Chapter Three: He's About To Kidnap You.

The dance that goes with this chapter is Vertigo which is actually performed by Maddie Ziegler. I'm tired, in pain and at the moment as I write this I should have been doing my homework but whatever.

Deddicated to @justaddchocolatefor the cover at the top thanks !!!

Chapter Three: "He's About To Kidnap You."

"I'M NERVOUS WESLEY." I whispered into the phone scanning my eyes over the many teenagers stretching in the big room. There were mirrors all around it with bars and people going into ballet positions all around me too. I was intimidated that's for sure and I never usually am. That's a lie, I told myself.

"It's not like you landed on your head when doing an aerial." He told me and my eyes widened at the fear of me doing that. "Oh my God, Sid it is not going to happen."

"But it might." I whispered harshly. I looked up, putting my legs back in a pike and stretching to reach my feet. My hand curled around my right foot, not even my body was stretched to its limit.

"But it won't happen." Wesley assured me as I positioned myself into a split.

"Hey Sydney." I looked up to see Eduardo in a muscle shirt and sweatpants.

I gently smiled at him. "Hey Wesley I'll call you when it's over."

"Okay good luck."

I scoffed. "Sure." He laughed into the phone and I hung up on him, putting my Blackberry into my bag.

Eduardo sat beside me, starting to stretch himself. "Was that the boyfriend?"

"Boyfriend," I asked, almost laughing. "Yeah sure like that's ever going to happen. That was Wesley my best friend."

Eduardo nodded, taking a hair band off his wrist and tying his scraggly hair into a ponytail. He looked a little funny but I didn't laugh instead bit back a smile. He rolled his eyes when he saw my face. "I know, I know, Mary Anne keeps saying I should cut my hair but to be honest it suits me. I get that rugged look that girls are always looking for. She's just in denial."

I started laughing, noticing the lack of hair on his face. "Rugged? Are you sure? You're like one of those hairless cats on your face."

Eduardo shook his head, smiling a little. "You're just a hater."

"Ladies and gentlemen," A voice shouted, getting everyone's attention. Standing by the room was a tall women-maybe only tall because of her heels. A smile spread out on her face. "Welcome to the dance program here at Hamilton Academy."

Everyone clapped as she walked to the center of the room, her steps echoing as she walked. "To the ninth graders, you already know what is expected of you but to the newcomers at our school that is in the higher grades..."

The lady's eyes found mine and I could feel everyone's eyes on me. "Would you like to show us what skill you have?"

Her eyes gleamed and I realized she was talking to me. That I was the only newcomer besides the ninth graders in this school. The knowledge of that twisted my stomach in a bundle of nerves. Holy shit.

Eduardo tapped my hand and I looked at him. He had a smile on his face, nodding his head to gesture that I should go. I shakily got up, breathing in and out through my mouth. I wished I had Wesley here. It would've made things a lot easier.

Everyone backed towards a wall so no one else was exactly in the center except for me and the lady. She kept the smile on her face, stretching a hand out towards me. I shook it and when we let go she spoke. "Welcome would you like to tell everyone your name?"

She placed her hands on my shoulders and turned me to face everyone behind me. I felt as if their eyes were penetrating my soul, trying to scare me. I pushed up the little boldness I had in me and nodded. "Um...I'm Sydney Acosta."

The second I said my name, I could hear gasps and whispers all around the room. I heard: "I knew it." Or "Oh my God." Or "No fucking way."

Yes fucking way, it's not like I'm Santa Claus, I said in my mind. If this were around people I knew really well I possibly would have rolled my eyes but surrounded by incredible dancers I felt as if I had been shrunken down as a museum display for everyone to see and take pictures.

Eduardo was staring at me with disbelief too, his mouth fell open. Great he knew too. Hell, they're all dancers Sydney of fucking course they would all know.

"Yes this is Sydney Acosta, three time Stars Revolution DA National Female Soloist who had broken the record last year at the competition with a perfect score. Last year even though her team did not make it, she alone had the chance to dance at the World championships as a lone soloist whose performance did not count but indeed she would have won first place with her astounding talent. It is an honor to have her at our school."

I looked down in embarrassment the second people started clapping. Even breaking the record last year I literally thought it was a fluke. Like someone was joking with me then when I had been told the association had paid for me to fly out where the World competitions were I thought that was a joke. It wasn't especially having millions of eyes staring and taking videos of you.

