"I DID THE BEST I COULD."
STAR KILLER BASE, FIRST ORDER-
Kyra couldn't stop grinning.
Holding the new machine part that she had obtained from the stupid Resistance pilot, Kyra looked at 4236 from the copilot seat, her smile growing even wider than before. 4236, focused on the task at hand, couldn't really notice the smile plastered on her face- but 6978 did.
"Would you wipe that cocky smirk off your face?" The older trooper groaned, already dressed back into his old attire of a Stormtrooper outfit, his mask still off. "You're going to get nowhere in the First Order if you start strutting around like you're the shit."
Giving a killer death glare back at 6978, Kyra propped her feet up on the dash, careful not to push any of the buttons on the ship. "What I can't celebrate this victory for even a second? We got what we wanted. We outsmarted the Resistance."
"Yeah, but it won't take long for them to start creating countermeasures against what you just did. I'm sure that the pilot who you just tricked is going to go running back to his base with his tail between his legs, whimpering to his leader about how he got tricked by a girl by the First Order." 6978 pointed out, earning a sigh from 4236.
"6978, just let her have this one. We don't always need to be thinking about the repercussions of everything that we do. We have time..." The man put the spaceship in stasis, allowing it to just float through space. "To celebrate our victory." Looking to his left compartment, 4236 pulled out a flask, waving it in front of Kyra and 6978's faces.
"Is that booze?" Kyra looked at the flask with a grin, snatching it out of 4236's hand, opening the cap and giving it a sniff. Smelling the strong scent of alcohol, something she hadn't smelt since her village in Sorgan, Kyra gave a giggle.
"Don't go all out yet, Princess. We still have to get back to the Star Killer base in a few hours. Ren would probably notice if you strolled into his base all out of your mind."
"Drunk." 6978 corrected, pinching his temple as his watched his inferiors smile at each other with a knowing look. "You mean if she gets herself drunk, Ren is literally going to tear her apart into a million pieces and scatter her remains across the galaxy."
"Don't be a buzzkill, 6978." 4236 groaned, taking a swig of the alcohol, the taste burning his throat as it went down. "Let the kid live a little. We might be the only chance that she gets to let her live in the outside world. Princess here can't be trapped in a cell her entire life and not know how to enjoy her time here."
The two troopers had a staring match for a moment, eye contact being held between them until 6978 gave a small sigh, his eyes showing a bit of discomfort as he looked over at Kyra. "Kai, you better not get too crazy. I really don't want to explain to Phasma why I'm carrying in two very intoxicated First Order members into the Star Killer base."
Snatching the flask back from 4236's hand, Kyra took a large swig, her face twisting in discomfort with the first taste. It was sharp, and tasted like shit. The burn as it traveled down her throat was unpleasant, and her face showed that.
"You not too happy with how it tastes, Princess?" 4236 laughed, taking the flask back and giving another small swig. "It's not for everyone." Turning behind him to where the second row of seats was inside of the ship, the trooper offered the flask back to his elder, who looked at 4236 for a moment before taking it.
Giving a sip of alcohol himself, 6978 made no face as he swallowed it down, almost savoring the taste that he had missed for years. "The last time that I was able to taste something like this was the last time we served on a trooper battalion during the First Order's early conquest days." Staring down into the flask, 6978 took another gulp, handing it back to 4236.
"Good thing I was able to swipe a flask off of that outpost on Batuu." 4236 smiled, offering the last of the flask to Kyra, who took the flask and drank the rest with an unsettled look upon her face. "Maybe the next time that we go on one of these missions-"
"If."
"If we go on one of these missions again-" 4236 corrected himself with 6978's note, looking back at him one more time, holding his hand out to Kyra to take the flask back. "I can trade for some more of that booze you call it, Princess."
"Sounds fun." Kyra grinned, feeling a little bit giddy (which might of been contributed to the alcohol). Looking out into the twinkly sky full of stars, Kyra had a desire to just stare out into the open and stay floating in the stars forever.
