Everett went to bed wearing a cool pack on her head. She did have a fever.
The next day she got up and went to the closest pharmacy which was across the road from the hospital. It was convenient for people who needed to get their medication after going to the hospital, but all it did was remind her of last night.
The assassin walked on the sidewalk. The pharmacy was about a block away from her at this point. To her right was the hospital. She stared into one of its many windows. "Is Kendall in there?" she wondered. "Is he looking at me? Is he okay–"
Everett stopped.
Someone hit her, or rather Evert hit someone else. She fell to the sidewalk, reachinving small lacerations from the rough cement. "Watch it," the man said. He just glared at her as he walked away. Everett glared back at him as she got up.
Her hands hurt, and it turned pin, small dots of blood were left on her palms. She lightly brushed them off and blew on them. She walked the rest of the way to the pharmacy, past the parking lot, past the shelves of hygiene products, and into the shelf filled with syrup medicine. She picked up a Tylenol and read what was on the label "From the #1 doctor recommended brand for pain relief and fever reduction..." Everett walked away saying, "This will work."
As she made it to the cashier, she noticed a bag of cough drops. She grabbed them and placed both items on the counter. A pair of manicured hands grabbed them and scanned them.
The cashier put them into a bag. "Your total is–Everett?"
Everett looked up at her name being called. She stared at the woman at the counter. Her hair was light brown and went down to her shoulders, maybe a little longer. She had green eyes and a few freckles. She had bright red lipstick which matched her nails. "How do you know me?"
The woman's jaw dropped. She clasped her heart. "You don't remember me?" She moved her hand and did hand motions subconsciously. "I mean, we never met face to face, but you'd think you would remember my voice." She leaned over the counter and whispered, "It's me, Margarita."
Margarita leaned back so she was standing straight. Everett was now as shocked as Margarita was when she saw her, but she did her best to hide it. "I didn't know you worked here." She gave Margarita some dollars.
"No need, Rett, I got you covered," Margita pressed some buttons, then gave Everett the plastic bag. "Where do you think I work? At some dark closet looking set up, my computers surrounding me? It's wearing all black, like you." Everett didn't say anything. "Not this girl, I won't wear the color black."
"Thank you," Everet said, reaching into the bag for the Tylenol.
"No problem!" Margarita said. "Hey, you know what we should hang out together one day. Does Wednesday work with you?"
Everet tried to twist the red cap of the bottle of But it would barely move. She tried again. "I'd rather not hang out again," Everett said with her teeth gritted.
"Again? Oh, do you mean that time you entered into the doctor's car were you guys hanging out? Where did you go anyway? Is that why you didn't have any new information? Oh, or maybe..."
Everett's eyebrows were squinted down at an acute angle. Her teeth ground against one another like a gemstone grinder. Her eyes were like daggers and her forehead was hot. "No!" She screamed, throwing the red and white bottle into the tile ground.
"you—." Margarita came to an abrupt stop and it seemed that everyone else in the store stopped as well. They turned to see who yelled and what happened. Margarita looked to Everet then at the ground where the unopened Teynol bottle lay. Margarita slowly got out from behind the cashier and picked up the bottle. She pushed down then easily twisted it off. Placing it in her friend's hand she softly said, "Sometimes I forget about the childproof caps too."
After Margarita placed the opened bottle in her hands, she calmed down. "Thank you" And with that Everett curtly left. She heard a faint, "You're welcome" as left exited the automatic, sliding doors.
