Chapter 2

Christine was in the middle of a project when she felt two strong arms wrap around her waist.

"Hello sweetheart." John said as Christine smiled.

"Hey darling." Christine said as she stared at John.

"Are you busy right now?" John asked her as she smiled.

"Just finishing up. What's on your agenda for us today?" Christine asked him.

"I thought we could have dinner at my place. What do you say?" He asked as Christine panicked.

"Dinner at his place, oh my God!" She was panicking on the inside.

"I'd love to have dinner at your place!" She said.

"Great, I'll come pick you up around 6:30 and we'll be off." He said as Christine was speechless.

"Great darling, I'll see you then." She said as John left and Christine felt as if she were about to faint.

Later on that day, Christine got home to see Stevie sleeping on the couch, likely since she just got home from working the breakfast shift and the poor girl was exhausted, it was all over her face.

"Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into?" Christine asked herself out loud, waking Stevie up.

"Christine, what's wrong?" Stevie asked.

"You won't believe what John asked me today as I was finishing up my piece for the museum." Christine said.

"By the way you're acting, it's just like he asked you to marry him or something. Wait, did he?" Stevie asked her.

"No, but we've only been dating for three weeks and it's not time for a marriage proposal yet." Christine said.

"Then, what did he ask you that's got you pacing the floor?" Stevie asked her.

"He asked me to have dinner with him." Christine said as Stevie looked at her and cocked her head to the side.

"And?" Stevie questioned.

"He wants me to have dinner with him at his house, I mean, he has never had dinner here before. I was going to ask him when the time was perfect and now, it's just all coming way too fast." Christine said.

"Do you really want to bring John here?" Stevie questioned her as she went on. "I mean, you can cook and all that but I would never cook for a man in this place." She said as Christine looked at her.

"Stevie, we haven't even said I love you yet and now, we're going to have dinner at his house." Christine said.

"Calm down, maybe you'll both say it tonight. You are happier than I have ever seen you in a long time, what's wrong with just a nice night with a man who values you in a way that you've never been before?" Stevie questioned.

"You're right, now will you help me pick out an outfit and help me with my hair and makeup. I'm a nervous wreck and I will mess it all up because I get to have dinner with the sweetest man in the whole world." Christine said.

"Yes, I'd love to help you. What time is he coming to pick you up?" Stevie asked.

"6:30." Christine said as Stevie looked at the clock.

"We've got four hours, we have time  but let's go find an outfit." Stevie said as she dragged Christine to both her room and Christine's room.

"Now, imagine what John would want to see on you. Solids, prints, see-through, non-see through. What's your pick?" Stevie asked.

"How about your black, strapless dress that you wore for Mick's engagement party a couple of years ago?" She asked.

"Okay." Stevie said, digging through her closet but did not see it.

"I think I gave that away but what about, this." Stevie said, pulling out a short-sleeved red floral dress.

"Let me try it on while you keep looking." Christine said as she changed out of her leggings and blouse from work.

Christine tried the dress on, seeing herself in the mirror, noticing it was a little too short for her liking.

"Too short." Christine said.

"Try this on then." Stevie said, handing her a purple dress with lace on top as she changed into it, liking it instantly but it was too hot for it.

"It's hot and I'll burn up in it." Christine said as Stevie then handed her a satin cream cashmere dress that was flowy and had spaghetti thin straps as she tried it on and smiled at herself in the mirror.

"This is perfect, I love it." Christine said, dancing in front of the mirror as Stevie laughed.

"I do too but it's my best dress, so be careful and don't ruin it." Stevie said.

"Okay." Christine said.

"Now, onto hair and makeup. Straight or curly?" Stevie asked, examining Christine's blonde locks, running her fingers through it.

"Let's section it and put hot rollers in. John always loves my hair when it's curled." Christine said.

"He also loves your long, tan legs too." Stevie said as Christine laughed.

"Whatever you say." Christine said.

"It's true, everyone has asked who has the best legs and everyone always says Christine Perfect." Stevie said.

"Why was I cursed with that being my last name, I will be glad when one day, I won't be that anymore." Christine said.

"Yeah, you'll be Christine McVie." Stevie said.

"You don't know that John and I will get married, it's too soon but if we do then you'll be my matron of honor." Christine said.

"You will get married like you always dreamed of and then, you'll have two kids and live in your dream house and be the director of the museum." Stevie said.

"Stevie, you know I'm not going to leave you here in the mosh pit of an apartment by yourself. You're going to come live with me and we'll be drinking margaritas out by the pool." Christine said.

"That's if you and John get married before Lindsey asks me to move in with him, which I highly doubt because he hasn't answered the phone in two days." Stevie said, working on Christine's hair.

"He'll come around." Christine said.

"Yeah, I don't know anymore." Stevie said.

"If it gets to be too much, go over and see him. I know he misses you. Why don't you go over there tonight, you have the weekend off, so while I'm at John's, go over and see Lindsey. Go spend the night over there and have some fun, unwind and just have a wonderful night with him." Christine said.

"You know what, you're right. That's what I'll do, go over there and surprise him." Stevie said.