The whole idea of people staring at me wasn't a really big deal when I was dancing because I was at my limit. Here at this moment I wasn't dancing instead I was a socially awkward seventeen year old girl who was embarrassed of being the center of amazing dancers.

The whole World competition thing was a major addition as to why I barely got to leave the house. I found it absolutely stupid at this point because after the competition happened, my other friends had invited me to places and my mom kept asking all these questions to a point where she said no and I was stuck at home.

Not to mention I wasn't allowed any social networks besides Skype which I literally got before I had to move because my mom saw that I was missing my friends. Great observation. I was isolated from now on and dance was just a way for me to get some freedom, to express what I was feeling in emotion. Maybe that's why I won the Nationals competition three years in a row.

Stars Revolution DA was completely different than any other dance organization in the world. The held their regionals, nationals and World Championships usually starting in September all the way to the middle of June where the World Championships were held. In between those times, teams had a chance to train and compete in other competitions to get them trained for the big ones. Regionals was usually around November, giving teams about two to three months of practice. Nationals was held around February and the World Championships were held in June. It was like this every year so I also know that the only set of people that competed in any Stars Revolution AAcompetition were the best of best studios in the world.The people that won and were spotlighted in each competition had a major chance of getting scholarships or experiencing their dream of becoming a professional dancer. Julliard has been watching me for a long time.

"I-It was nothing." I mumbled once everyone had stopped clapping.

"We digress on that Ms. Acosta. Seeing as how you are a new student this year and not one of our grade nines, would you dance a piece for us, right here at Hamilton Academy."

I heard someone 'whoop' as the teacher backed away and I was left alone with a big space in the middle. Eduardo had appeared beside me, my Blackberry in his hand. I probably left it on the floor. "What song?"

"Um..." I thought for a second. I've danced so many routines in my lifetime so I chose one that I loved doing. "Vertigo by Rachael Sage."

He nodded and walked over to the other side. I remember the first time I did this dance. I was fourteen and for some reason it was one of my favorite dances of all time.I took a deep breath, watching people sit down on the ground and giving me more than enough space to perform in the big room. I got down in my position keeping my head down.

Before I knew it, I could hear the beginning of the music and my memorization of the dance flowed through me. I only had three days to learn this dance and I won first place and top score overall with it.

My turns, my expressions on my faces, my extensions were pushed through to the full limit and I felt the need to show my emotion how scared I actually was to be in a school filled with so many talented people through the song just with fierceness. I turned a lot and I wasn't dizzy but I could sense that I hadn't gone full out.

After I was done, I breathed heavily. I didn't dance to my fullest and I could basically see the tiny mistakes I had made in my mind. I had slowly lied down, my arms extended as everyone clapped, someone even whistled. I looked over at Eduardo and he was grinning, shooting me thumbs up as I got up from the floor. But it wasn't that good, it wasn't that polished as most of my other routines. I even knew that most of the other dancers here at HAA were perfectionists and would not let anyone stand in their way.

Maybe that's why I felt intimidated.

I kept my eyes trained on the floor as someone walked up to me. I looked up and met a pair of brown eyes. He was possibly 5'9 or so. He stuck a hand out towards me and I shook it, watching the way his dirty blonde hair shone under the light. "Welcome Sydney to HAA. I'm co-captain of the Elite team here, Isaac."

The way he was watching me made me confused but I shook it off as we let out hands go with a smile.

Beside him a girl appeared. She was standing really close to him, like not caring about a personal space bubble close. She looked at me up and down with her blue grey eyes, sizing me up before giving me a tight smile. Her dark hair was wrapped in a neat bun, showing how professional she was. "Hi Sydney, I'm Matilda the other co-captain."

I nodded and gave her a small smile. Everyone was watching our exchange even though it was clear that Matilda did not like me. Isaac on the other hand... "Are you trying out for our team?"

I nodded, not feeling as if I should talk in her presence.

She looked at me up and down again, making me feel as if I should run to the corner of the room and shrink down to the size of a mouse. After a couple of seconds she smirked. "I guess we'll see you on Thursday."

She walked off and with a strut to another girl as everyone started to stand and Isaac gave me a small smile before walking off. I turned my head towards the teacher and she just gave me a calming smile before standing next to me and looking out the crowd. "Ladies and Gentlemen..."

She started to talk and Eduardo took me by the arm and brought me over to where we were before. I could still feel eyes on me but I avoided their gazes by looking down. "How did you not tell me?" he whispered, following the stretches that the teacher had told Matilda and Isaac to lead.

