Chapter 15
Harrison: Hey
Harrison: I've finished my part for the short film
Harrison: Do you want me to send it to you or do you want to meet up?
Seeing Harrison's name pop up on your phone screen felt like someone was putting a dagger through your heart. Reading the boy's messages you eyes landed on the last message you had received from him before the ones he had just sent a minute ago.
Harrison: I'll be there in 20. xx
It's been four weeks since you had last spoken to him and it's been only six weeks since you had been the happiest version of yourself. Your mind went back to the day from where you officially should've stayed nothing more than just friends.
"So, Harry will be joining us, Sam's busy." Harrison smiled as he re-entered his bedroom after he went out to ask Tom if any of the boy were joining you at the bowling alley.
The two of you clearly avoided talking about what had just happened and went on with the evening, pretending like you didn't kiss each other again after your fake relationship had ended. You knew it was easy for Harrison to kiss a girl and move on with his life, but for you, it wasn't as easy, especially not when it was Harrison.
Every time Harrison got up from his seat next to you to throw his bowling ball, you noticed yourself drifting off into this dream in which he wasn't just one of your new friends or your fake ex boyfriend. Every time you saw him smile at you, you felt your heart skip a beat as you tried to push away your deepest and darkest feelings, you had tried so hard to not develop.
After playing four games and Tom winning each of the game, the four of you decided it was time to go home since it was getting pretty late.
Harrison offered you to stay over for a little sleepover and as much as you wanted to accept the offer you knew it would have you end up with more confusing thoughts in your head, so you declined and told him that you'd rather go home.
The next week went by quickly as you spent most of your time with Harrison working on the project, but at the same time taking a few steps back every time he got too close to you. Being close to Harrison had its effects on you and you kept telling yourself that you needed to stop with those stupid feelings because they would only get your heart broken.
Harrison loved spending time with you and much to his confusing there was only one thing he had noticed over the past week that he didn't like about you: the fact that you weren't his girl anymore. He hated to not be able to kiss you. He hated to not call you a cute pet name you would get annoyed with and he hated that you were single and could find another guy any minute.
Tears welled up in you eyes as you thought about how stupid you were for being the one to distance yourself. How could you be so stupid? How was it possible for you to be the one to mess everything up when Harrison was the one known for breaking hearts? Your mind went back to the day you had last kissed the boy you had gotten so close to over the span of just two weeks, the day that had marked the official end of your fake relationship.
The two of you had been working on your short film for the past week and everything was going well until Tom was invited to a little party to which he dragged you with him. To your surprise you immediately were greeted by a few of your friends and decided to let Harrison have a little time for himself and to do whatever he did best when he was out.
You would be lying if you said that you didn't want him to get with someone else tonight, but who were you to be jealous? The two of you were friends and fake ex partners, so nothing was giving you the right to tell to boy to stop living his life.
Harrison spend the next few hours with Tom, playing drinking games and answering questions about yours and his relationship status.
"Why don't you just start dating? And try the real thing?" Tom groaned as Harrison had just shot down another questing about you.
"We're friends."
"So you're telling me you don't feel anything for her?" Tom asked, his eyebrow raised. He knew he didn't need to ask the question, because it was clear to him that Harrison was starting to fall for you, but was it so obvious to the two of you?
"I- No-, I mean.." Harrison started but somehow something inside of him refused to let 'no' be the final answer to that question, "I don't know. I-I don't think I've ever felt what I feel when I am with her"
"You may want to tell her, because that guy over there is heavily flirting with your girl." Tom said as he looked behind Harrison to where you were standing and talking to one of Jess' friends.
You didn't see Harrison make his way over to you but you immediately knew how it was once he had his arms wrapped around you as he pulled you into his front.
"Wanna play beer pong?" Harrison mumbled as he placed a soft kiss on your shoulder, making goosebumps appear all over your skin, as you hated yourself for the effect he had on you.
"Yeah, I'll be right there." You smiled. It wasn't until now that you noticed Simon standing awkwardly in front of you, "This is Simon by the way."
"Harrison." Harrison said as he held out his hand to greet your friend.
"Does Tom still need a partner?" You asked as you thought about a way to get Simon involved in beer pong.
"Who said you were playing on my team?" The blonde grinned as you smacked his arm, "Kidding! I won't let Tom steal you away from me this time - and yes he still needs a partner."
The beer pong game started bad for you since Harrison was just absolute trash, but somehow you managed to be the team who had just one cup to score left with the others still having three cups to score.
"Come on, Love. You can do it." Harrison smiled as you stepped to the table to throw the last ball.
Everything went by in a blur as you saw the ball land in the cup before you were picked up by Harrison who almost crushed you as he celebrated your win. Somehow you ended up with you legs wrapped around the boys middle as he smiled proudly at you.
"Told you, you could do it."
"There's a reason they call me the beer pong queen." You grinned as you unwrapped your legs from the boy before he let you down again.
"They don't call you that." Harrison chuckled before brushing a strand of you hair behind your ear, making the rest of the people disappear for you as your focus was on Harrison - and only on Harrison.
"They may as well start." A smile appeared on your face on seconds before you saw Harrison's eyes flutter down to your lips as he started leaning in.
Your hands immediately found their favourite spot on the back of the boy's neck as you pulled him in for the much awaited kiss. It wasn't until some random guy started cheering that you were being pulled out of you own little world, making you realise what just happened.
"I-I need some fresh air." You whispered as you let your hands fall back to your sides before making your way out the back door of the house.
Harrison didn't know what to do. He knew he should've gone after you to check if you were okay but something about him not being able to think clearly when he was close to you, scared the hell out of him.