"Whatcha staring at, Kai?" 6978 nudged Kyra with his foot, seeing the girl zone out as she stared into the depths of space. The soft white lights of the stars reflected back against her dark brown irises, making the look of sadness hidden inside her eyes not as evident.
"The stars." She paused for a moment, considering if she should speak about what the Resistance fighter had said inside the bar. The words spat out in hatred, after a plea to have her turn against the First Order. "Do you think I'm capable of good?"
"What?"
"Princess, you've had a lot of these out of the blue questions recently. You got your head up in the clouds or something?"
"Maybe?" Kyra scrunched her face up, thinking back to the time when all she had to worry about was getting her head out of the sky, a time that wasn't filled with surviving until the next day with the First Order. "I was just- well, I was thinking about it and-" She sighed, "All of the things that I've done in my life, everything I've achieved for the First Order, they've done nothing but hurt people. The pilot even said it. What if by now I can't do something good?"
"Kai, the fact that we're even standing here with you is a fact of something you've done in your life was good. You were able to see the human in a bunch of people forced to be a part of an army that they want no part of." 6978 responded, looking at the young girl with a sense of sadness. Was this really the way the young girl looked at herself?
"Princess, I believe that anyone is capable of good. You're probably the greatest one out of everyone in the damn First Order. Who cares about whatever destiny that Ren has set for you- or Hux. You're going to make your own path." 4236 placed his hand carefully on the girl's shoulder. "Not to sound preachy, but I have a feeling that you're going to do great things." He paused for a moment, almost contemplating something. "Although that could be the alcohol speaking."
"Hey!" Kyra smacked 4236, earning a chuckle out of the two Stormtroopers. "I was just about to get settled into being complemented by you two idiots and then I get insulted." Giving a small huff, Kyra blew a piece of her hair out of her face. "Rude."
Clearing his throat to say something important, 6978 looked at the two people sitting in the cockpit in front of him. "While I'd love to have some more conversations with you all while we're slightly intoxicated, I'd say that it's about time to be heading back to base. 4236, you probably should get changed back into the regular attire."
"I know, I know." 4236 grumbled, climbing his way out of the pilot seat. "Back into that dull and drab excuse we call for a uniform. I bet the damn armor couldn't even protect us from a blaster shot." He sighed, heading to the back to slip his suit back on.
His eyes trailing 4236, 6978 turned to Kyra, his eyes genuine when he spoke to Kyra. "Kai, in all seriousness," He stopped, clasping his hands together and letting them rest at his knees as he took a deep breath in. "You are a good person. And if you don't believe you're not, I don't think it's ever too late for you to start trying."
Rising from his spot after he spoke, the man patted Kyra on the shoulder, looking down at her with an almost older brotherly smile. "I'm going to go check on the idiot in the back. He sometimes has a hard time with getting the armor back on."
Kyra gave a small nod, her attention turning back towards the stars. The words of the Resistance pilot still echoed in her head- along with the memories of the horrible things that she had done to get to the point of being able to drink fire water with the two troopers she dared to call her friends. All the blood on her hands, all of the lines inked into her skin-
"We got everything sorted." 4236 clamored back up to his seat in the pilot position, now wearing his helmet. Kyra could tell that there was a scowl hidden behind it, the girl realizing during their mission how much he detested the restricting headwear. "Let's get our girl and this item back to base, eh?"
When the three arrived back at base, the place seemed to be one of chaotic calm, a scene that Kyra had grown quite accustomed to. People running back and forth from the hangar to the various rooms of the hallways, troopers helping unload the ship and the cargo that the three on the mission to Batuu had brought back.
Climbing down out of the walkway, machine piece gripped in the girl's hand, Kyra looked carefully around her as she roamed the hallways, her two Stormtrooper friends going off to have their own debrief of some sort, in which she assumed they were going to be analyzed by Phasma. Taking the twisted turns down to the elevator, Kyra saw the same sights as she roamed the halls. Patrol after patrol, and the occasional dressed up First Order operator that was running from one place to another.
