It's the End of the World as We Know It
and I'm feeling fine... fine... fine...
Excusing herself from the bustling party, Jesse fought her way outside, sitting on the cobblestone wall and closing her eyes. How long had it been since defeating Romeo? Twelve years? Twenty? She couldn't remember. Not that it mattered, of course - the memories were still fresh in her mind, the sky still clear, the bedrock still unbroken. Every year, the people of the world came to Beacontown to celebrate the anniversary of the un-bedrocking. She had seen Gabriel and Magnus walking around and talking this year. Ivor had dropped by and chatted with her for a few minutes before disappearing as usual. Even Lukas, poor guy, was here, followed by throngs of fans asking for signatures or to touch his hair.
She stifled a small laugh as she saw Radar talking to a townsperson, still carrying a notepad she had joked he would never leave behind. It was still pretty early, the sun still a fair distance to go before sunset, so Jesse brushed off her skirts and began to stand, preparing for a long day.
As she was getting up, something flickered above her head, and she stopped herself to take a look. A feather, glowing orange like flames, was drifting down from the sky, tipping back and forth, back and forth on the faint wind currents.
