Growing up is embarrassing

Thought I'd bring this story back

"What is that?"

"My thigh high crocs"

"Kirishima, no"

The week went by and they decided to meet up, with their new friend too.

"Bakugou, these crocs are epic"

They both stare at them "Where did you even get them?"

They decided to meet up at their local park. Not much people go there, just their luck.

Some people started to sell drugs there some long time ago, and parents decided not to bring their kids there anymore.

It's not happening anymore, well not that much. But ever since it's just empty there. Something like a ghost park, dead park? It's really dried out too.

But it's good. Annoying kids and overly strict parents won't bother them.

"I found them at the junk yard"

"What a betrayal, you went there without me?" Kaminari came running towards them

"You went to a family dinner that day, you idiot" he waits until he finally reaches them "Where's Mina, you usually show up together?"

Kaminari shrugs "Her parents said she already went out, so I just assumed she was here already"

"And I am now" they all turn around and see Mina walk to them with a backpack "I got us a little something and met our friend on the way" she points at Todoroki who was walking a little bit behind her "Nice crocs Kiri"

"Thanks" Kirishima turns to Bakugou and gives him the 'see other like it' look. "Anyway, what did you get?"

The next couple of hours they just spend there, in the park. Talking, drinking a little, and smoking.

Living in a small boring town, limits their activities. No shopping malls, cool places, or people. It can get really tiring.

And fucked up kids aren't something tragic. The ones who start smoking at ten, stealing alcohol this and that. It's only normal by now. Kids from big cities would probably think, this town is stuck in year 2009 or something. It just has that kind of vibe.

"My parents are getting a divorce" Kaminari said after they were quite for some time "You know how a couple of months ago my neighbours called the police cause they heard screaming? Shortly after that they decided to do that. They only told me today"

"With whom are you gonna stay?"

He shrugs "I would like to stay with neither, but I would need to move to another town and that's not really what I want to do now. My parents are going to decide for me anyways" he lies down on the dry ground and groans

"Don't worry man, school is over soon" Kirishima also lies down

"I wish my parents would get a divorce" Bakugou stood up went over to the two and lied down on the other side, so that their head were next to each other. Mina and Todoroki didn't move.

"Why? It's stressful"

"Cause they do nothing but scream. You should all know by now"

"Is there even anything good about your parents being divorced?" Kaminari asked

"My parents are divorced, for a long time already" Todoroki didn't speak much, but every now and then he would also add to the conversation "But it didn't really change either of them" and when he spoke up, he had everyone's attention, maybe because he rarely speaks "My mother needs mental help, so I never actually see her. My dad is just as abusive as he was"

Maybe there is still some connection to an old partner even when they broke everything off. And not in a romantic way, it's just that they spend a lot of time together, so a connection became natural.

But also the kids don't have to see their parents in pain, pretending to love their partner. It's frustrating in the end.

"Parents are overrated" Bakugou says "I wish I could love them, but oh well I don't"

Kaminari hums in agreement "I get angry when I see a family with a good relationship. It's just unfair I guess"

"I don't wanna be a mother"

"But you're gonna disappoint your husband" Kaminari says in a mocking voice, pretending to be every adult ever talking to a teenager who doesn't fit their description of perfect

"Well he can suck my dick"

It's really annoying, being told what you want by adults. Just because they lived longer and had more experiences, doesn't mean they know what a person wants, especially when it comes to forming your own life.

They want to limit ones plans, wishes, or even dreams. That is what they're also doing in school right? Testing your memory, saying what career would be useless, constantly reminding you that you won't make it unless you pass every test.

That's not what it should be about.

Some would probably say it's embarrassing to be an adult. After hearing their ideals forced on you, and hearing your dreams being crushed because someone decided a kid who didn't pass math won't make it great in life.

It's unfair really.

Maybe from time to time even adults think that. They don't say "I wish I was young again" for no reason. And they think it's a shame that children want to grow up faster.

It's adults who crush the hope that young people have.

Kirishima sighs deeply "Guys, let's not talk about our old people. I hate all this" he covers his face with an arm to block the sun "I wanna have a break from them at least when I'm out"

"Okay then" Mina smiles "How's your bet with Kaminari going?"

"Damn Min' it's been like two days, how the fuck am I gonna get in a relationship that fast?"

She shrugs "You always talk big when it comes to Jirou or Shinsou"

"Because they obviously want me"

"Jirou obviously wants Momo"

"Shut up Min' you just can't handle all my coolness"

Kirishima sits up "Talking about coolness. I saw lightning McQueen crocs at the junk yard. Wanna go grab then later?"

"Sounds like the junk yard is y'alls shopping mall or something" Todoroki takes a drag and exhales the smoke up after throwing his head back

"It kinda is" Kaminari sits up and the other two follow up again "I got my bed from there"

"Is it a lightning McQueen bed" Todoroki says jokingly

"I wish, bro"

At the end of the day, they decided to go there sometime soon. Kirishima and Kaminari decided to go that day, to get the crocs for Kaminari.

So, Kirishima and Kaminari left to go to the junk yard, Mina back to her family to help out in the house, Bakugou and Todoroki got left behind.

"Do y'all always have this kind of deep conversations?"

"From time to time I guess. Why, you think it's cringe?" he smiles and shakes his head

Todoroki furrows his eyebrows and shakes his head "No, it's comforting in a way"

"Are you ready for the finals?"

Todoroki shakes his head "Not really. If I want to I, my father will use his money to get me through all the bullshit after school"

"You wanted to find you brother, right?"

"You remember?"

"Yeah? I mean I don't listen to you, just to kind of to ignore you and forget every word you said. So be careful not to do anything embarrassing, these idiots will remember"

And so, just like that, Todorokis day got better. Knowing that people actually listen to you and remember what you tell them, it's nice.

After always being ignored, ineruppted, or just not included, it's the bare minimum that makes one happy.

They started to talk more, sensitive topics, past, relations, it got personal.

Todoroki found out more about Bakugou's family, plans for life and everything that goes with it.

Bakugou found out more about his family status, parents, brother, old town, where he came from.

But they also found out simple things about each other. Favorite this and that, interests, dislikes.

They got closer.

Bakugou doesn't know if he regrets letting another person closer to him, but right now he doesn't. There's something about him that just makes you open up.

But Todoroki was happy. Finally having someone who listens.

Them open up to each other, results them also being closer in school. Walking around almost always together, doing projects together.

They didn't notice how much more they got closer, the people around them did.

This summer is one they will remember.