We put our right leg into a split and raised our left to bend and almost touch our heads. I looked around and most people couldn't do this but it didn't matter because we all had different aspects in our dances but Eduardo could.

"I didn't want to be treated differently, besides it's my first day." I pointed out. "Now what's up with Matilda?"

Eduardo scoffed. "She was captain last year and now this year too. Most skilled in ballet and acro. I think she's scared that you'll take her spot."

"She's scared," I asked, a little in shock. "Look at her feet, they are amazing."

Eduardo shrugged. "I don't look at people feet unless they're dancing. I don't have a foot fetish Sydney."

He shivered and I stifled laughter. I looked up at Matilda who was shifting into another position, her eyes on me and she was glaring. With the way she was glaring at me I felt like I was being emotionally attacked by a swarm of wasps.

I quickly avoided her gaze back to Eduardo. When we changed positions, he asked me questions. "So you're planning on taking your dance career far? Most people only do it to teach others."

I nodded. "I want to go to Julliard."

"Julliard huh? I hear they only accept 24 dancers from all over the world. But with your talent I know you're going to make it."

I scoffed. "It's only a chance and there are tons of other dancers out there who train harder than I do Eduardo."

"I've seen the way you the dance Sydney," He mentioned, switching positions. "You channel emotion that most dancers lack. Your skill is technical, very technical and your expressions show a level of artistry that some can't even master."

We didn't say anything more as they split up the classes and he went with his hip hop group. I stayed back with everyone who was contemporary. We were told to go to the bars and take in first position since most of our styles were ballet.

The lady who had put me on the spot was leading it and I could see Matilda somewhere on another bar watching me. As I fixed my feet, she smirked knowing that was feeling intimidated under her gaze.

I took out a deep breath as the teacher went around the room fixing different people. When she passed by me, she didn't fix my back or anything, her eyes trailed over my posture and she nodded briefly before moving on. Even as she fixed the shoulders of the guy in front of me, I could still see the ghost of a smile on her lips.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How was school?" Mom asked me.
"It was okay-really different than my old school that's for sure. I mean classes were shorter today and we had a break in between lunch and dance was...interesting."
"And your job?"
"It's practically the same as back home." I muttered, playing around with the food on my plate.
My mom put her fork on her plate, looking up at me. "Sydney."
I didn't meet her eyes. "I don't want to talk about it. I don't think we should."
"So something did happen."
"Yes," I admitted, feeling the buzzing of my phone in my pocket. It was probably Wesley. "He called."
"Did you talk to him?"
"I didn't pick up. He called me during dance and when I was on the bus but I didn't pick up," I didn't want to talk about it anymore and I knew she was having trouble talking about it too. "Can I eat in my room?"
"Sydney..." she tried to stop me but I had already taken my plate and drink and walked away towards the tiny hallway and into my room. I closed the door with my foot, putting the plate and cup on my desk and lying down on my bed. If I had done that any other day then I probably would have received a huge blow out from her but I figured she let it go and didn't yell at me.
My phone buzzed once again in my pocket and I answered it. "Hello?"
"Sid." A voice yelled and I almost fell off the bed, laughing quietly.
"Holy shit Michelle, don't scare me like that asshole."
"Yeah, yeah one sec let me put Wesley on the other line."
I was on hold for a couple of seconds before another voice yelled through the phone. "Idiot I missed you," Wesley yelled and I rolled my eyes. "How was the first day of the school that makes all the regular talentless people feel dumb?"
"You're a competitive swimmer Wes, what do you mean talentless?" said Michelle, my cousin was the same age as Wes and I. She was half Filipino and half French Canadian. She might've been from my father's side but my mom was really close with my aunt so anything about my dad connected to my aunt didn't really matter.
"Wow Michelle, are you complimenting me? That's a first isn't it?"
"It didn't mean anything," she retorted. "Don't take it to heart."
These two should honestly just start dating but I knew that would never happen. Wesley literally said that it would never work out because apparently 'he's an asshole and she's too calm'. He can be an asshole but in general he just didn't want to try. Besides she's not calm she gets these crazy eyes sometimes that can freak a person out.
"Anyway just tell me about your days because I want to get my mind off of-everything."
I could hear the hesitation in Wesley voice but he started talking, helping me lessen my anger as I rolled to the side, facing the wall as he spoke.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mary Anne hooked an arm through mine as she pulled me along through the school behind our homeroom class. "Do you have a spare in second semester?"