"Yes, that's a great idea." Christine said as Stevie secured the last roller in Christine's hair.

"Alright, now makeup time. A soft, sultry look will work." Stevie said as she got to work on Christine's makeup.

...

It was now 6:15, Christine was panicking again about the doorbell ringing any minute. She wanted to put those fears aside and give herself the same advice she'd given Stevie earlier, who was getting ready to go see Lindsey.

"Just relax Christine, you're going to have a great night." Stevie said, looking at the way Christine was panicking.

"I can't help it, it's just been a long time since I've been to a man's house." Christine said.

"You're having those same feelings that you said you had in high school, it's just like when you have to give a speech for the first time or singing in front of a large group of people. I've done both but at the end, it's totally worth it." Stevie said.

"I'm going to have a great night." Christine said.

"Just keep telling yourself that and ignore the negative, unless you start seeing any red flags." Stevie said.

"I will. By the way, just in case or any reason you need to call me, I left John's number on a piece of paper on your nightstand, just put it in your wallet and if you need me, I'll be on my way home." Christine said.

"I know but I don't know what tonight holds." Stevie said as Christine was unsure for herself too.

The doorbell rang as Christine stood up, went to the door as Stevie motioned her to open it as she did with shaking hands.

"Hello Christine and hello to you too Stevie." John said.

"Hi John, it's nice to see you again and I'm on my out. Have fun!" Stevie said to John as she walked past him and whispered the last part in Christine's ear.

"I will." Christine said back as she stood in the doorway.

"These are for you." John said as he pulled out a bouquet of red roses as he handed them to her as Christine smiled.

"Thank you and these are beautiful John but you shouldn't have." Christine said as she went to the kitchen to put them in a vase with water.

"A lady as beautiful as you are, deserves roses." John said as Christine blushed.

"You are too kind." She said.

"Well, how about dinner?" He asked.

"I'm ready, let me just get my purse and we'll head out." She said as she grabbed her purse and they walked out of her apartment, locking the door and headed to his car as he opened the door for her and kissed her cheek.

...

They arrived at his house as he put the car in park, Christine had that nervous feeling again but told herself to think of the positive.

"You have a beautiful house John." Christine said as John smiled.

"Well, it'll be better with you here. Now, let's go inside. Dinner is almost ready and I have a bottle of Pinot in the ice bucket for us." He said as he got out and came over to open her door, she looked out at the scenery around her as she thought about the adventures they could have together.

"Sounds wonderful." She said.

"Would you like to eat outside and watch the sunset go down after while?" He asked.

"I'd love to." Christine said as she smiled as they walked up the stairs as he unlocked the door and he walked into the kitchen to check on dinner while Christine admired the way the sun shine over the beach as she got lost in the sparkling, blue ocean water as John stood behind her, putting his hands on her hips.

"The beach has always been one of my favorite places to visit and I told myself that one day when I was old enough and I had the money that I was going to live by the ocean and have the most beautiful woman in the world by my side." John said as he kissed her neck.

"It's beautiful." Christine said.

"Not as beautiful as you are Christine." He said.

"Nonsense. I mean, look at the way the sun brings out the blue in the ocean." Christine said.

"I see but the ocean reminds me of your eyes and the sun reminds me of the color of your hair." He said as he placed kisses all over the side of her neck and shoulder.

Christine enjoyed the sensation but then, the sound of her stomach rumbling interrupted them.

"Dinner is ready, so let me indulge you in some things I've learned to cook while I've been home." John said as he took Christine's hand and led her into the kitchen and pulled out her chair while he served them dinner.

"It smells great." She said as he played her food.

"When I was in Paris with Mick for a promotional tour, we went to this restaurant one night and they served this, so I examined the way it was  plated, the ingredients and what flavors they put in it and served. It was absolutely scrumptious, so I wanted to serve the best to my lady." John said as he sat down and poured her a glass of wine and one for himself.

"What is it called?" She asked.

"It's called Coq au Vin." He said.

"Something else I will pronounce wrong but it certainly looks delicious and I haven't eaten anything but a little sandwich and an apple from where I work." Christine said.

"Go ahead sweetheart, take the first bite." He said as she took a bite and it was like a masterpiece melting in her mouth.

"It's absolutely scrumptious darling." Christine said as she didn't want to look like she hadn't eaten in days in front of him but John wasted no time but he had manners about him.

"I got you something else. I'll be right back and enjoy your dinner and glass of wine." He said, getting up and walking out of the kitchen.

Something else? What could that mean?

She thought to herself as she knew she would be fine to whatever it was he had for her.

He came back, holding something as she couldn't make out what it was as she smiled at him as he walked back in the kitchen.

"Here you are darling, open it." He said, placing the box in front of her.

She opened it and found a necklace with a little paintbrush on it.

"Oh darling, it's beautiful." She said.

"There's more. Look behind the necklace." He said as she looked at him and she looked behind the little card piece and found a key.

"Christine, I know it's only been a three weeks but I don't want to miss another moment without you. I love you and I want to be with you till the end of time, will you move in with me?" He asked.

She was now panicking on what to say as she looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes.

"John?"
