ALEX'S POV.

She was fast asleep, I had to carry her into her room. Actually, the house wasn't that big, so it was easy for me to get the room. I really didn't know if the room was hers but at least I tried, I laid her on the bed.
I slept on the couch in the living room, It was so uncomfortable. I gotten bitten by dozens of mosquitoes, I slapped myself countless of times. Well, thank God for electricity, it would have been worse.
I can't spend another night here, I said within me.

It was exactly 1:20 am when I heard footsteps coming from the room. Is she awake? I asked myself and sat up.

"Hi, I'm sorry I slept off last night, I was so stressed and tired." She yawned and sat on the couch.

"It's fine." I smiled.

"Well, you should have taken a blanket since you knew you'd be sleeping on the couch." She said looking sleepy.

"I can't just start going through your stuff," I told her.

"Oh, then you ought to have slept on the bed so you could share the one I have in my room." She yawned again. I guess she was sleeptalking, it would have been indecent to sleep on the same bed with her without her permission; what if she woke up and slap me.

"Alex, come and sleep inside." She pulled me.

"OK, but I prefer to sleep in another room to avoid inconveniences," I told her.

"The only room left is my aunt's." She said with her eyes closed.

"I can manage hers." I looked at her.

"The thing is, I can't sleep alone in that room. I'm scared." She told me, now her eyes were wide opened.

"Haha, isn't that your room? Don't you sleep alone? Besides you slept in the whole house alone last night." I chucked.

"Actually, I didn't close my eyes all through that night." She said to me.

"Really?" I was surprised.

"So, Cmon. Let's go." She pulled me again, this time, harder. I followed her into her room.

"How did you know this room is mine? like, you brought me here." She asked.

"Smart guess." I smiled.

"Really." She looked at me.

"Yes, really." I smiled.

She climbed the bed and I was a bit nervous and tensed, I just wasn't comfortable. We were both on the bed, she took the blanket over us. I faced the other side and had my back facing her.
"Alex? Are you comfortable?" She asked.

"I'm okay," I said, not facing her.

"Alright."

I woke up to see Rose's head on my chest and her hands wrapped around me, she slept with a smile on her face. I couldn't have myself disrupt such beautiful sleep.

There was a loud knock on the door, Rose woke up immediately.
"Rose, who could that be." I panicked.

"It's dawn already." She yawned. The knock came again.

"Who could that be Rose?" I said again.

She laughed, pointing her finger at me. "Why are you shivering." She laughed and said: "I'll go check."
I followed her, and we were both astounded by who we met at the door.

"David?" I was so happy to see him.

"Come in David, good morning." Rose smiled.

"So what are you guys now? Married couples." He smiled and walked in.

"Guy, what's up. I missed you big time, you suddenly disappeared." I gave him a hug.

"I missed you guys too, I got to your house and it was locked so I decided to check up on her and to my greatest surprise, I have you here. What a wonder." He smiled.

"And you decided to make it an early morning thing right?"  I asked.

"Early morning, don't you have a clock or wristwatch. It's almost midday! Guy." He laughed.

Rose looked at him and smiled.

"I went to my uncle's house at Ibadan to clear my head, I needed space from everyone. My parents, her parents, I mean Martha's though." David explained.

"Oh," I said.
"How's Martha? Is she okay?" Rose looked concerned.

"She traveled to the UK, her parents insisted on having her stay there." He told us.

"So how's fatherhood coming up?" I asked.

"I'm trying." He laughed and we all laughed.

"So Alex, you spent the night here? With her aunt and aunt's husband?" He was curious.

Rose and I looked at each other and smiled.

"It's a loooooooooooong story," I said to him.

"Well, I'm willing to listen." He smiled.

ROSE'S POV.

Alex did the talking, all I did was just to nod my head in approval to what he said. It was no big deal that we told David the whole story, we had to do that to clear all odds.

"Wow, that's really bad." He said.

"So you mean your aunt murdered her ex-husband? And also hired assassins to kill your parents? And you guys think the assassins are Alex's parents? I'm so sorry for the hard times, guys." He looked pitiful.

"It's okay." I smiled.

"But how did they connect? Like this is mysterious!" David said.