I nodded as we turned. "Yeah during 1st period thankfully so I can sleep in."

"Same." Mary Anne grinned as we walked into the big auditorium.

Students were already sitting in the huge place and Mary Anne pulled me forward toward the center where Eduardo and Zen already were seated. Mary Anne pressed a light kiss on Eduardo's lips before sitting down, me on the other side of her.

"What's going to happen?" I asked Mary Anne.

"Just a huge introduction to the school. Our performances and showcases for the year. I'm honestly hoping we do a Shakespearian play."

"You just want to be the lead." Zen said in a bored tone, resting his eyes and leaning back in the comfortable chairs.

"Obviously." Beside me I saw Octavia sit down, her extension braids in a high ponytail and Sarah sit down on the side of her, texting on her Samsung galaxy S4.

"What's wrong now?" Zen said, not even opening his eyes.

Octavia huffed, leaning back in the chair before she faced us. "It's Jack. He wants me to accept it so that we can rekindle our love or some shit like that."

"I'm still saying that you should accept the offer." I heard a voice say and Mary Anne and I jumped at the sound of Kim who had appeared and sat down next to Zen.

"Um Sydney?" Sarah asked me.

I looked over Octavia to see her staring at me and at someone in the front. "Yeah?"

"Um...any idea why Isaac Crow is staring at you?"

I turned my head to face the front to catch the eye of the same blonde co-captain from the dance team staring at me. He noticed me looking back at him and gave me a smile and a small wave. I waved back before feeling myself become nervous under his gaze to look back at Sarah. "I don't know- I mean I just came to this school yesterday."

"Sounds like Isaac has a new love interest." Eduardo sang, putting an arm around the back of Mary Anne's chair.

Zen scoffed. "The way he's staring at you is making me feel like he's about to kidnap you or something."

"Isaac hasn't dated anyone since that girl at Crenshaw Hills in grade ten." Sarah said, locking her phone to fully engage into the conversation.

Octavia nudged me. "You going to get with him?"

My eyes almost bugged out of my head and I stopped the beginning of a coughing frenzy in my chest. "I don't even know the guy besides I'm not even allowed to date."

"And you're seventeen?" Kim asked and I didn't question her lifestyle. She's the one who has a tattoo of Minnie Mouse on the back of her neck.

"Kimberly that's fine," Octavia defended me. "Remember? I'm not allowed to date either."

"Yet you've had like three boyfriends and dated Jack for over a year..." Sarah mentioned.

"Yeah but my parents never found out. You know what would happen if they did? They always give me lectures about not having a boyfriend because like my mom says 'boys are bad and if you come home pregnant I'll disown you'. They always threaten to send me to Nigeria to live with my uncle or something but I'm not stupid."

"Dang that's harsh." Zen opened his eyes, before resting his head on Kim's shoulder.

I could see her face flush red even in the dim lighting of the room but she didn't say anything before her eyes widened. "Hottie Joey at nine 'clock."

I was confused before I saw all the girls even Mary Anne whip their heads to the back entrance where a guy had entered the room in front of a posse of students.

She wasn't wrong about the hottie part. She wasn't at all. His skin was tanned probably from over the summer but it contracted well. His brown hair was styled into a quiff and his brown eyes roamed throughout the theatre obviously loving the attention that came as people stared at him. And when he smiled I could see the two dimples that appeared on his cheeks, making him if possible even more attractive. "Um...who-who's that?"

"Joseph-Joey Cahill," Sarah answered, opening her Samsung back up. "He's one of the nine Cahill brothers."

"Wait the rich Cahill family? Like one of the richest families in the world?" I swear one of my old friends back home mentioned them once but I never really focused on them much.

My new friends around me nodded as Sarah continued as we watched Joey walk down the aisle towards a group of guys that surrounded him. "Yup. His father is Vince Cahill, multibillionaire tycoon and his mother was a supermodel, Elizabeth Cahill now a fashion designer."

"Big family." I mentioned, knowing there was something else to the family but I shook it off before I could ask. I honestly felt sorry for their mother.

"Yup," Kim said. "But have you seen his older brothers? Like holy shit. My cousin is so lucky."

"Why?" I asked.

"Because she's marrying the second oldest Ivan in November and he looks like a god." Kim said that in awe and Zen lifted his head from her shoulder, rolling his eyes.