When Kyra arrived at the elevator shaft, she almost wanted to give a sigh of relief. Having all the eyes on her as she passed through the hallways was something that she did not quite enjoy, especially when she had something glowing in her right hand as she walked by. With a small exhale, the pressure relieved from her system, Kyra pressed the button, waiting patiently as she tucked her arms behind her back.
Tapping her foot in impatience, the girl didn't even realize General Hux stroll up right beside her, his sneer wide as he glanced over at her. "Solani, I see you've returned from your mission." He spoke in a rather nasally tone, Kyra's face turning into one of disgust at his voice.
"Hux, nosy as always into other's business." Kyra griped back, seeing his eyes trail down to the thing that she was holding inside of the folded cloth. "Don't think I didn't see you eyeing whatever it is I have in my hand."
"I suppose I'll find out soon enough." The man huffed, sticking his nose up at her, looking down upon her as if she were nothing but lowly scum. "After all, Kylo Ren is having me look at whatever it is you're holding later on."
"And until then, I don't want to see you in my sight." Kyra retorted, hearing the small chime of the elevator, stepping in gratefully. Pressing the desired button to reach Ren's floor, Kyra gave a sickening stare back at Hux. "Have fun catching your own ride." She smiled devilishly at the man, watching the doors shut in front of him, ending their conversation quite nicely.
This time, there was no waiting in tension inside of the elevator in fear of what Kylo Ren would do to Kyra. This time, Kyra was a spy for the First Order, a woman assigned to missions that she would complete.
And she had just come back successful.
Hearing the doors slide open again, Kyra wasted no time in walking out into Ren's quarters, finding him already waiting for her there. His hood was no longer over his mask, making the man seem a little less intimidating than he used to be.
"I sensed your return." Ren ominously spoke, not facing the girl. He was facing the window, staring out at the progress that the First Order was making with the Star Killer base. "And I assume that you did not come back to me empty handed."
Seeing a table in front of her, the only thing separating her and Ren. Kyra placed the piece on the table, sliding it down the furniture until it bumped up against Kylo Ren's hand. "One piece of the thermal oscillator, found and returned for you, sir."
Grabbing the machinery from its place on the table, Ren studied it for a moment before speaking, his voice filling with pride. "Excellent. And I assumed that you had no fights with this Resistance member that you grabbed this from?"
"None at all. I'd say that we were the ones that gave him trouble."
"We?"
"The two troopers I took on the mission and I, sir. I have to say, we made quite good work of it. They'd be a valuable part of my team, assuming that we continue this endeavor of me retrieving things for you and going on missions, of course."
"What are their names?"
"FN-4236 and FN-6978, Sir."
"I'll see to it that they are reassigned from Phasma's division to be under your personal watch, Solani. From now on, they are under your authority and your authority only."
"Thank you."
"I assume you need nothing else? No more backup or anything?"
"No. There was not much trouble, although I would like to say, the tracking device really isn't necessary inside of the suit, along with all of that other experimental technology you have inside of it."
Earning a surprised look from Ren, Kyra arched an eyebrow at the leader. "You honestly think I wouldn't notice? There's no inhibitor on my powers in there. You just had Deftrine put in a tracking device and some sort of paneling to shock me so I don't defy you."
"There is a brain of yours inside of that head. " Ren muttered, giving an almost amused chuckle at the girl. "Although I do admit, we had to put a tracking device inside of your suit for... security. We can't exactly have our greatest asset running around untraceable."
"Of course not. It's not like I had anywhere to go anyways that you wouldn't find me." Kyra sarcastically whispered to herself, making sure it wasn't heard by Ren. "Regardless, I've completed the mission successfully."
"You have."
"What now?" She asked, seeing the sith in training turn around to face Kyra, his mask meeting her eyes for a few unflinching seconds. It wasn't long before Kylo Ren motioned for Kyra to come stand by side with her, however, the girl quickly following in pace with him as he stood at the window view of his ship.
"Now, we give you the next mission." He handed over a new black fob, filled with information that Kyra was sure to look over in a few moments, when Ren had finished discussing the details of her last mission with her.
"And where would this next mission be taking me?"
"Corellia."
