he had something in his hand. She felt a small prick in her abdomen area. "Not so easy to kill huh?" he says to her with a little pride in his voice.
She looks down and he was holding a dagger pointed towards her belly. She sighs after looking into his smug face. She knew she was going to die if she couldn't think of anything quickly, so she pulled the last card out of her book. Morrow leans up to kiss him in a long passionate kiss it was the only thing she could think of to distract the prince. He drops the dagger definitely stunned by her actions he backs up a little, with confusion written all over his face. Morrow notices a wine bottle on the nearby table and uses it to smack him in the head, he immediately slumps to the ground clearly knocked out or dead...or both. She didn't care she wanted to get out of here away from the strange prince.
Morrow makes her exit out of the nearby balcony it was raining, with dark clouds looming over the land. The marble was going to be slick; Morrow had the up most confidence that she could escape now.