"No, no, no," Octavia mumbled, leaning forward to look at Kim. "The one with green eyes that's in England right now for soccer and is also a model is a god. Too bad he has a girlfriend. She's so tall."

"You mean Samuel Cahill," Sarah said, putting her phone into her pocket. "Then there's Cedric, Toby-"

"Okay, okay you guys are giving me a headache with all the names," Mary Anne said.

"We're just informing Sydney about everything here in town. She needs to keep up with the program." Octavia said, giving me a smile.

Eduardo shifted next to Mary Anne. "So are we done talking about Joey?"

"You just hate him because he made you do the script in improv class last year."

"We got an A," Eduardo muttered. "He just didn't deserve it. I did all the work"

"He's got a brother too." Sarah said and I turned to face her confused.

"I thought you said he has eight other brothers?"

"Oh he does, it's just that he has a specific brother that also goes to this school also known as Lucas Cahill. They're identical twins."

"What's he like?" I asked, noticing how Joey was really interactive with everyone, saying hi, nodding, loving the popularity.

They all exchanged looks around me before Sarah answered. "He's different. Lucas is an artist and by far he is the most talented artist in this school. People come to buy his paintings constantly but he's reserved...not in that I don't want to talk to anyone way but...I don't know. It's hard to describe."

"Yeah," Zen spoke up. "He's a pretty chill guy but most times he likes to be alone you know? We respect that."

"Is he even here?" Octavia asked, looking around the auditorium but the lights dimmed until a woman stood on the stage along with a row of teachers. It was headmistress Violet. I knew her because she along with the dance teacher had been at my audition two weeks ago. I recognized Mr. Stiles as he stood near the end and I could hear a faint gasp near me. Octavia started laughing quietly, trying not to be loud. "Someone call an ambulance, Kimberly has just fainted at the sight of her hot vocal instructor."

I laughed with her and I could hear Kim sigh as she leaned in towards us, past Mary Anne and Eduardo. "Shut up."

Headmistress Violet cleared her throat into the microphone attached to the podium and everyone had gone silent. "Students of Hamilton Academy, to those new welcome and those old welcome back. This year we have an abundant amount of showcases, concerts and plays. Our first showcase takes place two weeks from now and it will be open to the public like always."

She started to address the school uniforms when Mary Anne groaned and put her head on my shoulder. "I'm so happy this is my last year here. If I had to go through another one of these speeches and lectures about school uniform I will cry."

"Wait he's talking shh." Kim whispered to us, eyes wide as Mr. Stiles approached the podium, explaining his duties as head of the vocal department.

Octavia rolled her eyes, making the sounds of a siren which made Kim reach over and slap her on the leg. "I'm not wrong. I remember all you said during the summer: 'Oh my God Mr. Stiles probably got hotter', 'He's a gift from the angels and blah blah blah.'

"Well do you blame me?" Kim whispered back and Sarah started laughing.

Eduardo rolled his eyes. "Can you people pay attention? I honestly wonder why I choose to hang out with you people if all you do is talk about your teachers. Sydney, Zen you two are the only people I can call normal."

"Nuh-uh," Mary Anne denied. "Sydney implied yesterday that Mr. Stiles was hot."

Eduardo looked past his girlfriend's head to gap at me. "Sydney...you've been taken out of the right side of life to the side filled with perverted girls and my crazy girlfriend."

Mary Anne slapped her boyfriend on the arm but he only grinned as Octavia scowled. "Don't be talking about perverted, Zen was the one who had a picture of a naked Kim Kardashian in his locker."

"Hey," Zen took his head off of Kim's shoulder, his voice a little bit louder than all of everyone else's whispers at the moment. "You're the one who snitched I almost got suspended, snake."

"You should have been suspended." Octavia retorted with a grin.

Zen rolled his eyes but I knew they both had been teasing when I saw the small smile on his face. "You were the one who snuck into the boys locker room that one day two years ago."

"Zen." She said with a warning tone, narrowing her eyes at him.