Whenever he was with you he craved your touches, he tried everything to make you smile and he wished for nothing else than to make you happy - and that shit had never happened before with any of the girls he'd been with.
He knew you were special the minute you stepped into his life, but he had never seen you as someone who could turn his life upside down. He had never thought you were the one to get his heart racing without doing anything special and he had never thought that you were the one he could see himself in a real relationship with.
It took the boy half an hour to get himself to check up on you. He saw you sitting down on the grass with you back leaned against on the trees in the garden.
"Are you okay?" The blonde asked as he sat down next to you.
"What are we doing, Harrison? This fake shit is over." You mumbled.
"I-I don't know." Harrison had never confessed any feelings for anyone and he had never asked anyone to be his real girlfriend.
"This fake relationship has to officially stop, for our own sake, we need to tone those touches down and definitely stop the kissing."
"Y-Yeah you're right."
"So, we're still friends, right?" You smiled as you turned your head to look at Harrison.
"Yes, friends." Harrison tried to fake a smile as he wished he would've just had the balls to tell you that he wanted this to be real. That he wanted you to be more than just his friend.
"Then you need to stop looking at me like that.", was what you wished you would've said out loud when the two of you got back up.
Just. Friends.
What would've happened if you didn't tell him that the two of you needed to tone it down a bit after your fake relationship was over? What would've happened if you just continued to kiss each other and see where you would've ended up? Thinking about the day you wished you could go back to just to make things go different made tears roll down your cheeks.
Memories of the day that ended your friendship flooded your mind as you remembered everything that led to you not being on speaking terms anymore.
Harrison had come over to your place to work on a few ideas for the short film, but somewhere down the line you got bored to the point where you started a movie on Netflix.
You were leaning against the headboard of you bed, Harrison mirroring your position as you could feel him looking at you more and more.
"Is there anything on my face?" You grinned as you turned your head to look at him.
"We can make this real." Harrison whispered as he reached out to take your hand.
"We can't, Harrison." you scoffed, not sure if the realization that Harrison wanted this to be real hit you already.
"Why not?"
"Because this," you said, motioning between the two of as your other hand was still firmly holding on to Harrison's hand, "isn't real. It never was. We were just pretending."
Because if you pretend it wasn't real, you won't get hurt, right?
"Oh please, don't tell me that all those times we kissed meant fuck all to you? Are you seriously telling me that I'm the only one who felt this connection between us? Who can't fucking stop thinking about you? Who is craving your kisses and touches every time you're not around?" Harrison said, as he let go of your hand, looking at you with his eyebrow raised, "I don't know when or why this happened, but I all I knew is that I hate being apart from you."
"I-I don't know, Harrison. This is - I don't know, this is - you." As soon as you said that, you saw the hurt in Harrison's eyes, making you want to take back everything you had just said, "I - I thought you didn't like labels and real .. relationships."
"Yeah, of course." The blonde scoffed as he got up from the bed, "Of fucking course you still think that little of me."
"That was one of the first things you told me when we started talking. I-" You started as you got up to stop him from walking out of your door. "You know I don't think that li-"
"No? Because if I was any other guy you would've probably thought it was super adorable that he's currently trying to confess that he has some fucked up feelings for you, oh sorry, fucked up fake feelings, but no, it's just me. Just the guy you think has hooked up with the whole fucking country and doesn't do feelings, right?" Harrison scoffed, as he grabbed his jacket, clearly done with this conversation, "I got the message, (Y/N). I should've known that you would never see me as more, I mean you've told me that like ten times."
"Harrison-" You didn't know what to say, all you knew was that there was currently a lump in your throat and that tears had started to form in your eyes.
You could feel that you had hurt him - and seeing his face change and show how much he was hurt by your words made you feel miserable.
"No, it's fine, (Y/N). I get it, I'll continue playing my sick little games and you'll continue with whatever you're doing. I'll send you the shit for our project as soon as I'm done since that's the only reason why you got involved in this in the first place, right?" Harrison scoffed before turning around to leave.
You wanted to stop him from leaving. You wanted to pull him into your arms to tell you that you fell for him as well, that you hadn't had a good nights sleep in two weeks and that you couldn't stop thinking about him as well. You wanted nothing more than to kiss him - but you couldn't, not because it was Harrison, but because you were scared to admit to yourself that Harrison had managed to make you feel things you had never felt before.
Being with Harrison wasn't part of your plans, you had your goals for the next few years and things you wanted to do - and falling for Harrison definitely wasn't something you expected. How could it? He had told you from the start that he wasn't looking for anything serious - and neither were you and yet you still found yourself enjoying this fake relationship with him more than you had ever planned, making you overthink all you future plans as you didn't see yourself going through them alone anymore.
Watching the boy walk out of your front door broke your heart. You had gotten attached to him and so used to him being around you. You had built up such a stable friendship over the past weeks and you were sad to see it go - to see him go. This was it, the moment you had feared from the start, the moment you had threatened the most, the moment that shattered your heart into pieces.
You got into this, thinking that Harrison would never be able to break your heart since you knew his game and you knew that your relationship wasn't real. Never in a million years did you imagine being the one to break not only your own heart, but his as well. You knew you had hurt him the minute you saw the spark in his eyes die. You could see the pain in his eyes whenever he had looked at you after you had said those words to him - and you knew that you may have ended up being the reason for him to turn even more into the guy you told him he was.
Blinking away the tears in your eyes and wiping away the wetness on your cheeks, you opened Harrison's messages to type a reply to his question:
Let's meet.