"I was surprised too," Alex told him.

"Wow!" He said again.

"They've all been detained," I added.

"Oh, and have they confessed?" He asked further.

"Well, my aunt has." I feigned a smile.

"I'm so sorry about your parents Alex." He looked at Alex.

"They're not my parents!" Alex said calmly.

"Oh, I forgot you mentioned awhile ago." David looked at him.

David left, he told us he is around now so we could call him for help whenever we want to.
We made breakfast together, it was fun. I gave him a new toothbrush and a unisex shirt I owned.

Alex's phone beeped, Mr. Paul called and told him to come down to the station as soon as possible he told him that his parents wanted to see him.
We got to the police station and we met Mr. Paul.

"Hello, Sir," Alex said to him.

"Are you guys fine? Mr. Paul asked us.

" we're fine." I smiled.

"Rose right? That's your name?" He asked.

"Yeah, Rose," I affirmed.

"Well, your sister's lawyer showed up yesterday and she'll be charged to court asap."

"Oh." I managed to say.

"Yeah, and we have concrete evidence on both cases. How cool is that? I'm sure she'll  be given a death sentence." Mr. Paul smiled.

"Yeah cool." I looked sad.

"And my parents?" Alex looked at him.

"Well, there's a new update regarding that. I had a rethink, I've been in this field for ten years now and I can tell you that most times torture doesn't work out on some suspects like your parents. So my team and I decided to plant an audio recorder and have them detained in the same cell. Smart right? Luckily for us this morning we got some evidence and updates from the audio recorder and guess what?" He smiled.

"What?" Alex and I chorused.

"They truly are who we think they are, in fact, they are not your biological parents. Listen to this." Mr. Paul played the recorder.
Alex and I listened attentively.

"I can't believe I'm here with you, you totally ruined everything. Your bad luck has brought us here again." I could hear Alex's father audibly.

"Me? Bad luck? You're the one with bad luck. I warned you didn't I? I warned you not to take any order or assignment until I'm back, but you naively refused, now see what we're into." She replied.

Mr. Kola paused the recorder and said: "Order? Assignment? Did you hear that? What do they mean by that? Let's hear further." He played the recorder.

"Lower your voice woman! They might hear you do not put me into any more trouble." Alex's father said quietly but the recorder was able to receive his voice.

"I was in jail when you did the assignment and you know that," she told him.

"But, during my visits, I explained it all to you and you were in support of it, now you want to have your back against me? You want me to suffer for all this alone?" He said to her.

"I suffered for the fraud alone, Mathew! I went to jail for years and where were you? You were free, enjoying freedom right?" She asked him.

"I thought that was a life-changing deal, that woman who hired us; I mean that woman that hired me, told me that there's a deal of five hundred thousand dollars if I could get the money from the house and also kill them. I went along with two of the boys but we couldn't find the money in the house. I explained all this to you, Josephine, I did."  Alex's father explained.

"If you did why are you telling me again." She hissed.

"I'm sorry Josephine, but you know I never stopped loving you. I've always wanted a better life for you, for us. When you introduced our type of job to me I couldn't decline, and that's because of how much I love you. See, I never wished to be like this, I wasn't brought up to be a murderer, but every life I took was for you and for us."  He said and I felt like crying.

"I'm sorry I put you through all this, I should have allowed you to go ahead with your fishery business back then. I'm sorry."  She said.

"We'll pull through OK, we'll fight this. We know nothing about it all and I have never met that woman. It's her words against mine." He said.

"And Alex?"  She asked.

"What about Alex? See, that boy is of no use to us right now. You should have allowed me to kill him when I had the chance to. He knows all about us now." He added.

"I couldn't have you waste that innocent boy, he has done nothing but loved us all his life. I don't regret sparing him that night, Matthew. He's the son I never had"

"Well, I was never there for him so he definitely hates me right now. I should have killed him that night and forget about the document that the orderer told us about."

"We couldn't make him sign the documents. Where did you keep it?" She asked.

"I kept it in your room, on the drawer." He replied.

"We'll get over this, with time." He assured her

"So that is all we got for now." Mr. Paul said.

"Oh," Alex said and laid his head on the desk.