"Both of you shut up." Sarah mumbled, tapping on her screen that lighted up and reflected against her glasses.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ready?" Eduardo asked me and I nodded as he started to play the music but we got interrupted before I could make a move.
"Excuse me but this is my room." Matilda yelled as she walked in, dropping her duffle bag to the ground as she walked towards me.
Eduardo appeared beside me along with some other people that were allowed to have this studio for the time being to practice their Elite tryouts tomorrow and Thursday.
"No it's not Matilda." Eduardo said, pushing his hair into a low ponytail.
"Yes it is. Studio A is mine and theirs," she pointed to people who were following in behind her. I recognized Isaac as one of them. "So leave."
Eduardo looked over at Isaac. "Is this true?"
"There's probably some misunderstanding," He said, glancing at me. I was wearing skin tight shorts and a tank top. It wasn't just me, most of the other girls were wearing them too. So why the hell was he staring at me?
Eduardo sighed. "Okay you know what? We'll go. You guys take the room, we'll go to Studio D." He grabbed his duffle bag and handed me mine as the rest of our group started leaving. When he got a good distance away from Matilda he mumbled. "Bitch."
I almost started laughing when I felt a hand on my arm. I turned to face Isaac who smiled at me. "Hey."
"Um, hi." I mumbled, looking up into his eyes. I hated that I felt so nervous around multiple people.
"So Sydney, I know we barely know each other but-"
"COME ON NEW FRIEND!" Eduardo yelled, pulling me away without myself knowing what Isaac was going to talk with me about. I left my sweater back there so when I looked up with wide eyes, being dragged away I could see Matilda glowering at me as I left the room.
I almost stumbled as Eduardo let go of me, smirking. "Sarah was right, Isaac has a thing for you."
I rolled my eyes. "No, no, he doesn't." That didn't make sense.
"Yes he does." He pulled me around the large castle of a school until we reached a smaller similar studio room. People were already practicing their routines separately or in partners to improve it and Eduardo and I went to the side.
"He probably dreams of you, watches you when you aren't looking-"
"Okay now you make him sound like a stalker." I started laughing.
"I'm just seeing it as it is," Eduardo joined in my laughter. "But let me ask you an important question."
"What?" I rubbed my hands together, getting ready.
"Do you think he's cute?" Eduardo raised an eyebrow. How do people do that?
I tilted my head side to side, thinking. "Okay Isaac is cute but appearances aren't everything."
"So are you adding any tricks?" I asked him. Eduardo was an easier guy to talk to then Zen. He wasn't rude, he was friendly enough to make anyone feel welcomed. Today I noticed that Zen was the type to talk to people but when he didn't want to have a conversation with anyone he had this guarded look on his face.
He shrugged. "I was thinking of doing this." He backed up before running toward the wall. My eyes widened at the thought of him crashing into it but I thought otherwise as he pushed himself to almost run up it and push himself off into a backflip, landing steadily on his feet with power.
I could see the room shift as some people clapped. He took a mock bow before trotting back to me. "That was nothing. I have so much more planned to impress them. Now let's work on your routine."
A couple hours later and everyone had eventually left but I didn't want to leave. Eduardo looked at me as he wore sweatpants and a light sweater over his muscle shirt. "You sure you want to stay back a bit?"
I nodded. "I want to work on that one move anyway. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yup, bye Siddy." He mocked and I playfully glared at him.
"Don't call me that."
He walked out of the room, laughing. "Don't tell me what to do."
Once he closed the door, I sat down in the middle of the empty room, sighing to myself. It was only the second day and I already felt overwhelmed. I watched all the other people practice today and they were all amazing. Even the ninth graders.
I stood up on my feet, curling my toes for a second before I spun around once and did multiple pirouettes, dragging out the rotation before I jumped, spinning and stopped making sure not to land in an improper way.
I sighed, walking over to the little stand where I plugged in my crappy blackberry and looked through my songs. But when I couldn't find one that was appealing to me at the moment, I stood in the centre of the room and decided to do random moves.
I did a grand jete.
I did a penche.
I was tired.
I was drained.
I was homesick.
I missed a lot of people.
I missed taking the bus home and seeing Wesley almost fall onto the lap of someone almost everyday.
I was thinking so hard that I didn't even hear the door open just as I had landed myself into a slow bridge. I pulled myself up quickly, turning around fast.
I stood there staring at the person at the door. I was shocked as I took a deep breath. He locked eyes with me, taking a hesitant step.
It was that guy Joey Cahill but at the same time...it wasn't .
This was probably Lucas.
They had the same exact features but I could see Lucas who had his tie of the uniform around his shoulders, some paint splattered on his blazer. He had the same brown eyes as Joey but his were a little bit more intense. Same nose. Same lips. Same jaw structure. but as I looked closer I could see the spread of freckles over the bridge of his nose. Also there was the fact that he was wearing thin rimmed with black glasses that was different than his brother who didn't have them and his hair was different but not quite visible under the hat. There was beauty mark on his chin and I took notice of the red beanie on his head that matched the uniform.
Even with the differences, he was really attractive too.
Whoa.
He ran his tongue over his pink bottom lip as he stared right back at me. "Hey."
I swallowed the nonexistent lump that had formed in my throat. "Hi." I all but whispered.
"Um...sorry I was trying to find Mrs. Yousiff." His voice was nice and I could see the dimples in his cheeks appear when he talked.
He was talking about the head of the dance category here at HAA, the same teacher who had put me in the spotlight yesterday. "Uh...I think she's in her office back in studio A."
I had to go back there too considering I left my sweater there. Shit.
He almost turned to leave when I opened my mouth. "Do you think you can show me that way back...I-I'm still pretty new to the school and I don't exactly know my whole way around this big place."
Lucas turned around to face me and silently nodded, picking at the hem of his blazer. I quickly almost clumsily got my stuff together, pulling my sweatpants on and grabbing my duffle bag to sling over my shoulder. I took my Blackberry out of the cord before Lucas had held the door open for me as I shut off the lights in the room and we entered the hallway.
I felt awkward. I didn't know him then again I didn't know Eduardo, Mary Anne, Kim, Octavia, Zen or Sarah until yesterday but I didn't really get the full positive vibe I had gotten from them that I did from him. His hands were in his pockets as we started walking and I lacked a pace behind him, swiftly smelling some type of cologne that suited him.
He slowed down as we made a turn in the colorful hallways to look at me and I felt my stomach twist in nervousness. "You're Sydney right? The new girl in our grade."
"Um...you can call me that." My voice was abnormally quieter than usual.
There was a smile small on his lips as he looked at me and I almost stopped breathing. Oh fuck... "I'm Lucas. Lucas Cahill."
"I know," He raised an eyebrow at that, looking amused and I started stuttering as I corrected my words. "S-Sorry I meant that I've heard about you and your brother-"
"Joey," He said rhetorically. "Yeah usually it's always Joey and his twin brother but whatever. I'm in your third period, Advanced Functions Class or as one could say Math."
"Really?" I had to ask because honestly I never noticed him yet I usually avoided everybody's eyes and sat at a spare seat beside Sarah.
"Yeah but don't worry I don't really stand out in a room. You'll barely notice me." he said that with a smile but it was a rueful smile. How could he not stand out in a room? One look at him could have someone hooked and staring at his appearance.
"What do you mean by that?" I quietly asked as we approached the open door that led to studio A.
He didn't answer my question Mrs. Yousiff was already standing at the door looking at the two of us. She had a stern expression on her face as she handed me my light purple sweater and I took it, slipping it on. "Mr. Cahill, Ms. Acosta it's almost six o'clock, don't you both have some type of homework to do?" School had ended at two. I've been practicing for almost four hours. It wasn't that big of a deal to me but I had homework for English.
I nodded and Lucas shrugged. "Yeah, Sydney was just practicing a little more and I was finishing up an artwork for the showcase in two weeks."
"Ah a new work in progress?" she asked, looking impressed.
Lucas shrugged. "You could say that but I'm here for another reason. It involves my mum." I took notice of how he said mum but didn't have the type of accent that went with it. "My brother Ivan is getting married in a couple of weeks and his fiancée Natasha wants a dancer from the Elite team to work on a dance with my younger brother Phillip for their huge wedding. They also want that dancer to teach Phillip a couple of different styles to use for his recital in December. Do you mind if she comes in tomorrow and on Thursday to offer this to one of your dancers, preferably the older ones. She said she'll pay too for each lesson with Phillip."
Mrs. Yousiff was silent for a couple of seconds, her gaze holding Lucas before she flickered her intense eyes on me as I put my sweater on. "Tell Mrs. Cahill tryouts tomorrow will be starting at three and tryouts on Thursday will be starting at 2:10."
She nodded at both of us before walking inside studio A where her office was and closing the door. Lucas turned to face me with slightly smaller eyes. "Uh, so Sydney I guess I'll see you in class tomorrow."
I blinked frantically, trying to form words. Holy shit speak idiot! "Y-Yeah I'll, um, see you around."
He stilled for a second, staring at me for a lingering second before stepping back and walking away. My heart was beating fast in my chest and my hands were clammy as I rubbed them together, remembering the way to get to my locker.
